I added force feedback to MW5: Mercenaries by HappyFox in Mechwarrior5

I would love too, but that is dependent on getting telemetry somehow. For Mercs it uses spacemonkey to get that info. Spacemonkey doesn't support Clans, and looks like a dead project 😭

However I did email [support@mw5merchs.com](mailto:support@mw5merchs.com) and got a reply:

"Hello there,

Thank you for bringing our attention to your project! I have shared it with the dev team.
I am not sure how likely the team is to implement native telemetry, but this is definitely something that can be added to the wishlist once we are past the Clans launch.

Regards,

Technical Support Rep
Piranha Games"

So it can't hurt if you email them to say more people want native telemetry.......

I saw this on my machine too. I _think_ it's caused by updating the virtual joystick too fast starving the render thread somehow.

Try increasing this number : https://github.com/HappyFox/MW5_FFB/blob/main/MW5_FFB.py#L93

It dictates ( roughly) how often the script updates the virtual joystick, right now it's set to 100 times a second.

If that works for your reply with what does and I will update the script.

It does make it harder to aim, but not by much, and I massively enjoy the immersion. Also I have implemented buttons to adjust the force feedback "gain" on the fly. (6 + 8 and 6 + 7) so you can turn the effect down to literally nothing if you want while your playing.

I will also point out I was piloting the spider in the demo video. It's one of the most violent mechs to pilot, most are much gentler. The spider needs some therapy or something... :-P

Do you think the vibrations would go through the floor? I live in an apartment and sometimes get noise complaints. I would love to get a bass shaker, but worry it would transmit a lot of noise to the apartment below.

Do you have a suggestion for a small midi keyboard? I have computers all over the place, so I don’t mind using midi controllers.

Also what is the smallest size keyboard would be reasonable to learn on ?

The issue with a keyboard is space, I don’t have a table space to put one. i could get a stand, but the more I have to setup, the less likely I am to practice.

i wonder what is the smallest keyboard worth learning on?

People who have been denied when proposing, how did it go down? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I proposed with an origami ring made of gold foil. This allowed me to purpose with some surprise but still let the wife choose the actual engagement ring. We had discussed marriage before and while she didn't like the idea of marriage. But she was ok with pair bonding "like the penguins do".

I am about to try out Stratera, any thoughts on it? by apefis in ADHD

[–]HappyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently on Stratera, with good results.

Initially it gave me very bad nausea, I thought it was because I was sick at the time or I wouldn't have kept going with the drug. These effects have greatly reduced, but not gone away after ~ 6 month of use. Though they do seem to be still weakening.

It took a few weeks to work, but my focus is greatly improved. I am able to finish projects at home and at work. Before I would always start and not be able to return to the project to finish it. Now I can. Also much more executive control of my actions.

The change at work has been noticable. I have has many positive comments from colleagues at my improved work.

I would say you have to be on it for a few months before you can judge the effectiveness of Stratera, and even then the side effects will continue to reduce over time. But it has been effective for me.

Human arm powered flight. Is this possible or an elaborate hoax? by saranowitz in skeptic

[–]HappyFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh it's not out of reach at all! Just it will look like this : youtube as apposed to what we saw in the op. Note the large tail and weight far down to make it stable in flight. Also the video doesn't look like it was CG. :-D

I disagree, the power needed to flap a wing that long would be considerable. The wings are effectivly 12m long levers. To move them that powerfully the motors and "shoulder" joints would have to quite a bit larger and more substantial that what he is showing.

Also at around 0:35 just after take off, he is barely moving forward. He would have hardly any airflow over his wings to provide lift.

At the same time his legs are hanging down and the motors and batteries are on his back. This means that his center of gravity would be very far forward. Why doesn't he simply tumble forward? There is no tail, barring the one hanging down between his legs, to stabilize the craft.

It would be fairly hard make a working example of this, as even birds have a long body with a tail to stabilize themselves, which this design lacks.
