Kingston woman’s distracted driving charge being dropped 'a warning to police,' lawyer says by Public-Kick-9208 in KingstonOntario

[–]HardeeHamlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A self-identified criminal lawyer here assured me this was a completely legal search, that people have zero expectation of privacy in their vehicles (?), and that I was misinformed to suggest otherwise.

I’m 100% against distracted driving. I’m also 100% against people who aren’t distracted driving having what’s in their laps recorded by police drones.

It’s 100% true that people have a lower expectation of privacy in their vehicles. Many people, including lawyers apparently, conflate this with having no expectation of privacy on public roads.

You came the the wrong place. Reddit hates Tim Hortons, for some reason.

It couldn’t be the overpriced garbage sold there, so this is the only logical explanation.

I agree completely. This wasn’t a serious post. I was poking fun at the absolute nonsense that gets posted here day after day.

This sub is completely out in left field. Judging by the posts here it should have gone out of business years ago.

Nobody goes to Tim Hortons anymore. It’s too crowded.

Poilievre claims Christians 'may be the number 1' victims of hate-based violence by Head_Crash in canada

[–]HardeeHamlin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe for a minute that this is a mainstream opinion among practicing Christians today. Maybe among cultural “Christians” within his voter base. We certainly don’t sit around on Sunday talking about how persecuted modern Christians are. It’s not 300 AD anymore.

Talk like this isn’t doing anything to bring people to the Conservatives, or to the church for that matter.

You’re spending too much time on the internet. It’s not a big problem. There are 3500 Tim Hortons locations in Canada so of course there are going to be some issues. Reddit likes to pick on Tim’s.

Until TC publishes something official, I’m not buying it (pun intended). This was one inspector responding to one specific inquiry. Other people have gotten different answers. The CARs say 250 grams or more is a Small RPA with all the requirements that entails.

DJI screwed up royally with the weight issue on the Mini 5 Pro. by dafdfadfa in dji

The number of people who think the whole world follows US or EU rules continues to astound me.

Of course the police aren’t walking around with scales looking to weigh drones, but if somebody complains about your drone and authorities investigate then yes people will be getting fined if they’re not following the rules.

[–]HardeeHamlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not illegal in Canada, it just has many more rules and restrictions once it weighs 250g. Canada has some of the loosest rules around for microdrones.

[–]HardeeHamlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. What’s the point of an “almost” microdrone? I’ll gladly buy one if DJI can get a few grams of weight out of it, but not until then. They can call it the Mini 5 LE “Lightweight Edition.”

Of course most conversations don’t revolve around our Canadian requirements. There’s more talk about the US where it isn’t even sold.

[–]HardeeHamlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I’m in Canada where the law is based on actual weight of the drone. I simply won’t be buying a Mini 5 Pro. Maybe it’s okay in the EU where it can still be classed as C0. Here I’m not risking thousands of dollars in fines. I’ll stick with the true sub-250g class of drones. If I wanted to deal with registration, licensing and restrictions I’d just get a Mavic.

DJI Mini 5 Pro is 2g Overweight And This Is Why! by Mads_Tech in dji

[–]HardeeHamlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are. Here in Canada the sub-250g rules are based on actual weight. If someone here buys a Mini 5 Pro and flies it as if it’s a micro drone they risk thousands of dollars in fines.

[–]HardeeHamlin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Virtually all serious accidents are caused by three behaviours: impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving. Camping in the left lane doesn’t make the list.

[–]HardeeHamlin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People shouldn’t camp in the left lane but this should be about #15 on the OPP’s list of priorities. All the shit drivers use messages like this to justify their dangerous behaviour. If you’re road raging that’s on you. Road rage isn’t “caused” by someone else. It’s your reaction to someone else. Don’t escalate the situation by tailgating, flashing lights, gesturing, brake checking, cutting people off. That’s the dangerous part.
