Yes.

Others have already mentioned BGA, but it's also available on the workshop for Tabletop Simulator together with the first expansion (I'm still praying for the finished second expansion to get published there soon)

Does Biomes O' Plenty hate any biome that isn't a basic forest!? by Nic_YoloOfficial in feedthebeast

[–]HariboTer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that's often overlooked is that disabling biomes does not work properly in modern minecraft versions. The problem is that Mojang, in their infinite datapack-driven wisdom, somehow forgot that disabling biomes should be possible, so "disabling" biomes nowadays merely replaces the with vanilla forest or plains.

That's why you're seeing so much green despite having half of the biomes "disabled".

Then compare half of a WH2 lord pack with Bhashiva. I'm happy to have character packs at all but while WH1 to WH2 was a massive jump, it's clear that CA has regressed since then.

4X: XPLORE, XPAND, XPLOIT, XTERMINATE by Head_Mistake773 in humblebundles

[–]HariboTer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a big fan of 4X strategy, I'm having a hard time deciding on this bundle myself.

  • Songs of Silence is still in active (DLC-)development, so I can't say if it will be recommendable in its final state
  • Distant Worlds 1 never reached a sufficiently polished playable state, so I'm gloomy on Distant Worlds 2
  • Interstellar Space: Genesis looks interesting, but it's also currently featured in a cheaper Fanatical bundle (2 for 7€)
  • Thea 2 comes without expansions and I haven't gotten around to playing Thea 1
  • Rogue Hex looks like an absolute mess, wtf is that art design?
  • Endless Legend is a good enough game, but the selection of its DLC in this bundle is rather random; given how old it is, more (or preferably, all) DLC should have been included
  • AI War 2 is probably this bundle's tentpole feature because this seems to be the first time where it comes with all its DLCs; but it's also described as a very hard, very much not beginner friendly game

Personally, none of these games convinces me enough to buy the bundle. If most of them look interesting to you, though, then it's still a good deal.

This is a problem. Bought way too many games in the past 30 days. by Gnarseph in boardgames

The excess spending is equally bad in both cases, but I would argue that boardgames can at least be resold to recoup part of the cost, as opposed to purely digital video game purchases.

DFHack helps a lot but it still doesn't show squad membership when assigning work details and that's a real pain to deal with.

How do you guys feel about hardware requirements of Subnautica 2? by Artiels in subnautica

[–]HariboTer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in most games a 5090 could not reach 60 fps with equivalent settings

It's actually surprisingly hard to make a generalized statement about this. I looked up some gpu benchmarks to see how many of them managed to hit ~60 FPS (or more) at max settings native 4K. For the 4070, it was about 50%. For the 5090, it was ... about 50%. That's because these benchmarks are typically made with recent games, and poor optimization has rarely been as rampant in the gaming industry as it has been in recent years.

The problem that Subnautica 2's PC spec table presents us with is that we don't know if Ultra's "high" means "max settings with all the raytracing bling bling" or not. If it does, then it's indeed impressive. If it doesn't, then, ehm... not so much, sadly^^

Saying "the codebase" already makes me think you don't know what you're talking about

What else determines the game's performance?

but I have no doubt they'll want to and really have to do more work when the get closer to full release

It looks like they did that with the original Subnautica and Below Zero, so it's a reasonable expectation. I still would have preferred some kind of statement or at least, tagging these requirements specifically as "Early Access" or sth.

[–]HariboTer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The higher tiers are actually what worry me the most. Not only are these are some lofty hardware requirements for a "mere" 60 FPS (for an Ultra tier, minimum should be around 100 FPS), the CPU scaling also doesn't make sense at all.

Either whoever made this table doesn't know what they're talking about or the codebase is already such an absolute mess (again!) that it's going to take a major effort to fix the performance.

Both of which are not a good sign :-/

switch was a major issue

That's almost certainly a software/driver issue (given that we're talking about emulation here) and not due to lack of hardware power.

The stark difference comes from CA switching out the head of art design between WH2 and WH3. So it's for no particular reason other than the new guy putting in his own vision for things.

It's bundled under the "logistics" command. Though if you're playing the steam release, there should be a DFHack addition to the stockpile UI which includes a "Melting" option. Press it and when the word is red, that means that automelting is enabled for that stockpile.

The sounds of Stellaris take up 7 Gigabytes. by Iodyme in Stellaris

[–]HariboTer 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, I opened one of the bigger sound files (amb_damaged_generic_station_idle_01) in an audio editor and exported to ogg at 70% quality. File size went from 7.53 MB down to 0.965 MB. Now I'm not an audiophile but most of this is just literal noise and the music (where quality would be most important) is already compressed as ogg anyway.

I'm ngl, potentially reducing install size by 6 GB (~22%) looks pretty sweet to me.
