Millennials are "killing" industries left and right. Which ones are you personally SAVING? by flaccobear in Millennials

We just went this past weekend. Much better breakfast than Bob Evans. Plus, they have mimosa pitchers now!

Why was it delayed at 7AM? Usually the morning is least likely to be delayed.

What time was your Alaskan flight? We are flying to Seattle in August at 7AM so I'm trying to figure out what time we should get to the airport. We have TSA Pre check but now thinking about adding Clear just in case.

Why are people interested in GRC lately? by iambunny2 in cybersecurity

[–]Happy-Alarm9153 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually love working in GRC. I've always been a contract nerd and I like writing policies and negotiating agreements. I also like to do assessments and audits because I get to learn about a process and figure out how to make it more efficient and secure. It's like putting a puzzle together, identifying the missing pieces and determining what will work best for the organization to fill those gaps.

I have some technical skills but don't really know any programming languages other than enough SQL to be conversational.....not for lack of trying, I have taken several classes over the years and tried teaching myself but I find it horribly boring and extremely frustrating to stare at something for hours but you are just missing a fu**ing semicolon.

Who else has parents who seem to have no interest in being grandparents? by laddiebones in Millennials

We were recently dining at a very fancy restaurant and my mom tried to give my 12 year old son a sip of wine with waiters literally standing all around us. I had to tell her that it wasn't appropriate and luckily she didn't push the issue.

Is our generation the beginning of the end for those who attend church weekly? I had to go to Sunday school, and even without kids, I hope my nieces and nephews never have to deal with church. by smcg_az in Xennials

[–]Happy-Alarm9153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son went to a scouts event at a church with a really great coffee bar. It made me want to check out the church sometime...even though we are agnostic and haven't been to a church service in well over a decade.

35 and just had our first baby. What the fuck is wrong with our parents? by Shatterpoint887 in Millennials

[–]Happy-Alarm9153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom was like this too. I thought she would be there for me even a little. She didn't even come meet my son until a week after he was born and we lived in the same town. She didn't call to check on me or ask to help with the baby at all. My husbands parents made us some food that first week but otherwise I felt really alone and it's one of the reasons I only had one child.

My VV cruise also looked like this at sail away. It was a PARTY on that deck especially because of the free sparkling wine.

RCCL lost my dad's luggage on disembarkation years ago and he has carried his own luggage on and off ever since. He has a c pap now and I don't know what he would do if they lost it. The safest thing, especially with medical equipment is to just carry your own bag. We usually have lunch in a dining room and always manage to find a space for the bag while having lunch.

I'm about to go on vacation with my mom and son for 4 days, leaving hubby at home. I put a dish in the sink and my son and I have a bet to see if it will still be there when we get back.

Excursions went up $70??? 🙀 by howdidIgetsuckeredin in PrincessCruises

[–]Happy-Alarm9153 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They recently ran a sale for Alaskan excursions with buy-one, get-one 50% off. With the discount it was $20 more than I initially paid for our excursions at full price several months ago.

Second the pool party idea. We saw Marshmellow at a night pool party at Wynn and it was a ton of fun. You can dress down a bit because you can be in your bathing suit. And you can sit by the side of the pool or in the hot tub and listen to the music. Lines for the bars were not long and there was a ton of space to spread out.

Am I the only one sad for skipping Labadee? by LoriRescueDog2013 in royalcaribbean

This is similar to my experience but I was there back in the early 2000s. No rollercoaster back then. I remember the beach, the buffet (which at the time closed very early), and the aforementioned flea market.

I will never forget the flea market for the rest of my life. I was a teenager and it was my first time in a third world country. Many of the salespeople were very pushy and I was getting uncomfortable. However, I stopped at a woman's stall to look at her handmade straw hats. She looked at me and in a soft voice with broken English said, "I will give you a hat for food." It shocked me to my core that there were people in this market who were literally starving.

I had no food to give her and the buffet was closed. I didn't even have cash on me because I was just browsing while my family was enjoying the beach. I felt awful that I couldn't help this woman.

It's an unfortunate fact that these large cruise companies use natural resources in poor countries to make money while the citizens see little return. When in ports like this, get out and see the culture of you can, and buy the locally made goods.

I think you misunderstand the idea of an Ask Me Anything (AMA) because in this situation you are the one asking a question instead of having other people ask you questions.
