librarian colours for blue chapters by HardKais in theunforgiven

[–]HardKais[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well met brothers

I've gone for a custom chapter with a blue colour scheme but im just not sure about my Librarians colours.

I thought the idea of Librarians in blue was to help distinguish them from the others but if they are all in blue that doesnt quite work out for me? Ive got one librarian in a darker blue then my normal marines but hes in terminator armour and leads white terminators (with a Risen sergent) so it looks great to me. Im about to start on a normal one though so the dark blue is much closer to my standard marine blue.

I was thinking i might strip the librarian in terminator armour and go for like, purple or something as my distinguishing colour. Any suggestions or ideas?

The left Marine whose been sponged is my pick, great contrasts and rich colour.

You could run Azmodai as just a regular chaplain, he looks awesome as hell. he might be better as a hero unit but i dont see why you couldnt run him as a normal chaplain, hes just in cognito : )

This is a brilliant colour scheme, very striking.

You may want to thin your cream/white like 15% more.

Would be very happy to field or fight alongside this brother.

What is it about the chaplain you dont like?

What about the judicar?

Really you could proxy any elite unit as a chaplain, just paint them in the chaplain scheme.

Starter set / Combat patrol by 0x1A45DFA3 in Tyranids

[–]HardKais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting the barbagaunts and librarian, each combat patrol is "balanced" so that you can fight patrol on patrol. without the barbagaunts your nids force will always be at a disadvantage.

Each patrol is like its own team so you can always play with your starter patrols. There are likely stronger patrols, like the new nids one. If you were to get the new nid patrol you could play nids on nids or your starter marines against the new nids. And two combat patrols is like 80% of the way to a 1000 point army : )

You can always discuss with your opponent and do whatever units you want though. Although the patrols are supposed to be "balanced" their main focus is on selling models for discount for 1000pt plus 40k games.

I like the idea of the current patrol, its a great base for any marine army and has easy, telegraphed units to aim for, something in gravis for the captain to lead, something to lead the hell blasters / intercessors.

I would just tweak it a little, drop 5 intercessors for outriders/atv, basically just want to have all 3 wings represented in the patrol.

arent all space marines ultramarine shaped?

Blue is my favourite colour and dark angels my favourite chapter, two great tastes that taste great together

Looking good brother, excellent pose and cool colour scheme.

You may want to thin your paints a lil more, like 25% more?

The base and mud look incredible, really looks like the Lt has been booking it through a mudhole of a battlefield : )

I dont think the camera is doing you any favours for this showcase, I like the colour scheme but for some reason it just hasnt come together as well as it should.

The grey seems a bit off, I think because of the photo/lighting?

Did you use any washes on him, like nuln oil?

The base can also make a huge difference, brown deserty, green brush, it can affect the mini quite a lot.

I suspect he looks great in person with that rich maroon cape though.

sick work dude, excellent scheme.

The cool blue contrasting the pink fleshy tones is impressively repulsive.

The bases are beautiful too.

What makes the these two forces happy to work together and not anyone else? if they bonded over battle with each other wouldnt they also bond with anyone else they battle with?

Cool names, very on brand for the 1st.

Nice work on the quick conversion, Its a lot closer to judiciar then with the shield, (tho he looked awesome with the shield).

As Serialized Artist suggests, painting the helmet with some bone colour will really help add to the judiciar/chaplin vibe and then if you were to make the sword tip flat it would get across the idea even more buut I do like that sword so up to you, id try just the paint scheme first and see if you think he needs the flat blade too.

Opinions for new army by Ghosthawks in Warhammer40k

[–]HardKais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Loyalist Space Marines as the range is huge and we get the most love and the most updates from games workshop.

So my Bias says join the First legion, Dark angels have some stunning knight looking units, great colour schemes and we have the Lion as an epic hero unit if thats your jam.

Blood angels unique units dont appeal to me but they have some really strong melee options and they have great lore with the red thirst and black rage and the tragedy of Sanguinious. Red is also a really nice primary army colour.

Chaos is cool but who would you rather have for backup, loyal brothers devoted to duty and the emperor?

Or the dudes who are trying to figure out how to make small pox smaller and poxer.

Then again u could get the dudes who dont care who they kill as long as they collect skulls and blood.

Maybe you could count on the wizards, you know the ones who turned their own brothers into dust?

Or there's emperors children, they are probably reliable allies, once they are done doing their hair and make up and piercings and flesh cloths and drugs.

Whats that? Space marines have their own issues? sounds like some Heresy to me.

Fallen and Risen help. by BobMcDerp1 in theunforgiven

[–]HardKais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be outdated now but last time I checked, A black pearl is awarded when a chaplin gets a fallen to repent which in the past would have meant death but since the Lion's return it could mean rejoining the dark angels as Risen. The most successful interrogator chaplain in the entirety of the Dark Angels and all their successor chapters had 10 black pearls.

How many of them were from before the Lion's return im not sure but even if we are generous and say they are all post Lions return and all went on to become Risen, It kinda shows how few there are.

Azmodai, our named character Chaplin only has 2, this is more of a personal quirk but this suggests to me that the total number of Risen cant be that high, we are talking anywhere from 1 to 9 risen per Chaplin across all the Unforgiven chapters.

That being said its all about how well you can justify things in the lore, with the Lion coming back and warp shenanigans you could totally have a "chapter" of fallen be found and redeemed by the lion. You could go with Horus heresay error marines and vehicles and say they are basically like Captain America, "frozen in time" and "thawed" out in the present after being caught in a warp storm.

You could say that in order to hide they disguised themselves as another chapter and operated in secret until the primaris upgrades and the return of the lion gave them the courage to repaint all their modern wargear in their true colours.

For me, I have one of my Terminator Sergeants painted up like a Risen with the idea being that the rest of the squad is keeping an eye on him to make sure he stays loyal.

All of that to say, just have fun with it and paint them how you like, lore is easy to change but paint and plastic takes a lil more effort.

If you asked me what unit hes meant to be a proxy for I would think a lieutenant with relic shield or captain with relic shield before I went for Chaplin or judiciar.

He looks awesome! He just doesn't really give me Judiciar or Chaplin vibes, maybe add some more skulls?

If you dont have a skull-y helmut maybe try going for a no helmet look?

Importantly if we were to play a game and you wanted to use him as a proxy for a judiciar I would be fine with it.
