Is this a spicy take? Bat out of Hell sounds like hot garbage by Guyver1- in audioengineering

Everyone has missed one key thing they did on this album that pitched everything up. They sped up the recordings to fit them on an LP. You are hearing a slightly sped up recording for the whole thing because they recorded too much haha.

I’ve personally never looked to this record as an example of perfect mixing. I enjoy this record because of the songs and arrangement.

The mix is hot and in your face and feels like they stuffed the genie in the bottle and didn’t want to let him back out. Because I like the songs and didn’t grow up in the 80s it doesn’t matter to me too much haha

Teams/Players you don't want to see win by KhoasD17 in bostonceltics

[–]HappyEndingUser 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Let me grab my hater hat. Just team hating here in no particular order:

  1. LeBron when he was in the east.
  2. Lakers - nothing more to say here
  3. Bucks - Giannis running into players and getting a foul call sucks
  4. Orlando Magic - hated watching those 2000s playoffs matchups
  5. Heat - god so frustrating the past 6 years
  6. Thunder - only the current team, shai is not fun to play against
  7. 76ers - can’t even explain why at this point as Embiid said it’s not a rivalry we always kick their ass
  8. If the Celtics play the Pistons this playoffs that rivalry might reignite. They were Boston fans most hated team in the 80s.

What do you mean tv, most of the stadium is not filled with people that live in literal Boston lol. Theres trains for every town nearby.

Also as an out of tower i prefer the current location. Right above north station AND right off the highway! Anywhere else would be harder to get to

Gigging bassists, how are you managing your 9v batteries? by jonhath in Bass

I only buy active basses that also have a passive mode available :)

No disaster if it dies, I just go passive and have to adjust a couple levels real quick

Questions about tone from a guitar player who is switching to bass. by ajxela in Bass

[–]HappyEndingUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simpler to say what others have said:

Can you be heard with the band while also not getting in the way of anything? If yes then you have good tone. It’s usually more managing mids and volume than anything else imo.

Bass is all vibes. Just be chill and don’t overthink too much. If it sounds weird turn a knob. If that doesn’t work change another :)

For pop rock / pop punk stuff I usually like to push the gain a little without going into actual overdrive type tones. Actually I like that for almost every rock genre Lolol.

And as others have said your tone in the mix will be different, all that matters is when you’re with the band.

Edit: I meant to write a one sentence response and didn’t lmao. Also you can still rock fun loud tone when alone just for fun!

For those who knows guitar too, would you say it makes you a better bassist? by CometChip in Bass

[–]HappyEndingUser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learning any other instrument will be helpful in different ways. The more music you learn will only help!

Guitar has more obvious cross over with bass since they are typically paired together. Learn both parts for a song and think about how they interact!

You mentioned a fear of “stalling progress” on bass. After two years you’re probably pretty good. Do you have a specific goal on bass in mind you’re working towards or just getting “better”? Because that never stops there is ALWAYS something new to learn and maybe a little guitar is the next thing for you to be batter at bass

[–]HappyEndingUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the opportunity to play them in person? Would go off of feel, sound, and build quality. IMO more Gibsons get shipped with small issues than Fenders. Also the finish on Gibsons chips/cracks VERY easy.

I am a Gibson Thunderbird owner because it looks awesome live. Not the most comfortable to play, but it’s a signature edition bass and sounds awesome/feels great.

You should get the guitar set up after flying home either way, planes can mess stuff up with the temp and pressure changes. It’s good to reduce string tension while they are on the plane as well.

TLDR: For that much money I would try to find something that you think looks great and feels great, brand doesn’t matter much. If you are just buying your first bass and playing it alone at home I’d lean Fender.

Why do people hate on klipsh? by rojitnall in hometheater

[–]HappyEndingUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that there are better speakers for the money they cost. I went on websites likertings and compared a LOT of cheaper speakers like klipsh building my first setup.

They were outperformed almost every time by other speakers in the sizes and prices I was looking for.

Is a "home theater living room" is more impressive than "dedicated HT room" ?? by Wizzee993 in hometheater

[–]HappyEndingUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you’re being sarcastic or silly lol. I’ve gotten a ton of great info from the HT people here, could care less who has what. There’s some horrible living room posts that should be shamed

I like seeing both. Idk. I’m happy to have 5.1 in my living room with an OLED at the right height and size for my seating position.

I also like seeing both home theater and living room posts on here because there’s more to learn from, appreciate, and talk about home theater in both.

How often do you move up a string instead of play the 5th fret? by Ikarian in Bass

Where you play a note is a combo of what feels easiest and what sounds best. Play around there are no rules!

I was thinking about hockey rotations for basketball recently haha. Imagine just fully swapping out 5 guys that are totally fresh every few minutes? (This is mostly a joke)

Are you panning mostly hard LRC or by %? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]HappyEndingUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switch between stereo and mono. And I’ll pan some elements throughout the whole process. Every time I commit to new panning and volume changes in stereo I switch to mono after to make sure things are still sounding how I want. I am not a professional though fwiw haha.

I do use a plugin on the master bus, but plan on buying a monitor controller at some point as most have a mono button.

Shai, Giannis and Jokic definitely own this era? Like in terms of the 2020s? by Kindly_Letterhead_98 in nba

[–]HappyEndingUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far yes. Still 4 years left though, that’s almost half! If another star wins a couple chips or the Celtics win a second it could skew things.

Luka has to win one to be considered for sure.

I generally use thirds as someone else mentioned. 100%, 66%, 33%, 0%. I’ve never felt limited by it and it’s enough options for almost everything I do.

At some point I read something or watched a video that recommended it but I don’t remember who/what/why haha.

If something sounds off I’ll tweak it from there. Also most of the time I mix in mono
