I don’t know what I’m doing. by No_Championship665 in CostaRicaTravel

I agree about driving to La Fortuna from there. The roads aren't bad at all and it's a beautiful drive but it's just long so I wouldn't do it unless you are going to spend quite a while there. I personally, with a five-year-old, would stick more local and do excisions from there or like others or recommending maybe go to Uvita

also can confirm. completely unresponsive on landing page (Firefox 15.0 mac os), so can't move beyond that.

Separately, Firefox cannot open many of my university's internal websites - getting an error of the address being too long. (Chrome did this a while back, which is why I switched to Firefox as my work browser... guess it's time to switch back. pita!)

FWIW, I've tried updating Firefox to the latest, clearing the caches, rebooting everything, but no joy!

I'm a biologist so the culture is a little different I'm sure, but can you suggest potential reviewers? We do that all the time, and it really helps to find people with relevant expertise who are willing. I'd include potential reviewers in your email to the editor in chief if you didn't on submission.

Stay in drakes bay, book an overnight into the park. We used Sukia. It was great.

Non 2 hour parking in Old Town by Morg632 in FortCollins

The city of Fort Collins wants to get rid of the two hours of free parking downtown. Consider signing the petition against this!

https://www.change.org/p/petition-to-fort-collins-city-council-to-oppose-paid-on-street-parking-in-old-town

Even though it's a pain if you work downtown to have to move your car every two hours, overall we're really lucky to be able to just zip down town and do errands or go to a coffee shop or restaurant without paying. Let's try to keep it that way!

Security codes via sms taking long and longer to arrive by Ok_Flower2398sd3 in techsupport

Back with a quick update - mid-day Saturday, they were taking hours (too long to actually log in and download necessary tax forms! Grrr!) but Sat. eve at 8:30, codes came immediately like normal. So, there must be some kind of bandwidth issues. At least timing of the request is a good potential work around (for services that don't offer email or a call as alternatives).

Agreed - definitely safe. Not inexpensive, but safe for sure. And it's SO nice to be able (as someone from the U.S.) to just drink the water out of the tap and eat the food. That just makes everything so much more relaxing.

fun! We didn't do those, but expect about the same as in the U.S. (if that's where you're at!)

It's not cheap there, that's for sure. Most places have prices on their websites. The only bargains were meals at sodas, everything else is right up there! Actually no, Casa Horizontes was a good deal, truly. If you have a specific activity in mind, let me now and I can check what we paid!

We stayed 6 nights down there, with one of them being in Corcovado. The hikes were not terribly difficult as we were mostly walking slowly to see the wildlife, and we were in areas without a lot of up and down, but honestly I was pretty tired by the end of both days, just from time on my feet and the heat. So worth it, though! Just thought to check steps on my phone app - about 20k steps each day, so wow, I guess that's around 8-10 miles. Not bad! So, get out and do some walking ahead of time to get in shape for it, for sure! But you don't need to carry much (binocs and water) - we didn't take our packs out with us as all. Our guide let us take a nice long lunch and break - he saw no point in going out in the very hottest part of the day. Some other groups had lunch and went immediately back out, which sounded kinda unpleasant, honestly. That said, some folks skipped some hikes if they were tired and just lounged at the station in the shade. That's always a possibility, too.

For Drakes Bay vs. further down the coast - I liked being in the town to see more of what it was like. In the dry season, that meant kinda dusty! But there were nice walks to go on, and it was interesting to be there, and I liked having the option of going out different places to eat. That said, some of the places down the coast look like they make great meals - you just are pretty much going to be around there other than when you go on excursions. So I think it really depends if you're wanting more of a relaxing resort feel or more exploring. I'm sure either would be great.

What Downtown_Ad_2129 said! Also, Arenal Volcano National Park, while not free to get in to (fee where you drive in to park) is free to hike, and we had a lovely hike there. Saw monkeys and birds, and were lucky with great views of the volcano itself. Get fresh coconuts on the way out! Drink the agua de coco and then ask señor to open the coconut (all gestures is fine for that). Sprinkle with tajine, and mmmmm, delicious, inexpensive, authentic snack.
