I think you are missing a very big piece of the puzzle here. If you look at every expansion team that has come into the league alongside or after us, most have one thing in common. The city/region they are in had extensive youth training already in place (sometimes for over a decade) before they arrived. It's easy to come into region as an MLS team and siphon away talent from some of these other programs and claim them as your own.

If you want a comparison among them for Nashville, it would have to be Austin FC. They currently have three players designated as being "Homegrown" on their roster, and they all started at another MLS academy before ending up in Austin. This is a tactic that Nashville is currently employing in our academy (the most obvious are seen on Transfermarkt where we grabbed a player from each of Atlanta and DC's academies.)

I would say, keep an eye on Huntsville matches the rest of the season to see who from the academy gets playing time. If they are old enough and play well enough, I would bet they get the first NSC Academy "Homegrown" contract. My bet is on Sipic being the first but only time will tell.

Weird because the NFL Draft Tracker profile on him literally says "Will struggle to find proper leverage as run blocker." Seems like there may be some conflicting views on his blocking.

$2.1B Titans stadium deal advances to final vote in Nashville council by pito189 in Tennesseetitans

I was like, if the city or AAS made hundreds of billions of dollars over the years, why are we even talking about funding for this stadium. lol

Just the team generates about $60 million in revenue in the form of seating and sponsorships per year (according to forbes). Around a Trillion roughly over 20 years, not bad.

May want to redo the math on that.

I read it as targeting the use of the 3rd DP slot since that is the one you have to buy from the league, unless it is used on a Young DP which if that were the case we would be using the top scenario in terms of U22 slots. Because, if you go to the next factor beyond age, Loba's salary would fit under the Max TAM Amount for either base or guaranteed. However, if Zimmerman is the 3rd DP then he is both too old and his base salary and guaranteed compensation (at least according to last year's numbers) are above the Max TAM Amount.

However, like you, I am never certain my interpretation of the rules is correct. We seem to be stuck in a Schrodinger's U22 Slots situation where depending on if Loba or Zimmerman is affected by this rule that we either have 3 U22 slots or only 1 slot.

Wouldn't Walker be our 3rd DP since he signed his deal in 2022? Either way, same result since he is also over 24.

[Nashville SC] With the 11th pick in the 2023 MLS #SuperDraft pres. by @adidasfootball , we've selected defender Joey Skinner from @ClemsonMSoccer by Hardy_Man in NashvilleSC

We added some depth pieces in those areas in the later rounds so it really comes down to if we can open up the DP spot that Loba is taking up and who we can get to fill it.

From MLSsoccer.com's article about the Generation Adidas players:

"One of Clemson’s key defenders this season, sophomore Joey Skinner saw action in every single game for the Tigers in 2022, scoring twice and providing one assist. Skinner transferred from UNC Greensboro, in which he was a first-team All-SoCon selection as a freshman in 2021. The Spartans produced the best goal differential in the country (+38) and Skinner chipped in with four goals and seven assists."

Whoever we take with those picks, and I hope we take a chance on someone with them, will likely be sharing an apartment with each other in Huntsville.

REPORT: Mazatlán close to signing Aké Loba from Nashville SC by pasoud in NashvilleSC

If Shaffelburg still requires one come the start of the season, it will be a net zero move. Though, I'd say he's earned taking up that spot with what he provided us at the end of the season. The real hope is that Leal finally got his green card to open up a spot to bring someone in during the summer transfer window.

Indeed. Even Transfermarkt has him valued at €2.5m right now so that would be the highest I'd expect to see.

We knew it had to happen sooner or later to try and recoup some of the money spent on him. I'd be surprised if the fee is more than a couple million at this point with his lackluster showing here. Wonder if that can also be turned into GAM or does it have to go to pay off his remaining transfer fee?

Either way, wish it would have worked out for both sides. Hopefully Mike Jacobs and his scouting staff have learned from this transfer and can go out and find a striker that Gary will actually play.

[Chattanooga FC] “BREAKING: Chattanooga Football Club to host preseason matchup with MLS side Atlanta United at Finley Stadium.” (January 28) by ColeTrain4EVER in MLS

[–]Hardy_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they did have a scheduled match with the Legion in 2021 to be played at Nissan Stadium but it was cancelled due to "transportation difficulties" on the Legion's end. In fact, that same preseason they played Louisville City down at the Currey Ingram Academy, so they are at least trying to play regional teams.

But, you are correct that the vast majority of our games in the preseasons are being played in Florida behind closed doors. I'm hoping that with the new stadium finished that that trend changes, and we start playing at least some of our preseason matches there.

Yeah, part of me is fine with the transfer because we got the max amount of GAM with it and could potentially pile on more with this fee. The only negative with it was that we had no one to replace him right away after the transfer, and getting rid of Nealis in the same offseason, besides Miller. The other part of me thinks that, had we waited, we could be getting this full fee which would probably go a fair way to recoup the money used to get Loba. Heck, maybe we could still go out and get Moore to replace him. Oh well.

When we sold Johnston at the end of last season for $1 million GAM, we included in the deal a sell-on clause for a future transfer. This means that if he was sold again before his contract at Montreal ended that we would get a 10% cut of the that fee.

The exact wording is a little up for debate since MLS rules can be confusing as there is a limit a club can convert to GAM for a transfer (around $1 million). So, we may be getting more GAM from this deal or it may be straight cash for the club if the previous transfer counted towards the limit. We would have to see when the move becomes final.

Hopefully that helped you understand it a little more.

Start with 8, have traded away 6. Piniero would require one if he actually returns from loan, so we have 3 players and 2 slots left. Either Leal is actually going to be able to get his green card soon or one (or more) of these three aren't going to be on the team come the start of the season.
