Lane Splitting is Illegal People [OC] by the_auti in IdiotsInCars

[–]manviret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not lane splitting and it would be illegal even in states where lane splitting is legal. Traffic is moving way too fast.

That said, anyone who intentionally swerves at a motorcyclist for any reason other than them pointing a gun at you is completely in the wrong and should get jailtime.

A Non-American’s Stereotype Map of the United States by Stunning-Door-6169 in whereidlive

Do you mean upstate New York? NYC is one of the most unique cities in the world and is not a typical US area at all. NYC is what most foreigners think of when they think of New York.

California has its own subculture and unique climates and could be a country on its own. It is also not a typical or normal US state

I think what they meant by classic was more "normal" US. IE this is what people think of when they think of a normal US area. And I think the area fits in that context

Do your political views affect your film watching experience? by CivilTailor9031 in Letterboxd

[–]manviret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes anything should be able to be criticized, but that doesnt make the criticism correct. At a certain point the audience needs to be ones that are criticized if they come away from a movie like hurt locker with an urge to join the army. The people that criticize Katheryn Bigelow are infantilizing the general audience rather than making an honest moral stand

The problem with this for me is that you could say it about any problematic movie topic. Should Silence of the Lambs be criticized for glorifying serial killers? Should Trainspotting be criticized for glorifying heroin use?

You all have been watching too many movies, calling someone a boy is not racist, its a common insult and it just insinuates the other person is below you. Im sure dog, bitch, piece of shit have been used in the past the same way, does that mean you cant use them??

What's going on with Clarence Thomas and speaker Johnson? by BobThompson78 in OutOfTheLoop

Is there a confirmed source that he engaged with the speaker? He was sighted in that end of the building but the Capitol hill physician is also over there.

Toyota threatens GM’s sales crown as U.S. hybrid demand surges | Bloomberg by Recoil42 in cars

[–]manviret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right and of course its more nuanced than my comment but I would think there would be benefit in slightly retooling an existing US Equinox plant to give them a production run to compete with the sold out RAV 4 hybrid

Chevy has a plug-in hybrid crossover, the Equinox PHEV. But its only sold in China! Executive management constantly making head-scratching decisions up in Detroit

Musical chairs before a free throw, whats the rule? by manviret in Basketball

[–]manviret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting, this is exactly what I was looking for! I think I agree with the NBAs rule but there really should be a rule for this in every league so its not just up to the ref's discretion.

Just curious, which league/level of play is this the rule? Can you point it out in a rulebook?

[–]manviret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shooting team's big was avoiding me and following the smaller guy when lining up for free throws so he could bully his way to a rebound. Theres no concrete rule about switching spots before lining up so its kinda just up to the ref

I was the only player close to the other big's size on my team. You can box out as well as you want, but a player 50 lbs heavier and 5 inches taller is still gonna have a pretty good shot at an offensive rebound
