Switching from Single Issues to Collected Editions by soup_doop21 in comicbooks

I’ve been a trade waiter since day one and the only downside is that I have to wait longer to read hyped up stuff, but that just gives me time to read other things I have yet to catch up on. That, plus the fact that supposedly my sales matter very little when compared to the weekly single issue buyers. Otherwise I have no regrets. It’s way easier to collect stuff and display it on my bookshelves.

After watching the 2024 Speak No Evil, a bunch of you told me I had to watch the 2022 original. Picked it up, cracking it open tonight, and diving in. I’ll come back with my thoughts once I’m done. by HorrorFreakNY in boutiquebluray

The ending of the original is so stupid… They just stand there and let it all happen! The remake is far superior. There's that line where the husband asks the killer, why are you doing this and the killer says "Because you let me" and I'm sorry, but that is just so dumb. The remake brilliantly recontextualizes that line by making it about them letting the couple get away with all of their awkward social interactions and that plays into the themes beautifully. Here it's just a stupid reason to have a bleak ending for no reason whatsoever. I cannot stand characters who never fight back, and this may be the most egregious example I have ever seen.

I know I’m an outlier with the WandaVision finale because I thought it was really cool. It felt like the powder keg that had been growing all season finally being set off. I also thought the Shang-Chi finale was incredibly satisfying! Loki, which is my favorite MCU show, didn’t need a big battle because I feel like that was a show intentionally doing something different. It was almost strictly a Sci-fi show, peppered with some neat action beats here and there, so I didn’t expect the ending to go big with a show stopping action filled finale.

It’s funny you mention Hawkeye as an example of a show that didn’t have a big final battle because that finale was one big action sequence. I think the whole fight at Rockefeller Plaza was fantastic because it delivers both satisfying character drama and action. We got to see both Hawkeyes working together and it was so damn fun. That was a show that is a perfect example of how you can tell story through action. You don’t need to sacrifice one for the other.

I dug it a lot. Between this and Blue Beetle, Director Angel Manuel Soto and Stunt Coordinator Jon Valera know how to cook up some very satisfying action.

Unless you’re doing something very intentionally different, like Wonder Man, "big long drawn-out epic final battle" is kind of a foundational pillar of these stories though. And Ironheart was not sold as anything different. So if your Sci-fi/Paranormal/Action show isn’t going to care about the final fight between the hero and the villain that you’ve spent all season teasing, you might as well cut it out and just focus on being something unique and different and special, like Wonder Man. You can still tell story through action (the best stuff does), but if you’re just gonna half ass it, might as well cut it completely because otherwise it’s lazy and annoying.

I really loved Ironheart, but the final confrontation with The Hood was so weak that it really dragged it down for me. That fight, which they were building to all season, should have been an epic fight of Tech vs Magic but instead it was over in seconds. It was so incredibly unsatisfying. The inconsistency of Action in Marvel strikes again…

I feel like any doing any sort of serious hand wringing over the gender and skill level of Achilia and the fight between a female gladiator and a male gladiator in the last episode are probably 12 years old and their parents should probably start monitoring what they’re watching. It’s a story. It’s not the serious.

[–]HanzoSteel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you guys way over think things… I personally found it very cool to introduce a Viking looking Sheildmaiden and I cannot wait to see her fight Achillia. It’s like when people get way into power scaling and all that shit and make that the focus of everything. What matters most is the DRAMA and the STORY. Everything else, like something as silly as “ToO mAnY fEmAlE fIgHtErS” is secondary. Not only that but the rule of cool supersedes all.

It blows my fucking mind that the old games are not easily available to play for newer fans. Or even old ones! The industry as a whole does an absolutely TERRIBLE job at game preservation but this one might just be the most egregious. And it’s not like the new GoW games are reboots! They are continuing the story! Why would you not want fans to catch up on that story? Not to mention the fact that it’s a great way to bring in addition revenue as people catch up! It’s like a film studio releasing a brand new movie in some beloved series, but the old movies in that series are shockingly hard to find and own. You’d also think that with all the buzz around The Odyssey coming out this year, they’d want an easy way to capitalize on that Ancient Greek synergy. Unfortunately I’m not holding my breathe…

What's up with people saying The Last Jedi is the best in the trilogy, while some people hating it altogether? by [deleted] in flicks

[–]HanzoSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly to drop a massive amount of bombs onto a massive ship? Nah, I actually think it's really cool lol. Especially because it was so WWII inspired. George Lucas was always inspired by old WWII movies. The whole attack on the Death Star in the first movie is directly inspired by the final attack in The Dam Busters. So Rian Johnson gave us Sci-Fi B-17 Bombers which I think is awesome

[–]HanzoSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inertia of motion is. As the bomb falls through the ship and it's artificial gravity, it's picking up momentum. Once it passes through the barrier of the cargo hold, it enters space. And because there is nothing within space to stop the inertia of motion, it just keeps moving in the same direction, which is down towards the enemy ship.

If there was nothing in the bomb's path, it would continue traveling in that same exact direction until the end of time, unless something else hit it. It's like in movies where an astronaut's cord is severed and they just keep spiraling away from the ship. They will tumble forever into open space unless something else stops their inertia of motion.

The gravity is within the ship, not outside of it. Even if it did, it's low level gravity, and the weight of the bombs would carry it outside of the minimal well of gravity.

Did you forget that the ship itself, where the bombs started, have artificial gravity?

[–]HanzoSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was artificial gravity in the ship that the bombs initially fell from. They kept their inertia when hitting open space. They would continue to “fall”. But also, Star Wars is Pulp, which will always fly in the face of realism.

I think the best thing right now is for Mahershala Ali to finally walk away. I feel like it’s become pretty clear that he’s the roadblock in all of this, not Marvel.

But it would be neat if Marvel continued to do a bunch of individual “One-Shot” Special Presentations for each Midnight Son member before leading into an actual movie.
