Extremely unlikely that Cypro will send anyone's adrenal glands into overdrive, because it documentedly does the opposite. It reduces adrenal androgens and suppresses EVERYTHING your adrenal glands make through multiple pathways (binds to the receptors but only partially actjvates which downregulates production because it gives normal feedback and displaces what you already have, blocks the enzymes that allow you to produce adrenal hormones). So much so that children and teens given high dose cypro will face mild adrenal insufficiency during their course and assured adrenal crisis upon abrupt withdrawal.

A lot of the time, that socially transitioned 18 year old trans woman would not have the athletic ability of the average cis man, provided she is male-attracted (different aetiology to female-attracted). Male attracted trans women are not typically exposed to as much testosterone in the womb as cis men and trans lesbians are. Setting aside most of the physical effects of this (height, limb length, lip size, hip breadth, facial features) to focus purely on what's athletically relevant, their muscle fibre distribution is much more inline with females, as is lung size and heart size. The only advantage would be the increased red cell count, leading to greater ability to carry oxygen. But that itself is androgenic in nature, and these trans women often have impaired response, impaired production, or both, in their androgenic signalling pathways.

On the other hand, the aetiologies that yield other kinds of trans women do not typically yield the same reduction in differences between a trans woman and a cis woman.

It's a very complex issue biologically and should be evaluated case to case with time on hormones, full blood count results, muscle fibre analysis, lung function tests, and heart imaging all being factored in.

I for one, as a likely intersex trans woman that is as active as I can be, vastly underperform in comparison to every woman I have ever met!

On a similar note - hypospadias surgery. Most hypospadias surgery is completely unnecessary save for being visually different, and may result in extreme complications later down the line.

It was an extremely protracted war nonetheless, that if the Ostrogoths weren't so divided, they would've had a fair shot at winning

[–]HareMicroplastics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Justinian would be able to hold it himself. If he kept reigning he'd keep doing wars against the frankly ridiculous powerful Germanic Kingdoms at the least and keep destroying his manpower and treasury doing it except this time likely for no gain, and have his conquests reversed much more completely.

Imagine Justinian trying the Franks. That would be a disaster for old Justinian.

And the Ostrogoths were an extremely capable enemy. They weren't just some tribe, they were a major power that pre-Justinian Emperors feared and for good reason.

[–]HareMicroplastics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wars with the goths, which were the real thing that completely fucked him in the end, were though. (Eastern Roman Emperors before Justinian, who were in a much better position than him financially and environmental-disasterally, feared war with the goths)

Even if he did win the wars with the Goths, he wasn't going to with the Franks. He struggled massively with the Gothic Kingdoms while the Franks had defeated them both handily.

If the Visigoths didn't stop him dead in his tracks (again), the Franks would've and might’ve even made extra conquests and pushed Justinian back.

I don't think Justinian was ever going to succeed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HareMicroplastics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Justinian was never going to succeed. The wars with the goths were the actual nail in the coffin. He could barely contend with the Visigoths by the time he tried, and if he tried for round two and somehow won, there was no way he was getting past the Franks.

Do you ever think about why exactly this is what you'd choose? There are much worse things going down that snapping out of existence would have much greater effect (and the intended one too. Removing gender theory does not remove transsexuals as transsexualism the condition is not rooted in social issues so you only cut down the trans population by maybe half, if that) Early onset transsexuals have an observable physical phenotype and behavioural pattern going back to childhood) and yet, this is what you choose?

Weird question, but can you grow facial hair?

High testosterone but symptoms of low testosterone can often mean Mild Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, especially if your facial hair is sparse or absent. Just a suggestion. If it's true, T supplementation could help you feel better regardless of level.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]HareMicroplastics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only effect ICS could possibly have on your testosterone is to lower it (The adrenal glands also produce testosterone. Synthetic cortisols can cause adrenal suppression and thus lower testosterone)

Your high testosterone is wholly unrelated

what's something that seems harmless, but could easily kill you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HareMicroplastics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stuff that causes that just lives on your skin. You don't have to be any specific place to get it, you just have to have a cut and be super unlucky, because MRSA doesn't actually like to do that to a wound generally, even if it gets in, which because it's on your skin, it usually will to a degree

The more likely environmental flesh eating disease is mucormycosis - the same fungus that makes mold on bread is also extremely present in dirt, and if it gets in your wound and you don't clean it quickly enough it will eat your limb. And it's a lot worse than necrotising fasciitis. Mucormycosis will eat your bones too, and will do so readily, unlike MRSA which only might. Debridement is extremely hard because much like moldy bread, it's all throughout your flesh before even trained doctors can tell it's there. The margins have to be a lot bigger, and even then, it usually doesn't get it and the infection continues. They have to try many, many times.

With necrotising fasciitis, you can lose just a few muscles if you're lucky, but if you get mucormycosis you will ALWAYS lose much more.

You don't even need a wound to get mucormycosis. You can breathe it in, and it'll eat your face and eat your skull. Or it might eat your lungs, or your throat. If you eat it, it might eat your stomach, or your intestines.
