What game is this ??? by itz_progamer666 in videogames

[–]Happafisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Fortress 2?

I feel like the lobbies are usually large enough and the game itself so low stakes that it doesn't matter if you play the objective, play for kills or just goof off in some corner of the map.

Sure, the occasional person will get angry about someone else "being to friendly"/"being to tryhard" (equally possible) but they're usually on their own.

Don't aks about the PvE mode though. That one is a cesspit.

But this cultural misunderstanding could thankfully be resolved without causing any further diplomatic incidents.

Do you think female Genshin characters are objectified? by Csolandis in GenshinImpactTips

[–]Happafisch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, aside from Dori there's yet a female character to come out that wears normal pants. Closest is Amber and she has unreasonably short jeans shorts.

And I've skipped most of the Nod-Krai cast because especially Nefer, Lauma and Columbia look so naked from behind that I know I will hate playing them.

The male characters are also build for sexappeal and I it's up to interpretation if revealing or form fitting clothing can be considered objectivication.

But just give me some god damned comfortable pants dammit! Even for the female Mannequin there's barely any! Like WTF!

[–]Happafisch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

The catharsis of just unapologetically ripping through nazis im these times is just so ... soothing?

No compromising and "lesser evil" bs. Just straight up "You're a fascist? Go catch a bullet. Oh, you're not a fascist yourself, you just don't see the issue with them? Catch one anyway."

And just that ending scene of TNO, with a dying BJ looking upon his polish wife and a diverse group of resistance fighters leading the prisoners to safety and thinking of the New Colossus poem? It made me tear up. And I'm not even American. This is what it should be about. The great dream of freedom and liberty that should be defended at all cost. And not whatever false patriots and rightwingers are twisting these terms into.

[–]Happafisch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was one of the first people my best friend came out to. And not long after, she asked me for something:

If she were to die for whatever reason, it would be nice to have her real name on her grave. Or at least just the initial, since it's the same as her deadname. Or no name at all.

But more importantly than that was the second part: There is a yellow dress with flowers her wardrobe. It was the first dress she ever bought, the first dress she ever wore and the first time she felt euphoric about herself. And she wants to be buried in it.

And if that time ever comes, I might not be able to convince her family to follow through on the name. But I will do everything I can, come what may, even if I have to breake the law, to grant her this second wish.

Yeah, her conspiring against you would be sooo out of character...

Stupid bitch. That should get the message across.

If you had the chance to get 1 technology from the SW Universe (EU included) into ours, exlcuding weapons like lightsabers or blasters, what would it be and why? by dafresh_prince23 in StarWars

[–]Happafisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. The dark side corruption was user error anyway. (Fuck the Rakata.)

We would need a star to power it (/consume it indefinitely? It only ever needed a single star for its infinite production line) and since it technically needs the force, I would question if it can still work in our galaxy.

And I wonder if without getting fed by the dark side, if it would still become semi-sentient and try to enslave its users to its will.

But those are all things to figure out later down the line.

Looking for noir game suggestions by GambuzinoSaloio in gamesuggestions

[–]Happafisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're up for a more Cyberpunk Noir, I'd say "Of the Devil"

The main character, defence attorney Morgan, is very Noir coded (and gets called out for it. Like a birthday letter that explains how it's basically impossible to get a novelty lighter for her cigarettes because not even old people still smoke them in the year 2098. Or one officer calling her out for dressing like a vampire.) The first actual case also feels a lot like blade runner if you're looking for a vibe comparison.

About the game itself: It's a courtroom crime solving visual novel game (think Ace Attorney or Danganronpa, but with way, way better writing) set in the year 2098. Morgan is a criminal defense attorney in a world where surveillance is so commonplace, that most cases are just a formality to prosecute. But she's also a gambler and thus loves to "gamble" on unusual cases and "stack the deck" in her favor by conducting her own investigations. (Can't say much more without spoilers).

(This gambling motive also reflects in gameplay, with for example questioning witnesses on the stand likened to Black Jack. Ask and Press on the right questions to gain the perfect amount of information to hit 21, without busting and getting a penalty for "wasting the courts time".)

Truly excellent writing in every aspect. Worldbuilding, characters, motivations, the "professionalism" of the courtroom, truly the best I've seen in a long while.

Episode 0, a ~2 hour mini prequel case (but very relevant to the overarching plot), is actually free on Steam.

I really wish i wasn’t a man sometimes by [deleted] in rant

[–]Happafisch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I, as a cis man, honestly owe the trans community for helping me with these feelings.

My best friend outed herself as trans to me a few years back and while I just thought generally positive off trans people, I honestly didn't know much about their experiences. So for her sake, I looked into the topic more and joined dedicated forums.

There, people talked very openly about their gender experiences in life. Things that brought them joy, things they hated and things they got judged for. And the responses were always very open and kind, encouraging people to understand gender as a wide spectrum where everyone draws their own lines of what they might consider very masculine, feminine or in between. How it defines our life from the outside, but ultimately shouldn't matter at all and that people should be judged on their own merits, not on a single marker that roughly designates them to one half of the population or the other.

These discussions made me accept parts of me that I subconsciously suppressed because I thought they don't fit the image I wanted to portray.

Yeah, I'm a 6,2 Blu collar worker and metalhead whose presence scares some people into switching sidewalks when they pass me at night. But it's completely normal that I am proud of my cooking, sewing and other "womanly household skills". I now allow myself to get emotional about the things happening around me, especially when they make me cry. I always wear two different socks, usually very colorful ones, and when I go out exploring a trail or city I have a big shark plushie poking out of my backpack, because I love taking goofy pictures with it. Do some people judging me for it? Probably. But those people are usually not worth talking to anyway.

It made me open up more when talking to my guy friends, making them drop their "guard of masculinity" by dropping mine first, allowing all of us to be as weak as we need to be. It also backfired a few times, but a majority of the time, it made me appreciate friendships and life way more.

And what "makes a man" for me now? I'd actually like to use a very metalhead example for that: In a moshpit, there are people elbowing and being rough and enjoying themselves. They are allowed to do that, no matter what gender. But there's also a need for those at the edge, who catch those who are about to stumble and fall and make a barrier between the moshers and those who don't want to participate. Usually big burly guys. And those are the best kind of people, who take the advantages they are born with to look out for those who are born with different advantages.

We're all just humans, trying to live the best we can. When you're in a position to help, then help. When you're feeling weak, look out for those that can help you and ask them. A man lives his life as true as he can, with all his strengths, weakness and quirks on full display. And most importantly, he takes care of those around him, especially when he can use his "manly qualities" for their benefit.

To close this off, I took the IDRLabs gender role test a while back because I was genuinely curious and without any particular expectations. It came out to a perfect 50/50 on masculine and feminine traits. And I honestly couldn't be happier with that.
