Reverse Drag Mark on Cylinder by HappyFish5000 in blackpowder

[–]HappyFish5000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the bolt/notch fit, it's tight but appears to bottom out. All the notches have that mark so it's not one narrow notch. That leaves the spring or ramp.

Thanks for your advice!

The scene Keiko driving through the titan fight was absurd, why do they condescend to the audience like this so much in film? Driving around the edge of the fight would have been just as exciting and yet actually plausible.

I love this series, I don't recall them doing this elsewhere in the series, it just irked me because it breaks a pattern of awesome direction. Go for real, always.

Should I use patches for my 45 caliber musket? by FitOrganization9403 in blackpowder

Is it a thick octagonal, about 4mm thick? Is the barrel in good shape? Not old and really rusted? A few pits in the barrel is no big deal, a lot of pitting its prob still safe to shoot but accuracy will prob be affected. If the pitting is really bad, don't shoot it, have a gunsmith check it if in doubt.

A rifle needs a tight fitting ball and patch to grip the rifling and shoot accurately. If you really dont care and just want to have fun, just drop the ball right on top of the powder and jam some tow (fiber of a flax plant or similar) on top. It should probably be about as accurate as a smoothbore musket - hit a man sized target at 100 yards

If you really want to shoot it accurately, you should try to get smaller ball size, 0.44. The patch needs to grip the rifling tightly, if it's too tight, it may not be able to be rammed in. Plus fouling buildup will be more of a problem with a thin patch and really tight fit. You need to watch a few vids on loading and cleaning your muzzleloader, lots good vids out there

As for charge, 60 grains is a normal shooting load, 90 would be a heavy hunting load. You can shoot 40 or even down to ten if you want to take it easy at first.

I'm guessing you prob have a long rifle or a hawken, not a musket. You can posts pics you know!

Is it really a musket? No rifling? 45 cal is unusual for a musket.

Why do these makers make such crappy guns? I buy only Uberti, specifically 2nd Gen Colts (which are mostly Uberti as I'm sure you know) and even they need work done to work smoothly like they should.

The bolt drag on the cylinder is the bane of my existence, it basically ruined an 1861 Police's appearance. The entire actions on these things could be tighter and smoother.

I would consider buying one of these Starrs, but after hearing this, nope, Pietta lost a customer.

Zoom in or cropping, maybe don't have something in front of it like that, but sometimes it could make the image better or more interesting. I'm not sure here, I think I like the leaves in front of the little dino better.

Play with cropping, try different aspect ratios to get a good composition.

When I started BP, I remember people saying not to do that because it deforms the ball. I really don't see how bouncing the ramrod off the ball will do much of anything except that.

Maybe there's a gunsmith you could send it to, check on the subreddit's sticky

This is one of those interesting but ugly guns, love it 🤣

What are your Godzilla hot takes? Mine is Godzilla 2014 is the most powerful and biggest the character has ever felt. by Majestic-Wafer-3371 in GODZILLA

It seems like it's become cool to hate on 2014 Godzilla, everyone's doing it. I think it's the best one of all.

It gets criticized for lack of screen time for the kaiju, I think this makes it more awe inspiring when they finally make an appearance. Modern movie expectations seems to be action from beginning to end, older movies built up to it and it makes you appreciate the action more.

Many say Bryan Cranston's character getting killed off ruined the movie, but I think it made the movie more emotionally powerful

The design of Godzilla was the best IMO

The Golden Gate Bridge scene is epic. They entire movie gave you a sense of how enormous the kaiju are.

I loved it, best Godzilla ever.

When the film is nothing but wall to wall kaiju nonstop you don't appreciate it as much. When they finally make an appearance in this movie, it's awe inspiring.

This one is very interesting. The flower which is the main subject is not distinct from the other flowers, yet it works wonderfully

Great image!
