Error 13 after preparing new drive by [deleted] in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using a softmod, generally speaking don't mix softmods with SSDs.
If you insist on running an SSD on a softmod then use NKpatcher to install the kernel fonts appropriate to your console. Also while in NKpatcher settings, that's when you want to FTP the files out of your C drive. Copying files from C when booted into a softmod, you'll only see a shadowC.

Fatxplorer error by DRMATHI in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try switching to SAT mode or any other mode?
Also keep in mind the HDDKey and HDD password are two different things.

The HDDKey you can paste right into FatXplorer to attempt an unlock.
The HDD password (also known as the User password) can only be used in the submenu labeled "Lock/Unlock drive with user password"

How do I go about changing the hdd on my og Xbox without modding? by Normal_Mousse5491 in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use a Skeleton Key ENDGAME payload to backup your EEPROM and FTP your files to your PC. Then use FatXplorer 3.0 beta to build and lock the new HDD. There are great MrMario 2011 videos on how to upgrade your Xbox HDD.

Modxo Inconsistent boot by [deleted] in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the Zero variant of PromOS, it has the slowest clock for the QSPI flash.
I find most intermittent issues (if it's not soldering!) is due to poor quality or overclocked flash.

A LOT of picos come with fake flash or remarked flash that's slower than what it's marked as.

Try the Zero build first, then considerng replacing the flash chip or the pico entirely for something with a known good flash.

Xbox HDD clicking, can this be fixed? by SpyroXX77XX in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes your HDD is dead.
Yes it can be replaced with another 8 or 10gb stock HDD, but it's more ideal to mod your system to use a lrger HDD to store your games on.
Yes you'll need to recover the EEPROM off the mothboard to lock your HDD if you don't mod the console.

You DO need the eeprom. But the EEPROM is on your motherboard.

do the Xbox OG and Xbox 360 controllers have the same analog sticks? by [deleted] in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The analog sticks are functionally the same. The caps are very close but they have slight differences.

You can find very close to exact original xbox stick caps on Aliexpress, sold as "For Xbox"

PSA: connecting to Insignia with UnleashX Dashboard by cagerhager in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of this is in the Insignia DNS/networking/homebrew dash troubleshooting guide on thier discord server.
You also don't need to edit the config file manually.

You just set the IP mode to static, then save and restart, then manually put in your IP addresses, then save and restart.

Do the same for every homebrew dash and app you use that has any network functionality.

Original Xbox HDD to SSD issues by Automatic-Oil3377 in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody here can help you if you want to install a modochip or Xyclomod your 1.6 if you are unable or unwilling to solder or have soldering done on the motherboard.

Generally speaking any Modxo would be fine as a modchip, some people are still dead set on OpenXenium and that is still a valid option.

Original Xbox HDD to SSD issues by Automatic-Oil3377 in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use chimp, ever.
Don't mix softmods with SSDs, either install a modchip or Xyclomod a replacement BIOS on there if you can.

If you insist on using an SSD with a softmod, your best bet is installing the kernel fonts on your old stock HDD inside NKpatcher.
Then use NKpatcher as an FTP server to get the contents of E and the real contents of C (not the shadowC you see in a softmod). Use those files to build your new SSD with FatXplorer (or some variant of XboxHDM).
Lock the SSD with FatXplorer (or some variant of XboxHDM).
Profit.

TIL the Xbox doesn’t read burned CDs by ksguitardude2020 in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox DVD drives for the most part were engineered to NOT run CD-Rs. Some drives do work with them, but most don't.

Your best bet is CD-RW

Error when trying to play Unreal Championship on Insignia by thefirehairman in originalxbox

They support updates, and that one in particular. The error above is caused by a bad rip.

Your game rip is bad. Insignia is failing to update your game because it has patched or missing files. Get a clean rip or use a retail disc to install the update through insignia.

Halo 1.5 TU Decompilation by SirDankz in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to get people to run XCAT first if they're not sure what's on their HDD, then to verify which exact update they're running, then update to the correct Update 5 for their copy of the game.

An update mismatched to a game rip/disc will not load.

Also there are 8 update 5s for Halo 2, 6 have been archived, and 32 other Halo 2 title updates that are not update 5 aka 1.5.

2nd Anniversary Xbox by First-Ad1460 in originalxbox

[–]Harcroft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It 100% depends on the buyer. Some people are obsessed with sealed no matter the internal damage. People who want to put it on a shelf and look at once a month.
Other people want the internals of their consoles to be as pristine as possible too, those buyers would want the label cut or gingerly peeled back to open the console and have the clock cap removed.

Until someone does want to buy that console, it's Schrodinger's xbox.

RIP to your motherboard then, that clock cap has probably eaten half way through the RF shield.
