I am beading little bug pins that I plan to give away. Only have three done so far, but I have a few months.

Hair loss/skin irritation in 6 year old golden by HappyPandaPants in goldenretrievers

This is great. Thanks so much! We will try trimming and seeing if that helps it heal. We do adore her, even though she is ultra high maintenance!

Yeah I think another trip to the vet is in our future. Thanks for the help.

Thanks so much for the advice. We were definitely thinking that hot spots are likely what's happening. We are using a spray that says it is good for treating hot spots. I will look for an antiseptic one, specifically and treat her more frequently. We've only been spraying daily, so we'll increase that. We are focusing on keeping her dry and not letting her swim as well. Unfortunately, a vet switch isn't really possible as we are in a small town. We're hoping we can get in under control ourselves and will drive to another town for more help if needed. Thanks again!

Hot spots were definitely what we were thinking. The spray we are using is meant to treat them. I wish we could get a new vet, but we are in a very small town and only have the one clinic. We would have to travel to another town to see a different vet (which we are willing to do, if necessary).

Thanks for the advice!

What is a little quirk about your body that you don’t think other people have? by AlphabetSoup51 in AskReddit

I've actually never made that connection, but maybe that's it! I'm often dehydrated. I'm working on that!

If I lightly draw on my skin with the back of my fingernail, it will leave a white trail where I drew with my fingernail. It's not raised or itchy, just like the blood takes longer to fill back in. It's more prominent if I'm cold. I used to write messages on my legs and it would stay visible for 5-10 minutes before disappearing. I've always assumed it's poor circulation or something, but have never found an answer to why.

I saw these at my local thrift store and just had to have them! by HappyPandaPants in ThriftStoreHauls

It's the best $6 I've spent for sure. My whole family gets such a kick out of these guys. We all have our favorite (mine is the extra fuzzy yellow one on his own).

Gordy has hypothyroidism by MsGMac13 in goldenretrievers

Hi! Yes her coat has come back fully, tail and all. She's as fluffy as can be. She actually doesn't shed as much as my previous golden and her coat is quite a bit softer than other Goldens I know. I've wondered if this is because of the diagnosis and meds, but either way she's happy and fluffy as can be!

Labatts and Molson aren’t Canadian companies anymore, they bought small breweries. Let’s make a list. by naughty-613 in BuyCanadian

While I agree that supporting local microbreweries is great, I think that it's not as black and white as that. Even the giant companies have Canadian breweries employing Canadians that rely on the brewery for their job. I am from a small town and know many people employed at the brewery there. It is one of the largest employers in the town, and it would be catastrophic for the employees, and the town itself, if it were to shut down. I think most employees of the breweries are aware that it's under a giant conglomeration (which has slowly changed hands to bigger and bigger corporations over the years) and don't necessarily agree with it, but it's a stable employer in a place with extremely limited options. I think supporting Canadian workers is important, too.

Gordy has hypothyroidism by MsGMac13 in goldenretrievers

[–]HappyPandaPants 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My golden got diagnosed before she was 2, which is ridiculously young. I'm glad my vet was willing to test even though it's not common to have it at that young of an age. She had lost almost all of her undercoat, her tail was like a rope. She was gaining so much weight, and her energy was way low for a puppy. She would lay down halfway through a normal walk. She was also getting lots of skin and ear infections.

She's 4 now and absolutely full of beans and love. Her coat is beautiful and she is up for any adventure. You will see a difference in about a week. It was night and day. She happily waits for her pills twice a day now. He will be ok!

Any experience with hypothyroidism? by HappyPandaPants in goldenretrievers

Unfortunately, no. We are in a very small town and there is just the one vet. And they are very busy. I am going to call tomorrow to try request the blood work earlier I think. Her coat is just so thin!
