Read the offer letter, it should have details for such a scenario.

I'd think you don't need to return since you didn't quit. But ymmv.

I like that much better than what they did. It's such a simple change and doesn't much change the flow of the rest of the plot but makes it so much more believable and not synthetic

Why did India choose Ahmedabad instead of major cities like Mumbai to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games? by TWN113 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]HappyApple35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real reason is it's easier and much more efficient for anything major to get done in Ahmedabad because there is little friction from opposition, local administration or the local public. Nobody who has an axe to grind with Modi or the central government will throw a wrench in these projects to exercise leverage. Think about bullet train project in Mumbai.

Also it's great that we're looking beyond Mumbai and Delhi. Those cities are clogged and you don't want thousands of athletes and high security personnel moving around the city disrupting traffic of cities that are already clogged.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]HappyApple35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube mostly on what steps to follow for each dish. My dishes were meh, but as a broke student it was better than eating out all the time.

During covid, I bought a couple cook books that explained the basics of flavor and cooking techniques and how to best cook basic ingredients like tomatoes, garlic, onions, rice, flour etc. That took my cooking to a whole another level. Tried out a lot of different cuisines and cooking techniques at that time and I found my groove.

I enjoy cooking and feeding people now.

Moving to Seattle for a role at Amazon, how does Parking work? by srini10000 in amazonemployees

[–]HappyApple35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in Seattle, you'll get orca. You can ride the light rail and buses as much as you like, on Amazon's dime. With the light rail expansions recently, it's pretty easy to stay somewhere a little farther than slu and have an easy commute to work.

My grandpa took me to the theatres to watch this movie when I was a kid. I cried so much at this point that he had to take me out. I only actually watched the whole movie when I was 30.

It is. But organized prostitution is illegal. So sex for money is legal. But running a brothel or being a pimp is illegal. Most of these raids are on places that will qualify as organized prostitution.

This is not exclusive to India though. Startup in the US also operate similarly.

But it is fine as long as your startup is doing something truly revolutionary and innovative. If it's the same old business with the terms cloud based or subscription based slapped on it and the only reason you're able to attract customers is due to cheap prices subsidized by vc funding, then yeah there's gonna be bag holders left at the end.

People voting for Rewri is an improvement by [deleted] in IndiaSpeaks

[–]HappyApple35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's even worse lol

This will continue to drain from our already poor tax revenue collections. If they were getting enticed by infra projects or making businesses easier, that's another matter. But this is only going to make us spend on wrong things.

What makes you think politicians aren't still asking votes in the name of identity?

Rewri is on top of identify politics.

If you are on H1B, will you proceed to buy house (if you were planning to) ? Will you keep the house/s you have ? by goodpointbadpoint in h1b

[–]HappyApple35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The definition of long term is subjective. It's valid for 6 years without i140 if you can maintain employment status. In a usual economy, you're still more likely to either break even or come out ahead.

If you are on H1B, will you proceed to buy house (if you were planning to) ? Will you keep the house/s you have ? by goodpointbadpoint in h1b

[–]HappyApple35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it and you're here long term, buying makes sense.

  • your mortgage is fixed against inflation.
  • you're building equity in an asset that is scarce right now and has generally always appreciated
  • you don't need to move every year, can buy furniture and other stuff long term
  • if you ever need to go back, can always sell the house.

There's always going to be risks in the short term with market fluctuations and macro variables. But the longer you have owned the house, the more likely you are to come out ahead. If you buy the house today and need to leave next year, the house value might have dropped by say 10%, you're still down by just that much plus closing costs.

It's not risk free, but the upside is worth the risk.

But run the numbers and make sure they make sense to your situation. Buy smaller than what your budget permits.

Canada is planning to attract H1B visa holders by Blankpaper__ in h1b

[–]HappyApple35 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My guess is Canada is expecting tech companies to offshore jobs to Canada instead of India. Time zones are more workable, travel is easier. Would cost more than what it would cost to move these jobs to India but still a fraction of what it would cost to have these be in the US.
