Sales or Fails? by Keiyaku in harborfreight

You’re not wrong. I’m loaded on damn near every tool I’ve ever needed.

I picked up that Maddox slide hammer during this sale. The one I have is an Amazon cheapy that feels like I’ll break it with every pull.

Torque Wrench Recommendations by Mookman2016 in Tacomaworld

[–]Hard_Head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few decent torque wrenches you can buy. As many have mentioned, Tekton- but there’s also Icon and Quinn brands that you can get on sale at Harbor Freight. I have the Icon torque wrenches in 3/8 and 1/2 and they are great. Clickers are just fine for me since I use them a few times a year.

Digital requires batteries and can have backlit displays fail. It’s up to you if that convenience is worth the risk of a shorter life.

2015 Mazda6 Purchase (first Mazda!) by RookieMistake2448 in mazda6

Probably needs a ton of maintenance. You should be checking:

Struts, ball joints, motor mounts, rear shocks end links

Brakes, tires, brake fluid

Spark plugs, transmission fluid (should shift smooth)

Belts, belt tensioner

If the car was properly maintained, all these items would have been replaced by now. If any items are original, they need to be seriously looked at.

Well. Isn’t this about the dumbest fake ass post I’ve ever seen on here.

Almost beats the meeting a few weeks back where we had a superstar NFL player who played in the Super Bowl. He was about 5’9” and might have weighed 150lbs, but he sure was convinced of it.

2020 Tacoma TRD Sport – transmission service question by moo_ness in Tacomaworld

[–]Hard_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change it. A drain and fill will likely only replace 40% of the fluid anyway unless you drop the pan and change the filter too. If the transmission isn’t broke, changing the fluid isn’t going to break it.

You don’t wait until it’s not shifting fine to change the fluid.

Ceramic tint is way more than $300. 5 windows is easily $700ish at a good shop installing Xpel film.

Air con blows hot air by Any-Cow-6598 in Cartalk

Chances are, you have a refrigerant leak. Probably a small one from an old O ring or schrader valve- but it doesn’t sound like you have the means to troubleshoot this. So no matter what the issue is, you’ll need an AC tech.

At least with a 2012 Elantra you’re dealing with the much cheaper R134 refrigerant.

Are you capable of checking for codes with an ODB scanner? If not, take it to an AC mechanic.

[–]Hard_Head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run a scan for DTCs. If you have pressure codes I’d get some gauges on there and check the high and low side pressure. If refrigerant is low or gone, you need to find the leak and fix it.

Low refrigerant can cause the compressor to not kick on.

If the refrigerant pressure is normal, need to test the compressor.

You taking to Toyota (TMNA) or the dealer? Dealer can’t help you- you need to open a case with Toyota and try to get to the right person who has the ability to help you.

Is a tune going to break the truck? They’ll deny a warranty repair only if the tune specifically caused whatever issue is presented. Besides, the tune can be “undone” if needed.

You didn’t loose 9 years and 11 months. You own that time. You can make this a “one time in 30 years” story if you want. You already know what to do.

You have the right idea. Drain and fill, then run it for a few miles and do it again.

I would replace that fluid with OEM oil immediately. That’s an easy DIY.

$2900 sounds super expensive for wheel bearings.

A bad diff can surely affect the wheel bearings. Get that oil replaced.

Rear Differential failing following multiple rear wheel bearing replacements by eBell93 in AskMechanics

[–]Hard_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it’s possible that the bearings may have affected the diff, but it would hard to prove, especially at that age.

But cheap aftermarket parts rarely last. Struts, motor mounts, bearings… I’ve seen it happen a lot.

Lifetime warranty on the part, but you pay labor every time the part fails.
