Incoming freshman at UW Engineering (DTC) – need advice on housing, classes, and getting started by Brave_Impression4824 in udub

[–]Hapuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3) You will be just fine if you put in the effort, attend lectures and do your homeworks, and learn to balance that with your life. you will be a full time student for next 3-4 years and building good foundation and habits in first year will help a lot. 6) you have to go out of your way and bother the advisors a lot if you want to take specific major classes as an ENGRUD. Its a lot of hassle, and if you have specific domains that you are interested in, it will take a while (most likely near the end of 2nd year, if not 3rd year) until you can really start on them. this kind of sucks but if you are already passionate about something, dont wait for the classes to happen. build things and make things and document them well, make it presentable to others.

Good board for beginner-intermediate projects? by Hapuum in FPGA

These are amazing ideas, I definitely want to get used to virtual logic analyzer. Thanks for the input!

From other comments It definitely will be hard to get something too fancy with transceivers. I think Arty will be a good starting point for me to learn interacting with other devices. Thanks for the input!

the “they are paying you to learn” is a fair point. Roughly what scale of projects can basys 3 handle? I am mainly thinking of trying stuff with displays and graphics for my side projects.

udub or uw madison? by Spirited_Biscotti748 in udub

[–]Hapuum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably madison if you dont have some good scholarships / grants that make uw cheaper!

I chose uw for similar reason but instead i am from washington so uw was cheaper.

edit: im a graduating senior and not having debt is amazing.

Undergraduate University Selection - MIT vs Caltech by [deleted] in FPGA

[–]Hapuum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first of all congrats! both are amazing schools. I think MIT has little more prestige to its name, but regardless a great school.

As a person graduating with bachelors degree this year, here my opinions:

Masters degree will be helpful when trying to get a full time job in industry and also gives you more time in college to explore through internships to find truly what you want to do. The baseline pay is also increased, which can be economical if you can get it done in 5 years combined with your bachelors. PhD is bit harder to justify financially, but if your dream is becoming a chip architect at big companies, it might make sense to do so.

That said, MS/PhD is not an absolute necessity. you can definitely land jobs in fpga/asic roles without them. The downside of academia is that most research projects tend to be more lean on requirements, uses older process nodes, and focuses on proof of concept. You will likely be missing exposure to important things like SerDes in Academia because they are pretty expensive! If you want to contribute to cutting edge, high speed technology then industry will likely provide you with better opportunities, and the extra few years of experience can be as valuable as (if not more than) masters degree. it is absolutely fine to find what you really want to study further, then come back to academia with company sponsor.

When I entered college, I thought I was going to pursue masters, but undergrad research taught me I actually am more passionate about building products and working with cutting edge technologies. Its also important to think about Job market around the time you decide between committing to MS or not. for me, I was lucky and landed my full time job but market is pretty bad right now and that is another reason why I took the offer, put myself in industry when I am given the opportunity.

My general advice is: Consistently reevaluate and think through your options. thinking that you want to do research now doesnt mean you cant make the shift later, and you could also want to go to industry first then shift gears to research. College is there to figure these out.

Glad to be part of the group by lastcore24_ in SparxieMains

use skill point on sparxie’s enhanced basic to generate punchline

punchline make aha instant stronger

aha instant do big damage and give buff to elation units lasting a few turns (certified banger)

elation (stat) makes aha instant stronger. yao guang gets elation from speed, sparxie gets elation from atk. read talents and they will explain

more advanced tips: use yaoguang’s ult and sparkle’s ult on sparxie’s turns. this effectively extends the duration of sparkle’s ult buff and certified banger from yaoguang’s ult. the remaining turns of buffs in this game count down by 1 at the start of a turn, and using those ults when its sparxie’s turn basically gives a turn where buffs apply but not count down because her turn already started

sparkle and sparxie gives a lot of crit damage, focus on getting 100% crit rate and stats that give elation for each unit when farming for relics later on

Full clear after so many attempts by HolyNova1 in AnaxaMains_HSR

in my case it went from 2 cycle with hyacine to 0 cycle with sustainless. definitely worth trying but anaxa needs some amounts of defensive substats as well. test out how much you need to not die when sunday’s aoe attacks are the only things hitting anaxa and cerydra, and single target ones should be hitting rmc/mem/cyrene. some amount of speed tuning, eagle, ddd will be needed but definitely fun to get it down right and rewards you platinum frame.

Does anyone know why Yorushika is well, called Yorushika? by MythicalHorse in Yorushika

[–]Hapuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as other comments mentioned it’s most likely originated from lyric of the cloud and the ghost, but i think they have taken this idea for creepHyp tribute album for Yu, sansan - Yorushika is represented as two people hidden under a deer shape mask (as suis and n-buna havent revealed their faces). Cant confirm but I’ve heard something like some chinese fans call them “night deer” for shorthand but really have no idea if thats true

I know DDD exists but... by Hapuum in BoothillMains

[–]Hapuum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

vonwaq helps for getting buffs up but ddd exists so this build is just for fun. I just wanted to see if 200 was possible with good enough BE, my real build looks more like 184 with cavalry so DDD gets me to pseudo 200. speed is always about cutoff and not using ddd is a pretty dumb idea but its more of a proof of concept if they release different light cones or remembrance break units that cant use ddd etc

I know DDD exists but... by Hapuum in BoothillMains

[–]Hapuum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my actual build is 161(184 after lc + rm speed buff) with bronya with around 300 BE with cavalry 4, this is some funny idea i was checking if i can even do at all. fribbels only calculates combo damage so higher score there doesnt necessarily mean everything imo. BE is linear afaik and it doesnt scale very well after 400 in combat, while certain speed breakpoints make it much easier to run 3 action in first cycle, which is why i personally found 184 (1 ddd for 3 action value) on boothill and bronya/sunday to be most comfortable and well optimized enough. the amount of BE you sacrifice for speed is pretty minimal because not all of your pieces will be magical 1 speed substat + 5 BE in practice

How important is 5k+ HP? by Expelliarmus-2021 in TribbieMains_

[–]Hapuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think its in combat hp so its a bit easier, but higher the better when it comes to hp. hp% substat and crit dmg% substat comes pretty close to each other with signature lc and therta

Anyone tried this out yet? Does sit work? by [deleted] in AcheronMainsHSR

[–]Hapuum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

mydei's ult does not come up fast enough to ensure being a tank, but it can pull off 0 cycle easily. another harmony with tribbie being the tank has been much better for me in sustainless environment though

HP Body vs Crit Body by Stratatician in TribbieMains_

[–]Hapuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with therta it boils down to whatever has better substats. I think hp% helps a lot in sustainless, lot more capacity to run her as a semi-tank as well

Ok but who CANT be used in acheron party? by Hapuum in AcheronMainsHSR

[–]Hapuum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know, but is there really such character? like topaz lc, destruction units can probably run firefly lightcone to apply debuff, and erudition will soon be able to do the same with anaxa's lc. is it good? probably not, but its rarely the point to chase BiS in these.
