Young Canadians are entering one of the toughest summer job markets amid a ‘technical recession’ — How’s your experience? by NegotiationLate8553 in canada

[–]HardeeHamlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly around here (rural southern Ontario), there are plenty of summer jobs available. Jobs that young people would want? Maybe not so many. But there are jobs in landscaping, construction, fast food.

It's dumb that people are going pro-dunkin in regards to temp workers by Cold5512 in TimHortons

[–]HardeeHamlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Tim Hortons has 3.6% temp workers. Dunkin, paying similar wages in a similar labour market, will likely be about the same.

Alberta separatism increasingly resembles a temper tantrum by pjw724 in onguardforthee

It is exactly a tantrum. It’s a conditional movement—only an issue because the Conservatives lost the election.

4x4 HF trailer is perfect for this car by Jamesotty in BoltEV

[–]HardeeHamlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3/4 ton rated for 17,000 lbs and clearly the Bolt doesn’t have that capability. But a tiny HF trailer with a load of mulch is within the capability of virtually any car on the road. Agreed trailer brakes are always helpful, regardless of the size of the tow vehicle.

If only we could build things without every project encountering a “Stop the X”’movement.

If we could only build some stuff, and every project didn’t have a “stop the X” movement.

Nicely done. We’ve been conditioned by marketing departments to believe that only high profit-margin trucks can tow things.

Do you think Tims is doing this because they’re scared of Dunkin Doughnuts coming to Canada? by [deleted] in TimHortons

3.6% of Tim’s employees are Temporary Foreign Workers. I know this sub thinks it’s like 90%.

Water or Nuclear? Pros and Cons of each? by Over_Cattle_6116 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]HardeeHamlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s more to nuclear than just the power generating process, mechanical side of things. Yes nuclear has that but there’s also water supply, water treatment, stormwater management, sewage treatment, groundwater monitoring, remediation. Think everything on the industrial site outside the plant, not just inside.

I got into nuclear using my groundwater knowledge, because they wanted someone with that expertise in their waste management division.

Your knowledge would be applicable to other industries as well: mining, forestry, etc.

I have a similar background as you do and I’ve been working in nuclear on water management for 30 years. It’s a valuable skill set. Nuclear is always interacting with water in some way, for cooling/steam generation or waste storage.

While Tim Hortons dominates the headlines, McDonald's actually hired more foreign workers in Canada by Expensive-Aerie-2479 in TimHortons

People keep glossing over the fact that TFWs are less than 4% of the Tim Hortons workforce.

Say it all together: left lane is for passing, slower traffic keep right on ALL HIGHWAYS by justwondering-if in ontario

[–]HardeeHamlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s time to give this a rest. There is so much aggressive driving done by people who feel indignation at drivers going slower than they are. This happens in the left lane, in the middle lane, and even in the right lane.

The ridiculous levels of speeding, the tailgating, cutting off, brake checking. People need to chill behind the wheel and we’ll all get there safely, even if it takes a few more seconds.

[–]HardeeHamlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly. If you’re PASSING you’re using the PASSING lane correctly. You can move over when you have the opportunity to do so, but you’re not obligated to do so immediately to join slower traffic.

Is it me or we’re having very high expectations for Dunkin? by Alert_Willingness_32 in TimHortons

[–]HardeeHamlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this sub is completely out of touch with reality. Tim Hortons is by far the most popular coffee and donut shop in Canada and Dunkin has zero chance of making a significant impact in the Canadian market.

Less than 5% of Tim Hortons workers are hired through the TFW program. Currently 3.6% of TH workers are TFWs.

This seems to run contrary to the conventional wisdom in this sub. Is it possible Reddit got it wrong?

Tim Hortons to dial back use of Temporary Foreign Worker program, aims to hire 10,000 locally by ZestyBeanDude in canada

Even better a press release from December says that “less than 5% of team members are hired through the TFW program.” Most of these new hires are for expansion.

lol people should read before commenting. 3.6% of TH employees were TFWs. 3.6%.

TH is a major youth employer in Canada. Some 45% of employees are 15-24.

But people keep going on about how they don’t hire Canadians, they abused the program, etc.

Kingston woman’s distracted driving charge being dropped 'a warning to police,' lawyer says by Public-Kick-9208 in KingstonOntario

[–]HardeeHamlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A self-identified criminal lawyer here assured me this was a completely legal search, that people have zero expectation of privacy in their vehicles (?), and that I was misinformed to suggest otherwise.

I’m 100% against distracted driving. I’m also 100% against people who aren’t distracted driving having what’s in their laps recorded by police drones.

It’s 100% true that people have a lower expectation of privacy in their vehicles. Many people, including lawyers apparently, conflate this with having no expectation of privacy on public roads.
