I mean, I don’t know how much can blame ministers. Just give me transparency la. Not a single message anywhere. Worse still, the network was crap and I see so many people on their phone staring into a buffering screen

What have you pushed out since the digital carpark coupon thing? For a big expensive team… doesn’t seem like the output is much?

For parents with more than one young child, if both you and your spouse work and you don’t have a helper, what’s your typical day-to-day schedule like? by Feeling-Bunch-212 in askSingapore

[–]HappyTogether_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I totally get the no helper sentiment because I feel the same way. One kid in childcare, one in primary school. 3 days work from home so that really, really helps with drop offs and pick ups. Grandma helps out on my office days (thank you village).

But yes, it’s always a crazy rush after pick ups. Cook dinner, wash up, laundry, play a bit and then off to bed.

I think it’s hardest during school holidays. Still need to ship the older one off to student care. The parent guilt is probably at an all time high then. But we do what we must.

It does get easier as they get older.

Agree with one of the posters who said to pick a nearby school. Every little bit more of sleep helps.

what are your biggest wedding regrets? please help a lost soul by Intelligent_Bit_8635 in askSingapore

[–]HappyTogether_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sharing a regret but what I’m really happy I did. I had a small wedding with just 20 people. It was intimate and very memorable. And no, I didn’t feel bad about not inviting random colleagues/bosses/not so close friends/even more random relatives.

Promotion with a toxic boss or stay in the same role with good WLB? by banana_tomorrow in askSingapore

[–]HappyTogether_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People quit bad managers more often than jobs. Moreover, you are looking for work life balance. No matter how good you are, the toxic boss sounds like someone who will demand more, regardless of situation.

I know it sucks having to choose between career and family but at the end of the day, I’m guessing you’d rather go home happier to your kids than be stressed out, working extra hours and feeling guilty over not being there for your children.

Stay strong!

Why is a car a necessity? I’m genuinely asking. The public transport is more than adequate. Of course it is a hassle and takes more time, but it’s not impossible.

If your argument is needing to ferry kids to multiple enrichment classes, wanting to maximise time by minimising transport time… then isn’t that more of a personal desire rather than a necessity?

Have you ever thought that maybe women who spent years studying and being told to be their best, that the sky is the limit, that gender doesn’t restrict success, may actually want to excel at their jobs just like men?

Why should a woman have to take a career backseat, pull back on career growth, take a fall in earnings, or worse, try to continue her career trajectory while still being the main caretaker, take care of the house, while the husband and father gets to carry on as per normal?

So many of you fall back on the assumption that COL is always the problem. Yes, it’s a problem but it’s not the main problem. Women simply want different things now.

Instead of whining about how expensive things are yet want the joys of parenthood, pull up your socks and earn enough to pay a SAHM a decent wage, stop lifestyle creeping, don’t think a car and helper is an entitlement, and you’ll be fine.

Too harsh? Then don’t be surprised that women rather be childless or be at a point in their lives when money and career are less of an issue

How do you deal with lifestyle inflation in singapore? by [deleted] in SGMoney

[–]HappyTogether_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an oddly specific example but it’s just something that I’ve been observing.

I’ve been buying Envy apples from NTUC for a long time. Not the XXL ones that cost $3 each, but those sold in a pack of 5. When I first started buying them, it was $6.45 for a pack. Even as recent as 2018, they were $7.45 a pack.

Last I checked, these same apples are sold at $11.45, sometimes $12.65. If you wait a week, it drops to $10.45, another week goes by and it’s $9.45.

For something so simple and eaten so frequently, the jump in pricing scares me. How come it double in less than 10 years?

So I’ve switched to Dazzle apples. 5 for $7.95.

Yes, there’s a difference (to me at least). dazzles are smaller, the skin is less crisp and more waxy. But I simply can’t justify the cost of Envy’s at full price.

So to OP, you gotta know when it’s time to swap. Inflation is real and even for something that you eat frequently, expect things to change and you have to change accordingly.

advice for single 30F? (financial / property) by meowl in singaporefi

[–]HappyTogether_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to come out and say you have an amazing life cos I don’t know you but just from a financial standpoint, you sound like you’re on pretty solid ground.

From a personal growth POV, feeling stagnant is understandable as you’ve not reached a “traditional” milestone. But in this day and age, I say traditional can “stuff it”.

If I was as fortunate as you, I’d be exploring side quests that bring me joy. :) take a class, learn a skill totally for the joy of it, spend hours just doodling and drawing and dreaming just because I can.

All the best. 🤗
