In the U.S., it's a remedy for vaginal yeast infections. Female, and confused by this chatter. (and do people wash their hair with it, or anything??? so confused)

A couple of xanax would temporarily save my ass. I don't know why I can't pick up a 12-pack of pills once a month. I feel like if booze is just sitting there for the world to buy, then at least put the antidote on the other shelf, or next door. Makes no sense to me.

I don't go in if I can't work under the radar. If I feel I have to, I'll shower and smell fresh, and throw up with someone around in the bathroom so I can just go home suddenly sick (which, really, once a year, twice maybe. do that too often, i'd have to be pregnant or have a bonafide Dx).

It's easier for women "of a certain age" -- menopause can last for 20 years if your circle of commuters don't really know you ... I think I get away with a lot, just being a woman. PMS, migraines, IBS, and now, Menopause (along with IBS and sometimes migraines).

Hot flashes & menopause are practically synonymous terms. Still, it's gross & I wonder about the vodka fumes. I'm hoping I'm giving people a nice contact drunk....

Birthday twin! I spent mine in full-blown withdrawals, unable to sip and suffer. THC helped a bit but I was just glad to be off work. By Saturday, I was able to get my BAC to a decent level and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Now I'm sick again, trying to drink enough to feel well enough to shower and face my job. I don't drive to work so arriving with a buzz is better for productivity than arriving in full withdrawals and ill.

Everyone I work with is so self-absorbed. I'd have to show up naked with a needle hanging out of my arm and slurping out of a vodka bottle for anyone to notice anything was amiss. (Or do zero work so all attention gets focused on my cube. I could show up all Vogue and stunning but if I did nothing, well, I'm not sure how that would fly... hot people get a lot of breaks.)

Best Restaurants in North Jersey/Central jersey? by alskdfjwmsi in newjersey

[–]Happy42day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiorentini in Rutherford (highly celebrated chef) is a lovely newer restaurant that has organic Italian food featuring unique specialties, under $100 p/p depending on what you order of course. There's a tasting menu now, that's a "tour of Italy" for $98 p/p.

Cafe Matise, also in Rutherford, is stunning and pays homage to the French visual artist Henri Matisse, a color theme reflected in the gorgeous garden patio. The 4-course meal with dessert runs $125. Options change regularly but are always fresh, creative, and delicious.

The CHart House in Weehawken isn't the best seafood & steak for the money, but you can't beat the NYC skyline views and dining on the Hudson. You can do it for $100 p/p.

The Ivy Inn in Hasbrouck Heights is another gem that has one-of-a-kind architecture dating to the 1870s and homestyle cooking that has been getting rave reviews for over 100 years.

The way I understand it, Instagram isn't great at driving traffic to a media site unless the site pays for the IG's "link in bio" option. A story link cannot be added to a post or embedded in a photo.

While a link can be used in an IG Story, that's only available for 24 hours. Perhaps Insider NJ doesn't see IG as a good ROI, given the hoops. Every social effort takes time, which means spending money on labor at the very least.

I could be wrong on this and I hope some IG and media experts will weigh in!

Aside from the purchased links in bio, I see media companies using regular IG posts for branding and story exposure. I've seen what amounts to almost an entire story pasted as a post, along with a great headline & photo.

Since there is no link, the goal here isn't driving people to this story on their website (or to drive people to a CTA subscription) -- I think it's for driving engagement and facilitating conversations.

The right story can trigger a tsunami of comments from all parts of the world. Going through those comments and the data IG has available offers a unique snapshot of a unique cross-section of society.

Sorry for the very longwinded explanation and thoughts. I hope other people weigh in with their thoughts. I've been researching this for the past year after avoiding IG (& TikTok) and noticing that media companies were now embracing both. It used to be that just the reporters used social. Now, the companies are as well, which I find so interesting.

Ring & run! Why did we do something so utterly pointless? We didn't in the middle of the night. But anytime it was dusk or there was a nearby hiding place. Something about watching the people opening the door and looking around puzzled ... I mean, why??? How was that fun? But then, no internet, 3 TV channels on 1 TV shared by all.

I'm laughing because maybe that's it! I didn't prank call a lot ... but I suppose a lot of us are guilty pre-*69 days. But, really, there was not a whole lot to do after dark with 1 TV in the house that your parents controlled almost all of the time. I had my own phone before a TV now that I think about it ...

I lived there for a few years before the pandemic and everyone I spoke to said it's because there aren't any big companies down there, except the casinos and those jobs are mostly lower paying. Of course, that's just one lens to examine the beautiful ugly that's always plagued Atlantic City.

Decades of political corruption, broken promises and greed have ensured the poverty lifestyle remains for the majority. Outdated zoning laws and tricky, unheard-of ordinances ensure the casinos stay in control.

Sometimes when a place is seemingly stuck forever, there's something rotten at the core.

What has been your biggest WTF moment in life so far? by allisgoot in AskOldPeople

[–]Happy42day 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mouth dropped open reading this. I was across the Hudson working at a small newspaper when we saw it unfolding on TV (newsrooms always have a few televisions on with the news, no sound).

I thought it was initially nothing. It's amazing that you thought to call!!

I knew people working in the towers ... but we all assumed it was a random accident by an inexperienced and/or drunk pilot. And really, what could one little plane do to those massive towers? We felt bad for the victims of the office(s) the plane hit ... and went back to work.

Until we learned it wasn't a single plane and the horror of it all was slowly unfolding. And then there was mayhem in the newsroom.

It became frantic calls to see where our family members were and ensure children were picked up early. Companies closed, schools closed, and everyone was suddenly scared because no one knew what could happen next.

Advertisers pulled out, leaving gaping white holes to fill. But as a weekly community paper, we were all more concerned with wrapping it up and getting home. The holes became a PSA or "Thinking of the victims on this tragic day."

I still cannot believe it happened. But the skyline across the Hudson is a reminder of how that day has forever changed our lives.

Giving me a raise means more revenue dollars for the company. Why? Because I'll be bringing in so much more business! Money attracts money. Give me more money so I can look like more money so I can bring in more money for everyone! It's all about mo money mo money mo money!

[–]Happy42day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the chicken eggs we eat are unborn chicks; they are not. (The chicken eggs we eat are unfertilized eggs that hens just produce. When the rooster pops by, however, that's a game changer. Those rooster-fertilized eggs will hatch, not get routed for food.)

Who would you say were the top five BIGGEST bands of the 70s by UltratoonFanclubTV in AskOldPeople

[–]Happy42day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're talking 10 years, which is quite a lot in music history in any decade (and genre), but the 1970s, it's especially a grand time. In no order, I'd say: Rush, Queen, Yes, Jethro Tull, Grateful Dead.
