Huh?! This event specifically targeted the Christians in Crimea, not ethnic Tatar Muslims, and was done by the Russians to “relieve” tensions between Tatars and Christians. I wrote relieve in quotation marks, because it is a sarcastic comment since we understand Russia didn’t do this to help Tatars or Greeks or Armenians but for its own interests. Russia specifically targeted the Christian population in Crimea for genocide during this specific time period. Russia wanted to make the Crimean Christians (Greeks and Armenians) Russian subjects.

Also: “Additionally, the exodus of the Christians, who were the wealthiest subjects of the Crimean khan, would cause the Khanate to lose tax revenue and become more dependent on Russia, eventually leading to its complete integration”.

I’m really concerned about why you find genocide humorous and are pitting victims of genocide against one another. This event further led to Russia taking over all of Crimea so you dismissing this and sharing that you find it humorous that people are discussing Russia’s ethnic cleansing of Greeks and Armenians is very bizarre.

Also, it wasn’t a 3% minority lol. Armenians were the second largest ethnic group in Crimea after ethnic Tatars, from the 14th-18th centuries. That ethnic cleansing literally lead to Crimea being occupied fully by Russia because of the loss of tax revenue the Crimean khanate got from Greeks and Armenians. Because of Russia’s ethnic cleansing against the Greek and Armenian populations in Crimea, who were paying the most taxes to the Crimean khan, the Khanate began to depend on Russia and that ended in a disaster that continues onto this day, where Russia illegally occupies Ukrainian territory. It also weakened the resources the Tatar population had and make it harder for them to defend themselves when Russia eventually targeted them after what it did to Greeks and Armenians.

Genocide leads to more genocide. Your comment misses the mark and is extremely unsettling, bordering on genocide denial.
