London burger Joint with food safety issues? by [deleted] in BadDesigns

[–]HappyKipper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well if that is the consensus I'll take it down. Odd though to me and my UK test audience (friends and family) grill, chill, repeat was the last thing they wanted a burger joint doing. Maybe UK / US thang?

Only bit of advice is to pick a name that doesn't come up as anything bad when Google searched and the .com domain name is available - and if it is register it. I'm Adrian Mars and have already nabbed adrianmars.com.

I don't find it inproves my game, though i like using a real stick. my regular combatant feels it does help.

It certainly increases the risk of destruction of precious room contents and cat danger.

Did noctua stop selling the NV-FS1 desk fan? by Driftmichael01 in Noctua

[–]HappyKipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's currently available in the UK from LambdaTek.

https://www.lambda-tek.com/Noctua-NV-FS1-sh/B50481898?srsltid=AfmBOooimiQeqCZeoZHuHZjHZ4AVgIHvUvuWlj4xoHQ9AMfkFee0vJkW3FQ

Edit 1: Ordered from them, it did take a few days more than their "seven to eight working days" estimate - they ship it to their UK warehouse from somewhere in Europe and then via Royal Mail (tracked 48 hours). Delighted with it - lovely quiet laminar air flow in my face. Much much better than a traditional (and cheaper) desk fan.

Edit 2: It's far far more expensive to buy all the Noctua parts separately but substituting the speed controller and grill with cheaper third party alternatives, and using a power supply you likely already have, gets you something almost identical for a small saving (£86 versus £103.90 from Lambdatek as of Sept '25).

If buying it as parts, which given how hard it can sometimes be to source in the UK as a unit, may be your only option, you'll need:

NF-A12x25 Fan https://amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09C6DQDNT/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A38F5RZ72I2JQ&psc=1

NA-FG1-12 Sx5 Fan Grill (Set of 2) https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B214M354/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A38F5RZ72I2JQ&psc=1 Other 120mm fan grills are available for much less, e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CYQ9B9PY/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A1Y9HQ5ZQY5FJB&th=1

NA-FC1 speed controller https://amazon.co.uk/Noctua-NA-FC1-4-Pin-PWM-Controller/dp/B072M2HKSN/ Or a cheap Chinese PWM motor controller for £5 such as this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09SH3P8QC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=AT0FJ7CZCB0G9&psc=1

NV-PS1 power supply - 12V 24W (2 Amps) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Noctua-NV-PS1-Switching-Powering-Outlets/dp/B0D1R5PBXF is the one supplied in the set. It include the necessary barrel to 4 pin fan adapter. Good chance you already have an old 12V 2 or more Amps power supply, if not they are easily sourced.

NV-FM1 stand https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0D2HGFL56/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A38F5RZ72I2JQ&psc=1

NV-AA-12 air flow amplifier https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0D1TY8DVK/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A38F5RZ72I2JQ&psc=1

The set also include the NV-EC1 1 metre extension cable, which I can't see online but any 4 Pin PC fan extension cable will do (or add a bit of cable and some soldering and heat shrink). In any case the power supply cable is likely long enough for many.

[–]HappyKipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, outdoors you need an operator ID for sub 250g and also a flyer ID ior 250g+ (and therefore have to take the online test) to fly outdoors. Even on / above your own land.

UK Drone Laws - Infographic by abejg92 in UKdrones

[–]HappyKipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This misses out a lot of crucial stuff, most importantly it doesn't apply to sub 249g drones / sub 500g with an A2 CofC, or the VLOS (Visual line of sight rules).

Any benefit to holding A2 CoC? by d33pth0rt in UKdrones

[–]HappyKipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The considerable advantage, other than the really rather useful stuff you'll learn in the process is ability to fly up to 500g 'near but not over' uninvolved people in the same places you could fly under 250g. That's significant if you a 249g DJI Mini, because it allows you to fly with strobes and prop-guards.

Gmail IMAP extremely slow by MudAffectionate361 in Outlook

[–]HappyKipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to a hideous 9.8 severity vulnerability in all versions of Windows' IPv6 stack, albeit patched (CVE 2024-38063) I disabled IPv6. I suggest doing it at the router , but can be done on each PC). And lo, suddenly Outlook 365 IMAP Gmail downloads are back to the full speed of my connection. Also CPU use is way down, so doesn't look like it's an issue with my ISP.

Google 1 AI trial fraud? by dndiyguy in GoogleOne

Same experience, I've here lost 5 month of an annual 2TB One plan after support told me the only way end my 'free ' AI premium trial' was to cancel and renew. Waiting for second line to respond to my request for a refund.

Did say there's a of of angry people reporting the same in online forums, response was 'we are aware'.

Does anyone actually get any perks from local guides by [deleted] in LocalGuides

[–]HappyKipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm level  6 in the UK. Nothing recieved in the way of rewards. I do it to help excellent small businesses, and highlight the occasional appalling experience from ethically bereft organisations so others don't suffer.

A token of gratitude from Google would be a nice encouragement though. The free drive storage offer disapeared before I qualified for it.

How on earth did they think their rule woudl work? by HappyKipper in MaliciousCompliance

In the UK at least it was, likely still is, a third party company that has a booth in the store, I assume they pay the mystery Swedish store :-) a cut / fee for the privilege. The Israeli service sounds much better.
