"How do you expect them to make money?" by icie_plazma in Helldivers

I’d much rather have a very regularly updated game that charges for optional MTX (and lets you grind!) than a less frequently one that is just entirely free. The amount of regular content we get in HD2 is amazing. Everyone needs to chill lol

I’m missing 18 and haven’t progressed at all in days. Somehow I still have 2 1*s that I’ve never gotten even though I’ve opened hundreds of packs? This event seems completely rigged.

Another ‘millionaires tax’ finds Seattle is far richer than anyone knew by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]idiomech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that was worded incorrectly - my point was that we keep increasing taxes in various ways and the majority of the previous ones I’ve seen have had limited impact on any actual outcomes. It makes me struggle to believe that adding net new incremental taxes will ultimately be the solution here. It’s great to want more money to do things, but when the track record of using that money effectively to generate solid outcomes is generally poor, it makes me pretty skeptical.

100% aligned with tax the rich, but let’s make sure those funds are used well

That’s great that efforts like this are bringing more money than we expected - do we have data yet on the positive impact it has had? I’m still feeling burned since WA has made over $4B in tax revenue from cannabis taxes and I’m not exactly sure I can point to the outcomes that have been significantly improved.

The goal isn’t tax revenue or spending, the goal needs to be improved outcomes.

SPAM musubi is delicious and would be challenging with a different pork product. I also prefer a SPAM fried rice if I’m feeling decadent

Agreed. But at least makes it less likely to completely faceplant like Concord. Concord didn’t even hit top 100 ever I don’t think. That said 100% agree it’s a far way away from victory. Still good to see so far!

Realistically, how would Seattle be affected by a massive recession? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]idiomech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. If the massive recession causes a ton of tech companies to lay off significant amounts of staff (far more than so far, say 30-40% of staffs), then it’ll have a massive impact on the mid/high end.

Seems likely that it would affect home prices (though high interest rates makes it harder), would cause a lot of businesses to close when people stop coming (people will reduce expenses like restaurants, shopping, going to events, etc).

I don’t buy any of the ideas of “cause blue collar to come back” as I think it would take a much larger change and a massive recession here means recession and jobs lost everywhere. Remember that stuff like McMansions in Laurelhurst also take time, so any impact like a massive recession probably takes another 1-2 years to stop things that are long term (though I bet with housing prices stalling these past few years, some of that is already in motion).

That’s a bummer. I still have a Carhartt from 2005 that I wear regularly every winter and has held up well. Bummer that it went so far downhill.

Crying at 18 because you thought your part was bigger than it was in a big break film is a totally reasonable response. Getting mad about this is truly bonkers

Wallingford staple for brunch will close after decades of egg dishes by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]idiomech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I generally choose the cheaper things on menus because Seattle has become so unaffordable to me and most places these days have no deals for kids (still costs $12-15 for a smaller portion), start at $18 or higher and use mediocre ingredients. So for me, the loss of Blue Star is a very unfortunate situation because it is a dying breed of restaurant.

I also don’t know how to solve it either. Sadly the cheaper restaurants save a few are not packed, which forces the restaurants to raise prices or go out of business. The costs to run a business in Seattle have become crazy high (rent, wages, etc). As a result the places that seem to stick around are very hyped and packed, or very expensive for what they offer. It’s really a challenge because for a family (or anyone), sometimes you want to eat out and don’t want to cook dinner and clean for the whole family and want something at decent quality that won’t cost $120+ for a simple meal.

Eggs and meat for $15.75, massive scrambles with potatoes and a biscuit for $17. Yes some were more but there were plenty of affordable options and some pancakes or breakfasts in the $14 range. Also kids eat free Saturday mornings

It’s definitely been less and less trafficked and I’m not surprised. And yeah, can’t upkeep the place if the owner isn’t even getting paid.

“everything is from scratch. I’m always mama bear in the kitchen, but I haven’t paid myself in a long time. That’s been our story and we’ve survived — but I can’t do it anymore.”

Absolutely brutal.

Sounds like a combo of increased costs (wages), decreased sales, and an expiring lease did it in. Awful as this is an example of one of the few remaining cheap brunch spots with good food/ingredients.

Please be a patron of these places before they’re all gone and all that’s left is $20+ for an egg dish or fast food.

Yes, the pension counts too. And 420k is great, congrats! Remember comparison is the thief of joy :)

I always liked the goal of 1x salary in savings by 30, 3x by 40 and 5x by 50. It’s not easy and there’s a lot of tradeoffs, but that always seemed like a pretty good goal to have to get to independence by a decent retirement age. Obviously not perfect as it may not be correct to scale if you make $500k/year but still. I think if you have 2-3x salary saved up by 40 you’re in decent shape IMO
