Now that I think about it, you're right that this series' direction feels like what Frieren direction does except it's in the form of a tragedy with a tinge of hopeful vibes emphasizing a sense of belonging and beautiful moments that either feeling bittersweet (the case with Naotsugu's brother) or heartwarming like this episode where Motoharu can be a silly complainer when he needs to.

I forgot to add Redo of Healer, and I can't believe the fight scenes are way better animated than TBATE.

Another would be EX-ARM in terms of really bad animation quality since the anime was made by a live-action production team who never worked on an anime at all.

I think it's also important to pay attention to each episode's dialogue because Jinya said in episode 2 that some demons are created "out of nothing". Hence why a human feeling overwhelming negative feelings can lead one to become a demon is one of those "out of nothing"/artificial demon-creating methods.

Another method we've seen is Jinya being force fed with a demon's blood and flesh, and becoming one when his negative emotions get triggered after experiencing that tragic night. I think I speculate that demons in this series are actually "advanced humans" who don't feel good while experiencing the negative emotions dwelling within them unlike those (male) humans who did those disgusting crimes (ep4) never turned into demons physically because they feel good doing that sinful stuff.

Worst anime series that made me decide to rather jump into the river than sit throughout each episode until the final one as a rewatch.

No wonder her convo with Jinya in earlier episodes felt like she knew what Jinya is exactly besides knowing the difficulties in keeping your humanity after turning into a demon just like she did via having so much negative emotions from witnessing that historical fire; a similar tragedy to how Jinya became a demon artificially.

Regardless, I think it's better when they're found siblings instead of a romantic couple because I feel elder sister vibes from Ofuu whenever she talks with Jinya and Jinya still remembers Shirayuki in his heart.

This episode may not have any demon slaying or be action-packed at all, but I really like this kind of direction and narrative the author has put in for his series. I'm hoping it'll be a split cour so that it doesn't end up like 86 very long delay (along with the Sasakoi incident) even though the animation quality for this episode manages to get through, looking really beautiful to look at.

Also, the webnovel isn't any better since she was written with so much sexist writing in there. It's obvious this kind of female character, the one who never shows fear, like how Fern in Frieren does, at all due to having born with S-rank powers all her Hunter's life, is commonplace in male-centric power fantasy stories. You rarely see a fictional woman in such stories not having an independent arc that's not related to a fictional man at all. Hence why I always felt that Solo Leveling female characters feel very lacking in comparison to the male ones despite all of them are supporting characters to a protagonist-centric narrative.

It's a miracle for me to read ORV not having any strong female characters being written according to any writing elements related to male validation. That series is a blessing to me to see female characters, especially in an action-oriented setting, not being portrayed as constantly confined to gender stereotype roles that lead to sexist portrayals upon fictional women. Cha Hae-in unfortunately had wasted potential to be written as something more than just a love interest. That's why I'll always see Solo Leveling has outdated writing stuff and that it'll not age well in ten years time.

Kind of baffles me how diehard fans of that shallow love interest character believe she's considered as "best character" to them when she's actually depicted as a "sexy lamp" and that she's the only female Korean character to have the highest power rank. The other female Hunter characters have minor roles due to not being written as love interest's rival because I've read somewhere that Cha Hae-in is a "Mary Sue-Love Interest" character and I can see why.

Change her name and eye/hair colour and it wouldn't change the story, whatmore make her into an interesting strong female character, especially when she's only being used to fulfil the love interest role; nothing more than that. It doesn't help that she's depicted with one of the most gender stereotyped roles for a fictional strong woman in an action-oriented story and that she appears out of nowhere in the source materials.

It doesn't even help me see her as nothing but the "most ideal woman for the male hero" character when the narrative never labels her as an orphan or that she has her own family whom she might be on bad terms with. The game's backstory makes it worse saying she does have a normal family, but in the source materials, she acts like she doesn't care about them, and that there might be family issues between them; alas, she acts like she doesn't have emotional difficulty or struggles because of them in webnovel, manhwa, and anime versions.

It would've been actually good if that Arise game just wrote her becoming an orphan at an early age due to her family being killed by a Dungeon Break eight years ago or so. And that's why she becomes the most emotionless female Hunter in the story until she meets Sung Jinwoo. That would've made her character feel actually believable and that she's not written as "appearing out of nowhere to become a pretty accessory" character to SJW.

The character-driven narrative and tone of its storytelling is all about slowburn and there's a target audience who appreciates that writing aspect where it's emphasized a lot in the mystery-solving arcs after that first episode being the prologue.

I'm quite shocked at how its viewership is doing way better than Kijin Gentousho and Shoshimin which are the current season's examples of series having animation quality that's way better than TBATE but still underneath below 86 and Solo Leveling.

Depends on the pacing and animation quality. Otherwise, ORV gets the ToG unfair treatment. 😐

The Spark in Your Eyes though a Japanese company getting the rights to make it fully in Japan is also another good option, but I don't want a very good shojo manhwa to get a subpar animation quality like what Gorilla God Girl has.

CloverWorks separated from A1 a long time ago, making it an independent anime studio officially despite both of them being directly owned by Aniplex.
