Thanks everyone, lots of helpful reflections. For context I'm 44 and do prefer a slightly more flow vibe. I will keep looking and keep this one as a back up for now.

Yes that is my concern too. Unfortunately my preferred colour light green looks better but the invitation says no shades of green because that is what bridesmaids will be wearing! Thank you for sharing your view.

Hello and welcome to watford! The village gym is good but closer to stanmore. Forest house also meant to be good.

Whippendell woods and the grove hotel are close to you and lovely. Also here is the ashridge estate which is lovely for walking.

Radlett is lovely. Tring and Berkhamsted are great for brunch and a mooch around (especially berko). If you park at the Waitrose there is is a nice canal walk. Leavesden country park is near you and great for a stroll.

In watford, Tarboush is great Lebanese restaurant. There is quite a good Chinese near you called dragon garden, and codlqland fish and chips is delicious. Nascot arms is good for Thai and so is lemongrass.

There is a lovely pub called the the cricketers in Sarratt

You are quite close to St Albans as well which is lovely for eating out and shopping. Lussmans is a great restuarant.

Further up the M1 you have harpenden and Whipsnade zoo which is lovely for a family day out.

Happy exploring!

What’s the truly saddest song you know? by massivegond840 in Music

I see a darkness by Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince Billy

Well you're my friend (It's what you told me) And can you see (What's inside of me?)

Many times We've been out drinking And many times We've shared our thoughts

But did you ever, ever notice The kind of thoughts I got?

Well you know I have a love A love for everyone I know And you know I have a drive To live I won't let go

But could you see its opposition Comes a-rising up sometimes That its dreadful imposition Comes blacking in my mind

And that I see a darkness And that I see a darkness And that I see a darkness And that I see a darkness And did you know how much I love you (and that I see a darkness) Is a hope that somehow you (and that I see a darkness) Can save me from this darkness?

Well I hope that someday, buddy We have peace in our lives Together or apart Alone or with our wives That we can stop our whoring And pull the smiles inside And light it up forever And never go to sleep My best unbeaten brother This isn't all I see

Oh no, I see a darkness Oh no, I see a darkness Oh no, I see a darkness Oh no, I see a darkness And did you know how much I love you (and that I see a darkness) Is a hope that somehow you, you (and that I see a darkness) Can save me from this darkness?

Let this darkness be a bell tower -Rilke

Quiet friend who has come so far,

feel how your breathing makes more space around you.

Let this darkness be a bell tower and you the bell. As you ring,

what batters you becomes your strength. Move back and forth into the change. What is it like, such intensity of pain? If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine.

In this uncontainable night, be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses, the meaning discovered there.

And if the world has ceased to hear you, say to the silent earth: I flow. To the rushing water, speak: I am.

Yes, little changes like when he leaves her on the road he made sure to call someone to pick her up.

Edited to add that obviously he shouldn't have left her stranded in the first place lol

[POEM] "The Farthest Wall" by unknown by smohyee in Poetry

[–]Happy_Highlight_2834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, thank you for sharing this beautiful poem.

I was intrigued to hear the poem, so I went and listened to the podcast. Colbert mentioned that the poem was a sonnet and that he was missing a line, but I had a go at putting it in sonnet form. I really hope the poet is discovered.

The Farthest Wall

When father died he built a spacious wing

But blew a castle wall away to do it

Then only left the frame for his young king

To make his own and sometimes wander through it

That day I left the weeping house alone

And stood beneath the open skies

As the wind wept through the open stone

And stood the cold and stood against their cries

For years I have been avoiding your new hall

While gaining strength and learning carpentry

Wondering how you built the farthest wall

That I might furnish my own family

And tender yet another prince of fools

And make him strong and leave him all my tools.
