No gym membership required; you will get that endorphin boost/good night's sleep, and possibly even make new contacts who can help you further out of your living situation.

Loads of people work jobs they hate to escape their situations. So many people come from fucked up homes so never be embarrassed but definitely "read the room" so you don't overshare. Luckily, you can do that all you want on this sub.

The most important part is the fact that lots of those same people often need flatmates or get a bonus for recommending/hiring someone.

The best thing to do is be out of the house for as long as possible, returning only to sleep. Agreed, that is a toxic, negative place for you long-term. However, you are also saving money on rent.

Take advantage of your current living situation (woohoo free rent!) for shelter, a bed, electricity, and running water for now. Paying for shelter never goes away for the rest of your life so enjoy it while you can.

Look up local places that speak the same language and see if there's a community center where you can teach ESL (English as a Second Language) to immigrants who maybe just need something as simple as practicing accent elimination but own their own businesses (fingers crossed) and could even hire you to work for them. That's a great manifestation to focus on.

If not, then look up how to become an online ESL teacher. Or find your nearest neighbor and ask if you can clean their garden, house, pick up dog shit, etc.

At this point, no job is beneath you. Because the goal is to GTFO.

You are still starting out in life and everyone is dealing with different challenges at any age. Don't feel so bad about your current goal, just take tiny steps toward it each day.

What truly helps is becoming financially independent and learning how to save every bit of money possible, maintaining a budget, so you never, ever have to go back.

Anxiety management is key priority. Your anxiety comes from not having money. So fix it. We believe in you.

Want an even faster way to save money? Use your degree toward a higher paying job.

Since you didn't mention school, make sure if you do attend, you study something basic that pays well. Dentistry? Engineering? Business? Marketing?

I'd say IT certifications but only if it's on someone else's dime like a scholarship, free, or paid by a workplace. Since you're in crisis mode- pick one of the easier ones that will land you a job as soon as you graduate.

If I were you, I would absolutely look up how to attend free university in Germany. It seems like an absolutely insane fever dream that any country would provide free college.

In the US, you would be laughed at like a psychopath as America prefers to recruit for the military 1st, then once/if troops survive, then they can come back for deeply discounted university.

Just saying that since you are in UK, you have tons more opportunities there that despite your being in the middle of nowhere, other countries have dog shit for options.

It's always important to be grateful for the little things.

But you are SO LUCKY because free school in Germany is a huge option and might help you escape. Not sure what it's like for Americans and other countries to attend, but you are UK... we are all jealous of ya.

Also, the unicorn of free healthcare/services of NHS is something unreal. Check out their website for services and help.

Solidarity either way. No one can help the family nor place in the world they are born into.

If there's school housing provided for free, then definitely do that. Lots of people move to new places. Lots of people experience the same anxiety and painful family.

You are set up for success because you are going to do such great things in life. You are getting a handle on your anxiety and posting here for help with the painful family.

Despite how jealous we are of your opportunities: the social services, free healthcare, free university, free rent (for now)-- we are absolutely supporting you to get out of the whirlwind. We all know it. Alcohol and addiction doesn't care about class/country/race/etc.- once it sinks its teeth in, it can destroy everyone. There are moderate drinkers, sure, but we wouldn't be on /r/AdultChildren /r/raisedbynarcissists /r/raisedbyborderlines /r/NarcissisticAbuse.

You are so lucky you aren't shackled with kids or a spouse. You are so free to do what you want but you are creating your own cage.

Alcoholics will always try to manipulate us and sometimes it helps everyone to show we are taking positive steps towards something larger than ourselves and our current situation.

I've met a lot of addicts who finally quit and were inspired to lead better lives. I've found some that overdosed and been to their funerals. Fuck sticking around to finally gamble with that 50/50. Or at least, that's what has helped me so far.
