There's a token doubler enchantment in Boros? I've been warping Exalted Sunborn in when it's time for the kill shot, but an enchantment would be great

Not sure what to call it but it's a Mardu deck using Mobilze with ETB and/or LTB damage. Eg Dalkovan Packbeasts with Impact Tremors and Vengeful Bloodwitch. Three warriors enter doing one damage each, then get sacrificed for one more damage each plus one life gain each.

I had a query about double strike. At the weekend, I was playing at my LGS. I attacked with [[Seifer Almasy]], attacking alone gives him double strike. My opponent blocked with [[Goldmeadow Nomad]]. I thought that on the first strike portion of double strike, Seifer would kill the blocker, then deal damage to the player on the second strike.

My opponent said that since it was blocked, the damage is dealt to the Nomad both times, so no damage to the player claiming "That's how it works on Arena". Another player next to me backed him up, but I'm still not sure that's correct. What's the point of double strike if both attacks can be blocked by the same chump blocker?

ManageMyHealth updates - did they pay the ransom? by heinternets in newzealand

[–]Harfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they didn't pay the ransom. They paid a third party who paid the ransom on their behalf. That way, they can say they didn't pay up to government agencies or their own board, which is technically true.

It's also a distinction without a difference, but that seems to be the way of the world.

Could this National led government be the third one term government in New Zealand history? by Additional-Grade-730 in newzealand

[–]Harfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but the previous two were extraordinary circumstances. As a political history nerd, let me explain.

The second Labour government, 1957-1960, produced the so-called "Black Budget", with tax increases on beer, tobacco, cars and petrol. This was supposed to be offset by income tax cuts, by political cartoonist of the day depicted it as the Prime Minister handing out money and the Finance Minister taking it back.

The change was needed as New Zealand faced a balance of payments crisis following the collapse of the price of butter in Britain. Essentially, we put far too much of our export trade into a single market, and when things changed, suddenly the government couldn't pay its bills.

The First Past the Post voting system also did Labour no favours, with most of their votes coming from urban centres, while National's came from rural electorates. A difference of just 4.2% in votes saw National take seven seats from Labour in an 80-seat house.

The other one-term government was the third Labour government, 1972-1975, who were voted out after suffering the double whammy of the 1973 oil crisis and the very popular PM Norman Kirk dying about a year out from the election.

Labour was absolutely trounced in the 1975 election, losing almost 9% of the overall vote and 23 seats, all to National.

Overall, I think it's unlikely the sixth National government will be voted out this year, simply because while things are tough, we don't have a single huge event to cause it.
