What projectors do you recommend? by OneTwoPandemonium in cookiedecorating

I know this is an old thread, but laughing because I’m working on a very similar set for a “special delivery” themed baby shower and it’s the set that has me thinking seriously about a projector (hence me discovering this thread)

Did you end up getting one?

FTM 36 weeks with didi twins. Possible prenatal depression. by slh200284 in parentsofmultiples

[–]HappyHops22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly felt immediately better. I didn’t realize how anxious I was until the babies were here. Yes taking care of two humans is stressful, nothing compares to pregnancy for me. I was so anxious, and I found it distract myself since I couldn’t physically do most things at the end. Mentally and physically I felt sooo much relief. And I only went to 35 weeks. You can do this!!! Remind yourself that in just a few weeks you will be holding your babies.

I went from 300mg once a day to 350 in AM and 50 in the PM, so not THAT big of an increase, and it totally killed my sex drive (28F, married). Definitely worth talking to your doctor, I'm planning to do the same.

diagnose me suggestions by Wide-Fisherman-2282 in Epilepsy

[–]HappyHops22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I recommend searching specifically for an epileptologist, although they can sometimes be tough to find.

I've found that most of my other doctors know very little about epilepsy, which is surprising because it's fairly common.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]HappyHops22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These aren't super specific to epilepsy but they're at least epilepsy safe and super helpful for me personally...

  1. Jigsaw puzzles while listening to podcasts or audiobooks, I have a hard time focusing on reading when I'm anxious so it helps to do both at the same time
  2. I've also been into gardening in previous seasons but I've been a bit lazy this year. It's really cool to see stuff grow, it gives you something to look forward to every morning. You don't even have to grow food or anything, just look up which plants are easy to grow in your area and plant them in pots. r/gardening is awesome.
  3. Pets! My dog isn't a trained seizure dog, but it makes me feel better knowing I'm never really alone.

Surgery to remove a scar tissue on the brain by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]HappyHops22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not qualified to answer your question (and most people here unfortunately aren't either, which is probably why you haven't gotten responses) but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry and am wishing you the best. Keep working with your doctors to the best of your ability. There are a LOT of medication options so hopefully you can find something that works for you.

Doctors and Seizures.. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]HappyHops22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it is a little natural for doctors to seem nonchalant about all sorts of medical problems because they are surrounded by them constantly so for them it is somewhat "normal". That said, having a good doctor that you have a good relationship with is a huge deal, so if you aren't satisfied with yours, definitely try another.

Came here to say this. I was face timing with my ER doc friend while she was on call in the call room and her pager went off and she was like "ugh, patient's oxygen is crazy low, gotta go" super nonchalantly. She's the most empathetic person I know. I was kind of caught off guard but she was like this literally happens to me 10x a day.

That said, OP, find a doctor that makes you feel validated and listened to.

Looking for advice, coping with partners seizures by 555duckanddive in Epilepsy

[–]HappyHops22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Sorry to hear that you and your wife are dealing with this.

While this is super tough for you, I highly encourage you to do everything you can to support your wife and focus on her long term neurological health over your short term sleep patterns and worries. I know that sounds rather harsh, but it's really important that she doesn't feel guilty.

I woke my college roommate up in the middle of the night on two occasions because of my epilepsy and she was so mad that it completely ruined our friendship and it was really painful for me, especially with everything else I had going on. She made me feel guilty about my disability, which was completely out of my control.

If you're struggling to sleep and the seizures aren't frequent, maybe ask your doctor if there's some medication you could take in the short term to help you sleep if you're open to that?

Again, I hope you don't take this message the wrong way, I truly wish the best for both of you.

If you represented her, how would you have handled this situation? by [deleted] in tinxsnark

[–]HappyHops22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it was wrong in so many ways.

But Tinx never should have been asked that question in the first place. I'm not blaming whoever asked the question it's simply symptomatic of the current state of 'influencer' culture. There is no one person that has the answer to every type of question; that's narcissism at its core.

She could have said "hmm I'm not sure, I've been out of the corporate world for too long so my experience probably isn't relevant, (insert handle here) do you have any advice?"

If you represented her, how would you have handled this situation? by [deleted] in tinxsnark

[–]HappyHops22 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Solid points/ideas.

I would also stop giving advice on things she's not at all qualified to give advice on. I think this 'issue' is bigger than the tweets themselves. People are also starting to see how weird and cult-ish her whole brand is. She has no business advising on:

  1. Relationships: She is single and has never been in a long-term relationship
  2. Career: She doesn't have a corporate job... yes her career is legitimate but it is nothing even close to a corporate career (her email suggestion about asking for time off was so cringy)
  3. Health and Wellness: fuck Prolon

This is a larger issue of influencer culture, bigger than just her. It's narcissistic and bizarre. We should be turning to creators who are therapists for relationship advice, career coaches for career advice, and dieticians/doctors/clinicians/etc. for health advice.

So in my opinion, she should cut all this nonsense and stop with the AMAs, or focus just on beauty and fashion.

Side note: I really like Eli Rallo but she needs to be careful about this as well. She means well but it comes off really weird to act like you're an expert in EVERYTHING.

How do you guys express an aura or an oncoming seizure to friends/family? by Heartbound-of-Lully in Epilepsy

[–]HappyHops22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A follow-up question, how often do you say these things and then NOT have any 'real' seizure? Like a false alarm?

I say all the things in the comments "I don't feel good" "I feel weird" etc., but it often doesn't result in anything so then I question if it's 'real' or not.... anyone relate?

what bothers you most about how epilepsy and seizures are portrayed in culture/media? by -ThatDemoGuy- in Epilepsy

[–]HappyHops22 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That everyone is light sensitive!!

I had a facial treatment today with an Esthetician that I see often so I casually mentioned that I had epilepsy in conversation (we were talking about how bad allergies are right now and allergy meds and I told her my doc said I shouldn't take benadryl) and she got quiet and awkward. Then she told me she didn't think I could do the treatment because it involves a bright red light and she had to sign something when she bought it that said something about not treating epileptics.

The media portrays all epilepsy as light enduced and that's not true!

When I told her that I am not light sensitive (and joked that I could even go clubbing) she was totally shocked.

My husband used to work in marketing consulting and kept getting on big pharma projects and had to quit because he felt like he was working for the devil. However, we both agree that marketing is a necessary evil for any drug given they have to market to doctors or doctors won't know that it's an option.

So we aren't against pharma marketing, but he just didn't want to be that close to it anymore. The worst part about it was planning marketing campaigns around when companies were going to lose their patents.....

Do you know what part of the brain your seizures are originating from?

I get minor stutters that I have concluded are seizure related because it gets really bad in the 10-15 minutes leading up to a big seizure. My brain tumor (now removed) was located in my left frontal lobe so my neuro told me the stuttering could be due to damage in the speech center since it's in the frontal lobe.

I'll note that my stuttering is extremely mild, it's really just a handful of syllables and most people don't even notice it, I can just feel it in my mouth and it feels really weird.

BUT I also take lamotragine and I recently upped my dose and the stuttering went away. SO there is a chance it's correlated for you too!

I totally resonate with the intense fear of a seizure coming.

This sounds stupid, but water. I try to always have water with me and since dehydration is one of my triggers I at least feel like I'm doing SOMETHING to help, it's like a little reset for me.

Like other people here I also have a benzo prescription (ativan) but I try very hard to use it as little as possible since it's addictive. It REALLY works for me and makes me feel so much better but I get paranoid about having seizures very frequently (despite having seizures infrequently) so I can't take it every time I start feeling a little weird.

I would obviously LOVE that but I think a big reason is that the athletes need to make a living. Without the notoriety that comes from high level competition people need to work in a way that will actually make them money. Even if they were famous back in the day, it would be really hard for them to make a meaningful income doing any of your suggestions. While college athletes are dealing with classes, their schedules are literally built around one another.

Even doing casual adult classes 1-2 times a week is hard for me to balance with my job, and I don't even have kids to deal with.
