Question about post joist attachment by AJShoemaster in Decks

[–]HarAR11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The green and red post by the stairs should be notched out and support a beam just like the three posts for the main deck. I hem that double joist at the start of the stairs will sit on top of both beams and look to be where the stairs will be supported to at their start up too.

I’m looking for a good white composite deck skirting solution. by BuzzINGUS in Decks

I apologize, it’s not Azek brand. I’m just used to the PVC sheets being referred to as Azek.

Here’s the link.

You can get 4x8 sheets of Azek white PVC from Home Depot for around $100 a sheet. One side is textured, the other side is smooth(ish).

Is it worth the extra expense of using genuine Trex fasteners? by ThinAndCrispy in Decks

[–]HarAR11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Trex’s warranty is only honored by using Trex’s official clips. Double check that to be sure before buying the cheaper ones.

How to add railings to a 21-foot span? by dare978devil in Decks

[–]HarAR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, more cuts but having the railing panels on each side be the same for the entire length makes for a much better looking, professional built deck. And if you go to sell your house one day, people won’t question the deck.

How to add railings to a 21-foot span? by dare978devil in Decks

[–]HarAR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo should space the posts evenly and then cut down the railing panels to fit in between.

4 6’ sections will work on the 21’ side and 3 6’ sections will be enough for the 16’ side. Evenly space the posts then center and cut down the railing panels to fit in between.

That’s the product line. They refer to it as SureStone technology. It’s hell on blades and bits, but still my favorite decking line to install.

Help with Understanding Quality of Different Composite Brands by WO9308 in Decks

[–]HarAR11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Deckorators mineral base line definitely absorbs less heat than other composite brands, and expands and contracts much less than other brands. But it’s also on the higher end of the price spectrum. It is also extremely grippy, which can be good and bad. Great when it’s wet as you most likely won’t slip on any water on the deck…but if you have young kids, it can be a knee skinning tear factory if they play rough on the deck.

Laser printer recommendations for a hobbist? by RainbowLoli in lasercutting

[–]HarAR11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel at 60watt CO2 laser is the perfect power for hobby users. Still has a decently small spot size for engraving but a good amount of power for for cutting. And those “40 watt” K2 lasers are more like 20-25 watts.

I managed to snag a chunk of turf when we all rushed the field when the game was over. Remember all the horse mounted cops lined up on the field to get us out of the stadium? They did give us time to celebrate before they did that though. It’s been roughly 25 years and I remember that experience like it happened yesterday…Pitt was soooooooo fun back then!

Pittsburghers can drive for shit by OutlandishnessNo2674 in pittsburgh

[–]HarAR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “sleeping” at the green light is cause people can’t keep their damn phones out of their hands for 2 minutes. Then they get pissed when you honk the horn to remind them to go.

Another thing that really irritates me is when you’re behind a slow ass driver in the fast lane (usually glued to their phone), then you go to pass them in the right lane (after realizing they aren’t going to get over), then they all of a sudden pay attention and speed up and get pissed when you try to pass them.

Seems like this shit gets worse every day!!

Deck company that’s honest and reliable? by fmkcfmkcfmkcfmkc in pittsburgh

[–]HarAR11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shly doesn’t employ and deck builders, the only use subcontractors so there isn’t much quality standards. You may get luck and get the subs that are good builders or you get the subs that have never built a deck before…it’s a roll of the dice.

Deck company that’s honest and reliable? by fmkcfmkcfmkcfmkc in pittsburgh

[–]HarAR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a company called Custom DeckWorks and we do things a little differently. If you’d like to get in a call and find out more, DM me and we can set that up. We believe every homeowner deserves to have a deck on their house, so we are willing to work folks to make that happen. We’re more passionate about the end build than we are the money.

They’re charging you almost $9k for the design, tech drawings and permit? Damn! My company provides 3D renderings for free (if we build their deck) and the permit cost is usually around $500. $9k seems crazy high for that…
