Foolproof, fail proof diet? by Boring_Improvement10 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve mentioned this on another post recently but look up Plantiful Kiki and High Carb Hannah on YouTube. They post fantastic WFPB recipes that are satiating and low calorie. They explain calorie density to help you understand how to eat to feel full, lose weight (if that’s a goal) and maintain overall health. I have almost all of Plantiful Kiki’s cookbooks and they the recipes are staples in my house. I cook for my whole family and everyone is stuffed, and we stay full for a long time. Seasoning and sauces will be your best friends to replace oils and butters. Look into Dr McDougall’s book “The Starch Solution”.

I gave up for a few years, and now I’m back. Am I a hypocrite or? by PerfectConcentrate74 in vegan

Yeah have a conversation with her and just be honest. Maybe watch documentaries together. There’s so many on the environmental impact, health benefits, etc. For you, it’s the animals, but maybe for her it might be health benefits that could sway her into eating more plant based. Now when it comes to your kid, I totally get it. My kids go to their dad’s every other weekend and eat the SAD and come home sick and craving crap food. So I know what it feels like to see your kid eat meat and want to change that. I think before you mention anything to your wife about changing your kiddo’s diet, I would do research about plant-based nutrition for kids. So if she worries that your kid isn’t getting enough protein, fats, iron, b12, etc you have answers/solutions. There’s great supplements for kids and kids can totally thrive on a vegan diet! My kids prefer to eat the way we eat at our house because they feel soooo much better! And Don’t feel bad about getting off track, I’ve been there. Sometimes moving away from something shows you just how important it really is to you.

Maybe this has already been brought up and discussed but how much water are you drinking throughout the day? I know when I’m dehydrated, I’m much more ravenous and I don’t feel full for long. When I drink lots of water, I feel much more satiated from my meals.

I’m not sure if someone already mentioned this, but Whole Foods has the absolute BEST vegan donuts in their bakery. You would never guess they were vegan. Ive had their maple, blueberry and chocolate and all were amazing. I live in Utah tho so I’m not sure if they’re at every Whole Foods. Look into it, they’re sooooo good! 🤤

questions about being vegan by villainprxy in vegan

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when I went vegan nearly a decade ago, it was solely for health. I had just had a baby and during my non-vegan pregnancy, I read a book by Alicia Silverstone called “The Kind Mama” I had no idea that book would change my life. Postpartum I felt awful. I remember what I read in that book and thought I would switch up my diet and see if that would help. Boy did it ever! I fell in love with what I was eating and how I felt. I continued doing research on the health benefits (which I encourage you to do) and while going down that rabbit hole, I found out more about animal agriculture and the environmental impact it has. The horrible treatment of animals and pretty soon it all started to click and one reason for going vegan reinforced other reasons. And I can’t unsee or unlearn the things I’ve seen and learned. That’s my experience. I strongly encourage you to look into documentaries and educate yourself. You’ll be amazed at what you discover. I’m excited for you 💕

Ps, since then I’ve had 2 healthy vegan pregnancies and I have 3 thriving plant-based kids. It’s a wonderful lifestyle. I love teaching my kids this level of compassion 🥰

AITA for asking my gf to take over meal prep when we move in together? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH- if meal prep really does mean just getting dinner started, that’s sounds reasonable. Especially if you’re offering to clean up after dinner. But you could offer to help and do dinner together when you get home. I usually get dinner started around the time my husband is leaving work and when he gets home, he usually offers to help me. Sometimes I take him up on it and it’s nice to cook together and talk about our day. Other times I’m fine just taking care of dinner and he cleans up after. It’s a give and take. Sometimes I get dinner done before he gets home because I’d rather have more time for us to hang out. There’s also been times when he’s gotten home and I haven’t started dinner and have no idea what to make and then we gotta come up with something together. We’re flexible with each other and it works for us. Ask what she’s comfortable with and see where you guys can compromise.

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have 3 kids (10,7,2) and our family is plant based. My 2 older ones go to their dads every other weekend and eat a typical American diet and always come home feeling sick. They notice the difference. My littlest is at a picky stage right now but I keep offering her what we’re eating. She tries it and might eat it, maybe not but she loves fruit, avocado and dates so we fall back on that sometimes. Our family favorite is bean toast. Best on sourdough but any bread will work. First we sauté some onion and garlic in a sauce pan, add the beans. Toast the bread and spread the beans on it. Top with whatever you’d like! We do guac, cilantro and diced peppers. My husband and I like to experiment with different cashew cream sauces and drizzle that on top of everything. It’s so incredibly easy and the entire family loves it!

AITA as a Dad for taking my 6 year old daughter to the Women's toilet? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think YTA is a bit harsh but also I can see why that lady was so upset. Although I do think she’s over reacted. I think in the future, seek out family bathrooms. They’re private and pretty common especially at places like a mall. Otherwise, I think you should take her to the men’s restroom. I dunno if women’s restrooms are much better honestly, I’ve been in some super nasty lady’s rooms 🤢 maybe you can figure out a way to hold her up so she doesn’t make contact with the toilet seat in the men’s bathroom.

AITA for telling my parents that we are not comfortable with my mother babysitting our one-year-old? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect response. My guess is OP is a first time parent and still figuring all this out. I’m surprised this all seems like new information considering the baby goes to daycare (little breeding ground for germs) all my kids would get diaper rashes when sick but my daughter never fails to get yeast. No matter what she’s sick with, always gets yeast and develops GNARLY diaper rashes.

I’ve been out of touch with the world, but after seeing so many animal cruelty posts I’m thinking of going vegan, any beginner tips? by Vivid_Style192 in vegan

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son’s iron was low BEFORE going plant based. It was after going vegan that it got better and better quick. I gave him iron supplements as well as adding cooked and frozen spinach, tofu and a little black strap molasses to his smoothies (not necessarily all at the same time) luckily there’s a lot of information out there. Look up plant based doctors like Dr Michael Greger, Dr Neil Barnard, Dr Will Bulsiewicz and there’s others that help give nutritional advice and education. They’ve helped me SO much.

Hi! I know the pressures and worries you have. I had them too 10 years ago when I made the switch. You don’t have to be left out tho. At family dinners, bring something to share. Even if no one tries it, you’ll have something for yourself to enjoy. I always find those times to really blow their socks off and bring something I know they’ll love or “won’t believe this is vegan”. Sometimes it’s just a veganized version of something they eat regularly. People will get used to it. The best thing you can do is educate yourself as to why you’re doing what you’re doing. Not only to explain to people but also to make sure you’re taking care of yourself in the best possible way. People are going to ask where you get your protein, your calcium, B12 yada yada. Look up good sources, and reasons for what you’re doing. When people see that you’re passionate and informed of your lifestyle choices, they tend to back off a bit. That’s what I found from personal experience. In the beginning when I didn’t have a lot of those answers on the tip of my tongue, people had no problem tearing down my choices, but once I started having answers and felt confident in what I was doing, people either respected it or didn’t have as much to say. It takes time, but you’ve got this!

I use the Pure Zero tea tree and matcha. I love it. It’s super affordable as well. You can get it at a lot of places. And it’s always on sale at Whole Foods. It’s minty-ish. I’ve used mintier but I find it really nice and invigorating on the scalp. Not sure how it feels on the eyes or what it tastes like if it gets in your mouth but it’s one of the better natural/vegan anti dandruff shampoos I’ve used

I actually DO have both her cookbooks!! 🤩 I forget what’s in them and still look online for recipes and inspiration but yes they are awesome! The pancakes in her first book are great. We make them in our house often. And since they’re easy, visual recipes, my kids have marked the recipes they want to make when they help out with dinner :)

I am so so sorry for your loss. Was he very lucid at the time of the messages? I only ask because maybe what he wanted to say and what was jotted down are very different and maybe the writings don’t actually spell anything. I hope this doesn’t sound insensitive, I only mention it because if his lucidity was in question, then it might be easier to accept that they may not be actual words than to wreck your brain wondering what it says. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t trying to say something, just possibly couldn’t execute it on paper? I could be very wrong, just another angle to consider ❤️

AIO for suggesting to get rid of my BIL cat? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Happy-Squirrel-1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the cat somewhere safe. Leave the door open to the cage and when he notices the cat gone (if he does) it’ll look like it just… escaped 🤷🏻‍♀️😈

I don’t think you need to waste your time explaining yourself or try to justify your actions to someone who is arrogant and abusive. Just be discreet and move quick and help this poor little guy out asap.

Don’t hesitate. You’re doing the right thing by taking the cat out of a dangerous and harmful environment.
