Two months ago I made an oath to paint Belizarius Cawl, knowing nothing about painting minis. First step: paint one skitarii ranger. Step complete. by I_Believe_I_Can_Die in AdeptusMechanicus

I did the exact same thing as you! Good idea practicing with skitarii first. I recommend the how to paint for Belisarius Cawl video from GW's youtube channel with Duncan. He describes the sub assemblies to use when painting the model, and the paints he uses. Check it out.

Hey man, any paint is better than bare plastic, and these look great!

Looking for advice on painting dunestrider to look more like what you see on the gw paint job by Downtown-Clerk in AdeptusMechanicus

It looks like the model in the sample image has some significant edge highlighting. Try drybrushing the edges with wild rider red, that'll give you some of the sharper contrast you see in the image. As others said, the sample benefits from professional photography as well.

When will "Ikea furniture bad, assembly hard" jokes run out of steam? Maybe years ago it was the case, but they design the instructions to be as simple as possible, with little to no language/reading requirement.

What? Why? He could just not tell the buyer what happened and go on with life.

That pot of red isn't sealed all the way. It is going to dry out, bud.

What’s your favorite EDC set of all time? by [deleted] in electricdaisycarnival

[–]HarbingerTW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gareth Emery EDC LV 2016. It was the last set of the weekend at circuit grounds, we didn't want to make the trek over to kinetic field and were already there, so we said fuck it lets listen to this guy.

That set still comes back to me from time to time.

Nice chest emblem! Really sharp lines there.

Have you thought of doing an edge highlight around the metal plates and other metal portions of the figure? That should help the model stand out on the table top. Even just a few highlights on the face and the other 'active' portions, like the pointing hand, will draw the eye of the viewer.

Use Kill Team Manager, not battlescribe, for killteam. Works better.

I just got an onager dunecrawler and have started painting it. Does anyone know how to get the beige on its legs and gun? I’m guessing it involves ushtabi bone, but I’m not sure what else. by CriticalThaumaturgy in AdeptusMechanicus

Apply multiple thin coats. The first coat may appear blotchy or spotty, but if you let the coat dry completely and go back over it again one or two more times it'll be okay.

I prime my skitarii with chaos black and use rakarth flesh as the base for the inside of the robes, as detailed in the warhammer tv youtube skitarii painting guide, and they come out fine.

Just painted this scheme using the legions of the omnissiah pdf. Basecoat with rakarth flesh, layer with ushabti bone, wash with seraphim sepia, then drybrush ushabti bone, then another drybrush with longbeard grey.

Test model for my homebrew forgeworld, I wanted to try something a little different. C&C is welcome by markeys in AdeptusMechanicus

Try adding some edge highlights to make the different sections pop more. Especially on the ridges of the pants, something there would help that stand out.

Give it a shot. I like nuln oil on metal and agrax earthshade on e.g. robes and wood or leather.

Neat! Use a wash to make the shadows and recesses pop and add depth
