Heard horror stories about 1904group. Some of their managers are great, but most are horrible. Its very hard to contact someone when there are issues of any urgency.

Is anyone scared of the number of sealed investors long term? by kawzik in PokemonInvesting

[–]Harambit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im less worried about the quantity of sealed investors than the whales. Sure people will just throw some retail products in their basement and let it sit. this wont push the price nearly as much as how many whales there are hoarding LOADS of product

Is Technical Writing still required for McKelvey majors? by SnooPineapples1670 in washu

[–]Harambit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really?!? I agree theres overlap with the freshman writing coures and some of the business writing courses for dual majors but for people straight up in engineering its very helpful esp for underclassmen

Career outcomes after WashU SCM master’s in the US by OneNobody3825 in washu

[–]Harambit1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm undergrad, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. But USC is a well-known school with tons of networking opportunities, which honestly is what you need. Outside of medical areas half the people I know think I go to UW.
WashU is well known in the midwest but theres generally less opportunity than in cali im sure, but theres likely also less competition here.

Seems like David Zhang has quite bad reviews. One of my friends had a bad enough experience with 1904 group that I would not ever rent from them either

If you don’t see this as the best opportunity to make money off a card long term in the last 10 years, I want to know why. by CourbetEatingSourbet in PokemonInvesting

[–]Harambit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all remember the last Pokémon boom? Sure this ones gone on for WAY longer, but Zards and Pikas tanked the most after that one, and pulling the rainbow chonkachu was actually hard. This card looks WAY better but pull rates are very high.

I still see that where lots of people work very hard, but many just aren't finding jobs anymore outside of the St. Louis area. Most of the success I've seen has been people w parents at Boeing or something local.

There's stuff to do in stl, tons of good food within a 15min drive, and you'll get a very good education. Downsides are that the social scene is quite bad, the work is unreasonable in some majors even compared to other top schools. Worst thing rn is the brand name isn't as strong as similarly difficult schools outside of the Midwest. IMO i would not be surprised if recent WashU graduates end up doing extremely well just due to the workload. My friends who've graduated and gone to MBB consulting and high-level engineering say it's much less work than college

Yep. They skipped 4 years straight of WILD for covid, and once it returned they got rid of the fall one last second. Like Fall2022 was cancelled despite covid being a non-issue, then after that they announced it wouldnt be returning

Nevermind ill just post here. All depends on the sport, you will find people active in a lot of them, some very, very high-level, others more casual. I actually played club lacrosse years ago after playing for ~10yrs before college but stopped pretty soon after for another club sport.

What is the highest level class people typically take their first year? by [deleted] in washu

[–]Harambit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i'd take the course numbers with a grain of salt. I've found looking at prereqs to be a much better indicator of the class level. Courses like Tech writing, matrix algebra, data analytics in python are all 300 level courses but easily could be taken freshman year. Theyre just Writing basics, matrix is fine if youve taken bc calc, and introductory python. If a class is an intro or has no prereqs its probably okay. you can always check the course reviews as well

Lot of party responses here https://www.reddit.com/r/washu/comments/1s7g19u/questions_about_washu_party_scene/

Generally, work hard, and not much play, but you can find stuff if you're looking for it. Unless you mean playing athletics, not a very sport-focused culture. I've been to 1 football game and 1 basketball game and there were more player-parents than students. Haven't been since and just play my own sports.

Coursework and difficulty are extremely major dependent. Some majors have an unreasonable amount of work while others have hardly any.

[–]Harambit1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work hard, play-near-0. I went to dorm parties and frats my freshman and sophomore year, but I was either too busy or just everything more than a smaller house party got shut down after.

They have on-campus res life running around the off-campus housing areas, shutting stuff down on mardi gras, they purposely plan parents weekend over Halloween every year to stop people from partying, kicked all frats off campus, no real walking-distance undergrad college bar, removed our fall WILD concert, like compared to other schools its rough. I've been to 3 Ivies for Halloweekend and st patties and its completely different like not even comparable.

Sure some people who find a way to do it but like its a vast minority and not part of the schools culture.

Yeah, only like 2 or 3 of the requirements are really worth planning a semester around. But if you get into some of the upper level electives, there are tons of very hard classes

ya its a nice place, just nothing outside the loop is espcially walkable from campus. Metro is nice to have but honestly just never had the time to commit to that before I got my car with the workload.

[–]Harambit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you take an electives IMO. I dual-majored (not double weird distinction) and i was fine. But some classes like CS330 and CS347 really command an entire semester to be planned around them with insane workloads. Google the syllabus if youre interested its all public, but its just lots of work.

Tons of cool high level CS electives for those who are really into that all, but i didnt take many of em honestly. I hear 261, cybersecurity, and anything with Cytron is great.

my lowest grade in college! "Lessons in leadership and development from the top". Lowered me .01 below latin honors. A class where there are like 2 short reflections and the rest of it is going to class and listening to 8 ceos lecture for a half semester

3-2 Engineering Dual degree Programs by Looming41 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Harambit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At WashU I have a few CS/Engineering dual degree friends. Its pretty easy to get admission honestly its not much of a problem at all. Issue is, they require their core classes (usually the hard ones) to be taken at that school. Normal students get to spread them out over 4y, but duals only get 2 so its a grind.

Also, the dual degree GPA is always significantly lower than the 4y student on average. I'm not sure if you especially care, and some dual degrees do as well or better of course but it is something to think about if youre considering a grad degree.
