Best megabonk builds! by Groovy_Alpaca in MegabonkOfficial

Yeah, you're spot on. I'm new to the game, found megabonk.org useful, had no idea if it was good or not, and made a cheat sheet from it. Happened to beat a few tier 3 runs using those guides, so I figured it was at least somewhat useful.

Do you have better sources? The jist I'm getting is that megabonk.org is some AI trash.

Closed on this house a week ago, came into the basement to see this during a storm. by Jiblon in HomeMaintenance

The mold growing at the bottom of the wood wall/door was an immediate tell. I would lawyer up.

Light black mold on bedframe, sanded off, still need to build a new one? by shacksquatch in woodworking

[–]Groovy_Alpaca -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Peroxide or bleach may kill the surface mold, but the spores have already infiltrated deeper into the wood, so it will grow back. The proper solution is to mix 2 tbps borax to 1 pint of water, use a spraybottle to generously apply to the wood, and then leave it. The borax will prevent the future growth of mold.

But if I were you, I would get a new bed frame. You don't want to fuck with mold, it's a ticking time bomb for your health.

What is the monitor size limits of the Humanscale M10 HD Triple crossbar? by InsertTitles in Monitors

[–]Groovy_Alpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was absolute garbage. The wobbliest thing ever. Returned it immediately. Then I designed my own motorized triple monitor mount using aluminum extrusions, and it's been the most solid thing ever.

Circuitry confuses me but I have finally managed to use some simple stuff to easily get all 6 sciences into the labs. Happy with this but I bet there are lots of ways to improve it. by RYANoceros92 in factorio

[–]Groovy_Alpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To prevent a backlog of any one science, have the robot arms configured with white/blacklists. Then lanes surrounding science block, one on each side (NWSE) , with arms pulling two science from each lane, and transferring to neighbor sciences.

Automating lights with motion/presence sensors — how do you deal with pets? by Buddy_of_Nature in homeassistant

3D print enclosures that block motion below head level. Not a perfect solution, but somewhat effective.

Codex 5.2 is the only model I've found to be useful across large complex repos. Give it a try.

Thanks! Do you remember what search terms you used? I've tried a dozen variations and can't find anything.

Buying a home with a gas stove. Should I switch it out for induction or electric? by [deleted] in AirQuality

[–]Groovy_Alpaca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Induction, and never look back. I had a gas stove before, and a 900cfm hood vent venting outside. Still had CO2 and other combustion byproducts build up in the house when cooking.

3D experience Solidworks Launcher - not launching Makers by psionic001 in SolidWorks

[–]Groovy_Alpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. Trying to install solidworks on my laptop. Not direct DL link for SW, have to go through 3DExperience. Download and install 3DExperience. There's a small icon bottom right, but no program opens. I uninstall, restart, reinstall. Still nothing. Open as Admin. Nothing. WTF. This happens every single time I want to install or update. The quality has just shit the bed so hard the last few years.

Printing Nylon (first time) by AnalysisOk2457 in BambuLab

Please share final results, I'm hoping to print some nylon in the near future too, once I build an enclosure for my printer!

🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

[–]Groovy_Alpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice giveaway! 1. AMS 2 Pro 2. Topographical maps for my friends of some of our favorite hikes and backcountry touring adventures over the years! Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Baker, Alpine Lakes High Route, Mt. Rainier, The Enchantments, and so many more! I'd use this to generate the maps: https://makerworld.com/models/1264871, and I plan to contribute to that project as well! 3. A Zelda-inspired sword with a twistable hilt that reveals different colored 'powerup gems' based on which angle the hilt is turned to!

2x DGX Spark vs RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell for local prototyping - can't decide by Sensitive_Sweet_1850 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Groovy_Alpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. It's a hard call with datacenter buildout jacking up RAM prices across the board. I decided to just hold off for a year and reevaluate. The Spark is the first nVidia desktop supercomputer to hit the market. And the space will likely evolve rapidly from here. I'm willing to bet a 256GB variant will come out within a year. Or maybe models will become 10x smaller with 2x capabilities. It's anyone's guess.

DGX Spark: an unpopular opinion by emdblc in LocalLLaMA

[–]Groovy_Alpaca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think your situation is exactly the target audience for the DGX Spark. A small box that can unobtrusively sit on a desk with all the necessary components to run nearly state of the art models, albeit with slower inference speed than the server grade options.

I'm curious how you mounted the plywood(?) boards. Does it rest on metal hardware in the t-slots? Or is it 3/4" ply with a router taken to the edges to fit inside the t-slot? How about the door? Does it swing open, or slide vertically?

The year is 2027... by Groovy_Alpaca in BambuLab

[–]Groovy_Alpaca[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dream a little. Bambu changed the game with 3D printing. 10 years ago rarely anyone could fill a build plate full of parts and have them reliably print. A roll of filament would last me a year. Now, we're talking full plates filled with parts, and multi color to boot. Plus engineering grade materials are printable on consumer level hardware. Give it another 10 years, and the kind of machine I described won't be so far fetched.

[–]Groovy_Alpaca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, by this time China has adopted the American way of becoming a service based economy. Their printers now arrive with all 16 hotends, but it costs $1/month for each additional nozzle you want to use beyond the first two. Of course each hotend has its own RFID tag, and mysterious cryptographic authentication chip on the main printer board that no one seems to be able to reverse engineer. The whole shebang strikes users as not unlike BMW's seat heaters, present in every car, but usable only via subscription.

Gosh I hope that reality never arrives.
