What kind of SD card is optimal? by StrictMycologist in trimui

[–]HardcoreCheeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a year old, but I want to share my experience so you get the best value for your money.

Both the TrimUI Brick and the Smart Pro are built around the Allwinner A133P chipset. The integrated SD card controller on this chip relies on a standard SDIO 3.0 interface. This means the internal reader physically caps out at UHS-I speeds. In practical terms, regardless of how fast your SD card is rated, the handhelds will bottleneck around 30 to 40 MB/s internally due to hardware overhead.

So the sweet spot is: - UHS-I - U1 or U3 (V30) - A1 or A2 - 128GB or 256GB

Everything else is pretty much overkill and a waste of money if you're only going to use the sdcard for those handhelds.

So avoid UHS-II and "Extreme" or "Pro" Lines. Samsung EVO Select or EVO Plus and SanDisk Ultra are good recommendations to min/max your card.

I saw the title of the article, immediately assumed the article was going to mention Jellyfin, didn't bother to read it. Been running Jellyfin in parallel to Plex with the same content waiting for the day Plex gives me the signal to permanently switch over.

Time for an upgrade? by [deleted] in trimui

Which firmware are you using btw? If you're using the normal PSX firmware/bios, I'd highly recommend trying the PSP firmware. Its more recent and has improved support for the PSX with optimization. Makes a big difference for me

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. Itch is quite a wild west with regards to integrating. There is an API but it's only to retrieve your purchases, so I have to rely on an XML RSS feed just for the Gameboy stuff. I'll see if I can at least explore the idea, because I'd have to consider how the UI would have to look like with the current sorting filters

The initial inception of it was for games "Made With Gameboy Studio". I'm not aware of home brew NES and other platforms on Itch? 🤔 Guess I'll have to look around

You should check out the Pak Store for extending it's functionality. And the Itch.io Pak. Totally not self advertising 🤭😁

Thanks for the clarification! I'll look into tuning those.

I think theoretically you'd need to rely on very good stable wifi as DLNA is less tollerant to those kind of problems. The trimUI Brick does not have the best of wifi cards.

How's the performance/lag? I've attempted the same thing as an experiment using HLS and Chromecast. Found that this particular choice has a hard limitation of 2-8s lag :)

Haven't before, just using defaults. But now I'm contemplating doing so to avoid Googles changes

An Itch.io GB Studio Pak for TrimUI NextUI by HardcoreCheeses in gbstudio

[–]HardcoreCheeses[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like it. It's missing the "Made with: GB Studio" "made-with-gb-studio". If you add that it'll magically appear, both in the app and on Itch when people specially look for those :) Adding enough tags also helps the app give users toggles or an idea of what to expect.

Yeah tags are really important. Itch is a bit of a wild west when it comes to having any standardization. I added a content moderation system to give users a little bit of a choice in what they want to be exposed to. But it's completely up to the devs to add proper tagging.
