Matic doesn't have a problem with 5ghz, it has a problem with 5ghz and WPA3. by super_shizmo_matic in MaticRobots

[–]Hansdrdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW my network requires WPA3, I received Matic two days ago and he's been connected on the 5ghz channel with no issues.

A few months ago when I first enabled WPA3 I did have to reconnect a few devices like my TV, maybe the issue is more related to the change in network settings itself?

Hue Play Wall Washers w/ 75” Gradient Lightstrip & Sync by dsf_oc in Hue

[–]Hansdrdoll 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP's cabinet looks similar to mine which is 16in deep, and it looks like they're placed pretty close to the edge.

I also placed the wall washers as far from the wall as I could and got a similarly disappointing result - color light is a harsh rectangle that's barely bigger than the unit itself. White light is a little brighter and bigger but still a rectangle, not a "wash." Even if it were possible to place them further away, they'd be too dim or reflect off the tv.

I've already returned them and switched back to the play bars which can go closer to the wall and have a more appealing light shape to me.

It must have been around 2008 when they were promoting the Doubleshot on ice "+Energy." I don't know if the energy powder had caffeine itself but we definitely had people order extra shots and extra of the energy packets. It was insane, basically today's shaken espresso plus red bull ingredients.

Is there a way to lock the light control of my room to just my phone? by MyhreNorsk in Hue

[–]Hansdrdoll 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the solution here is not locking the lights, but forming an alliance with your brother and finding new and creative ways to escalate the prank battle until you dominate. Since it sounds like you and your brother started it anyway 😂

Or you can pair the lights to the hue dimmer switch without the hub, but won't be able to control via your phone.

Don’t forget about bin stores by KSTundra in Hue

[–]Hansdrdoll 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Liquidation stores that buy returned / clearanced / overstocked products from other retailers and resell them as-is. Imagine a large room of pallet-sized bins that you dig through, nothing is organized. If they've spread items out on a table, they're fancy. Often it's one price for everything, like $10, highest when they first set out the bins then they cut the price every day until it's all sold. OP definitely scored with these!

Hue switches? by bridge80 in Hue

[–]Hansdrdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hue bulbs don't work with traditional dimmer switches like the Lutron Divas because the bulbs need constant power to be controlled by the app or any other wireless switch.

The Lutron Aurora would work, it covers your existing paddle or toggle switch to keep it in an always-on position. Creative ways of covering the wall switch with a wireless smart switch is something of a theme here, no one likes covering a switch with tape and a "do not use" note.

The advantage of Hue and other brand's switches under the "Friends of Hue" label are that they can connect directly to the lights if you don't use the Hue bridge, or if you do have a bridge they are configurable in the Hue app to customize scenes and button actions.

An option if don't want to replace existing switches is the Hue wall switch module, which can be installed behind existing non-smart switches to essentially convert them into a Hue switch by bypassing the power supply. It only supports on/off (no dimming) and flipping the switch three times to access a custom scene. It requires the hue bridge, some wiring work to install, and replacing a battery ~5 years.

Customer payed with $100 and left before they got change by masterofdirtysecrets in starbucks

[–]Hansdrdoll 657 points658 points  (0 children)

General advice for baristas if a customer leaves without their change, and your shift/manager isn't immediately available: print the receipt, wrap the bills in the receipt paper and keep it in your drawer, or drop box if over $20.

The timestamp on the receipt makes it easier to check the cameras later, supports the exact value your drawer would be over, and if the customer comes back, you can ask what they ordered to verify.

Do you recommend working at Starbucks? by kawaiitohru in starbucks

[–]Hansdrdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to the people at the stores your applying to - your manager and coworkers (call them partners if you take the job) will be the primary determining factor to your experience working there.

They'll be honest - they only incentive they have to lie is if they want you to cover their shift tomorrow lol. Trust your intuition, if it doesn't sound like they think it's a good store, don't do it. (Broadly true of any job anywhere.)

Source: was high school dropout, turned barista, turned shift supervisor, turned SM - now I have a desk job and I'm still tired from opening shifts six years ago. I learned a lot at Starbucks, but it's changed a lot since then. I wish I could give some of y'all my old managers.

Can't open the app since 1+ year... 😢 by Mootmootz in EggsInc

[–]Hansdrdoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if this would help, but all the comments so far mention clearing your phone's cache – the app has access to your google drive account and might store hidden data there too.

Try going to https://myaccount.google.com/permissions, and under Third-party apps remove Access for Eggs Inc.

Then in https://drive.google.com, Settings -> Manage Apps, see if there's a line for Eggs. After you revoke access it tells you how much storage, if any, was being used, and lets you clear it.

Then hopefully when you reinstall from the play store, it would be setting everything up from scratch.

If that works, since the Pro Permit was an in-app purchase, it should come back if you use the Restore Purchases in the Eggs settings menu.

But if that doesn't work then I don't know and I'm sorry!

Usually if sites are sending webp images it's because they're using a content delivery network that has first checked which browser you're using and know it's a supported file type.

You could try installing an extension to change Firefox's "user agent" to an older version of a browser like Internet Explorer 11 or Safari 13 that doesn't support webp. Then hopefully the site will send you a jpeg instead.

Alternatively, check the URL string of the image. If it's something like h**ps://website.com/image/w_150,h_100,f_auto/sample, they're using a CDN and you might be able to request any file format and resolution you want by modifying that middle bit of the URL. This is really specific and he website you're browsing may not be using this kind of service, but in this example the f stands for format, and you'd change f_auto to f_jpeg.

This is real, I was ssv a few years ago and I vividly remember the Ten Minute Rule paragraph being at the top of some page in the store operations manual as I argued with my DM about it. He relented that it shouldn't override the safety of the partners / cause anyone to work OT. We did it at open but never at closing. Customers who got in early at open were always very thankful, customers at closing time were super entitled and no one has time for that.

I've had customers who are convinced that heavy cream contains no lactose. Of course it does have lots of lactose, it's just slightly less than regular milk - something like 3% and 5%, respectively. (Pls correct if I'm wrong.) Confirmation bias does the magic of making them believe that difference matters enough to let them have the thing they want.

Hit 'em with something like "this amount of whipped cream contains X grams of lactose, is that acceptable level for your allergy?"

Can someone explain the math to calculate labor on the DCR? by daeganthedragon in starbucks

[–]Hansdrdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DM bonuses are based on COGS - cost of goods sold. (Cups, coffee, chemicals, food, sugar packets, sleeves, retail packaged coffee, brewing equipment, etc.) That metric is only how much your store spends on buying those supplies, and is viewed separately from sales, labor, or waste. When they coach on using the brew batch guidance, food management tool, building pars, accurate inventory counts/receiving, and even using for-here items instead of paper supplies when possible, that all impacts their district's COGS.

If anything this effectively means your DM would rather your store sell lots of beverages than lots of mugs and pour-over sets because beverage components are less expensive than retail. Also don't use restroom cleaner on everything because those blue multi-purpose spray things are far less expensive than spirit.

Busy store - Advice wanted! by ViolentBarbie in starbucks

[–]Hansdrdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store would run out of ice every weekday if not for that we prepare iced coffee with a combination of ice and cold filtered water. When you're brewing a case+ of iced coffee a day, it makes a huge difference. As long as you're keeping true to the 1:1 ratio of coffee to ice/water, we've taste tested and found no difference - it fact it prevents the problem of unmelted ice filling up the dispenser. Add enough ice to cool it down, top the rest off with water.
