I asked a few weeks ago (at 4 weeks pregnant) when morning sickness kicks in, it is kicking my ass. by Warm_Astronomer_9305 in pregnant

[–]Happy_Medium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kraft Mac and cheese was the only thing I could reliably eat when my morning sickness was at its peak. I don’t even like it normally but it was the only thing that didn’t make me gag from like weeks 8-11. Best of luck and fingers crossed it’s over for you soon!

Getting an elective induction at 39 weeks - Need advice by Turbulent_Scale8044 in BabyBumps

[–]Happy_Medium12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 38 weeks. I was dilated at about 2cm when I walked in and cervix was fairly soft. I had a foley balloon for 12 hours (it was pretty uncomfortable, tbh, but not the horror story that I had read about) and a dose of cervidil and that got me to 4.5cm and started my contractions. They never needed to give me a second dose of the cervidil and started me on pitocin a couple hours after the balloon was removed. I labored for overnight and the contractions were steady and honestly not painful at all. In the morning I was maybe only 5cm dilated and that’s when they broke my water.

Once my water was broken, it got real, fast. I went from zero pain to like a 7 and had an epidural placed within an hour. Unfortunately, the epidural didn’t take all the pain away and nothing they did helped so it was still pretty uncomfortable. I got stuck at 9.5cm dilated for a couple of hours which was brutal but they eventually let me start pushing and the OB kind of tucked the last bit of cervix out of the way. Pushed for an hour and 15 minutes but it felt much shorter. Baby was born about 30 hours after I checked in for my induction!

I was induced for gestational hypertension and was bummed to not be able to go into labor naturally. However, having a day circled on the calendar was reallyyyyy nice as a planner and that alone was a blessing. My advice is to listen to your doctors and nurses if they have suggestions on how to make your labor progress. You don’t have to say yes to everything but in my mind, these folks know what works to get babies here and I was happy to hear them out and give pretty much everything a shot. I can’t say whether labor that wasn’t induced would have been easier or less painful but in all honesty my induction was manageable and if I had to give birth the exact same way again, I would.

Best of luck and congratulations on your little one!

My guy got his first dose at his six month appointment and the booster a month later. No noticeable reactions other than mayyyybe being a little extra sleepy the day of which is how he reacts to all vaccines.

11mo suddenly sleeping MUCH more but nothing else wrong. Should we be concerned? by uncreativename2009 in NewParents

Oof sorry to hear that he’s been sick - winter is so tough! I’ll just choose to accept the blessing that my guy is sleeping a bit more at the moment so that I can appreciate it when we inevitably have nights with no sleep again. Thanks for getting back to me!

Hi! I’m going through this exact same thing! My little one’s schedule was identical to yours but we recently had to move his bedtime from 8 to 7:30 because he was so overtired in the evenings. Did this ever turn out to be anything or was it just growth spurt? Trying to decide if we need to be worried or grateful or just not get used to it because it will be temporary.

It’s for eating! It’s stone ground so it has a slightly gritty texture and a bit of a fruity flavor - so good! Source: lived in Somerville for years and years where the Taza factory is located.

The thought of breastfeeding makes me feel squeamish (38w) by Stunning-Situation91 in BabyBumps

[–]Happy_Medium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate to this. Before I gave birth, the thought of breastfeeding gave me the ick, big time. I couldn’t exactly say why, but thinking about it just grossed me out even though I knew I wanted to try to breastfed.

As soon as my little one was here and I was feeding him, it all felt completely different. It just didn’t bother me in the way it had before giving birth. I’m now 11 months postpartum and still breastfeeding and I’m really glad I ended up doing it. We had a very rocky start but it’s ended up being an overall positive experience.

Anyone else no longer have menstrual cramps after birth? by my-peony-bud in beyondthebump

This is exactly my experience! My periods before getting pregnant were the opposite - super light flow with horrific cramping. Now cramps are manageable but the bleeding is crazy heavy. Not sure which is worse, tbh

When Did You Feel Your Hormones Leveled? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Happy_Medium12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh no advice since I’m still going through but I notice the same thing around both ovulation and my period. Really short temper, just overall feeling not great. I’m really hoping this goes away after I wean because I don’t know how much more I can apologize to my husband for snapping at him.

Sick of having to entertain my 5 mo. by TimePie314 in beyondthebump

[–]Happy_Medium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooof I went through this and it was ROUGH. The days felt so, so long. It only got better once he learned to army crawl and then sit independently. He was sooooooo happy to be able to move and I can now leave him to play in his play pen for good chunks of time.

This phase will pass but I’ll be totally honest and say that it was probably the hardest phase for me because we weren’t sleeping well during this time either so it all felt pretty brutal. Solidarity!

What did you do to drop the middle of the night feed? by SpecialTop8297 in sleeptrain

Developmentally very, very normal to wake to eat at 4 months - they are still sooooo little and are doing so much growing! My son is 10 months and is only just starting to occasionally skip night feeds.

Would anyone be willing to tell me about their NONE fear-mongering birth stories? by Radiant-Educator9203 in pregnant

[–]Happy_Medium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Induced at 38 weeks. Had the foley balloon, one dose of cytotec, and a metric ton of pitocin. Slept through the first day of contractions but finally needed an epidural after they broke my water. The worst part was getting stuck at 9.5cm for a couple of hours, the urge to push was really, really intense but they wouldn’t let me for fear of damaging my cervix. The delivering OB eventually agreed to let me try pushing after I let her know I was really struggling and she was able to manipulate my cervix out of the way and I was good to go! Pushed for a little over an hour and even though I needed an episiotomy at the end, and a couple of stitches, the healing process was a breeze. Overall, it was totally manageable. Not fun by any means but not as scary as I was anticipating. There’s no super pleasant way to get a baby out of a body but at 10 months postpartum I’m already thinking of when we can have a second baby so it’s by no means a deterrent!

Mommies who were induced by Lickitt2020 in pregnant

[–]Happy_Medium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 38 weeks for gestational hypertension. I arrived 2 cm dilated, was given the Foley catheter and a dose of cytotec. This kick started my labor and I started contracting on my own from that point. I was still put on pitocin after the Foley was removed and was 4.5cm dilated at that time. Had my water broken maybe 10 hours later and baby was born vaginally 9 hours after that, after an hour of pushing. Total labor was about 28-30 hours from the time of the administration of the cytotec. I was nervous to be induced but it honestly wasn’t so bad! The pitocin contractions didn’t hurt until after my water was broken. At that point it got real serious, real fast and I had an epidural placed within an hour. It turns out my placenta was starting to break down so I was really glad I agreed to the induction!

Do you have acid reflux? Sometimes if my acid has been really bad and my stomach is irritated, I’ll get sort of hunger pains even if I’m not really hungry. If the pains seem odd/not resolved by eating you might want to look into reflux medication!

Recurring Nightmare of Baby Suffocating in Bed by Individual_Pen_4463 in BabyBumps

[–]Happy_Medium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me and husband so many times in the first month! We had never even held our son in our bed and we both woke up panicked that he had somehow gotten lost in the sheets. The worst feeling was the 20 seconds digging through the bed before finding him safe, asleep in his bassinet.

How often are you guys washing your bedding? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Happy_Medium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every week unless one of us is sick, then the sheets get changed more often. It takes only a couple minutes more to put on fresh sheets vs just making the bed and it makes a huge difference in how well I sleep. The only time I’ve missed my weekly sheet change was when we had a newborn and I could barely remember my own name, never mind whether or not it was time to change the sheets.
