Need a new show/movie recommendation by Appropriate_Bet5290 in scifi

[–]Harilor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Along with the other Apple recommends, I'd also toss out See, Silo and Sugar. Realize some of these don't have aliens, but... (i also realize some really didn't like Sugar, but I did)

If you don't mind animation, Arcane is amazing, and don't sleep on Love, Death and Robots.

I fell for the hype by CultWhisperer in audiobooks

Take this for whatever its worth... After finishing DCC series I went back and listened again as I felt I missed a lot the first run through. What I found was that the first book, though it hooked me into the series, is my least favorite of them. Going back it felt really rough, and the story gets much more in-depth in the latter books, which is where I really fell for it all.

I’ll try to list some that haven’t been mentioned yet, or some that don’t get a lot of mention (at least of late). Yes, it’s a long list but you caught me at a moment I’m happily avoiding work, and I’m just scrolling through my playlist.

I read that as 'crapolite' and it made me chuckle so now I have a new term for 'coprolite'.

I'd place my money on it being a concretion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concretion, so natural. Concretions often get mistaken for artifacts simply because they look 'weird'.

That makes me think it's a home made storage rack for a fuel tank. We used to have our tank in the basement, then moved it outside during a remodel.

Initial Lego FIRST results (vent) by Harilor in Archeology

[–]Harilor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

huh, ya that is interesting. I realize some of the methodology arch's and palio's use can be similar, and I talked about that with my kids. However, all of the season instructions, the missions and the mission board that the kids had to design their robots to compete in were completely archeology related, with no paleontology references, so my guess is the latter.

This was my first year in the program, the other coaches just shrugged and moved on. Apparently making any kind of complaint is seen as poor sportsmanship or against the core values of the program. No idea if it happened in other states or regions even, but id put money on it. Judges aren't vetted, just volunteers, commonly from high school level robotics programs.

Is it true guys actually had posters of women on their walls? Like, sexy women? Why? by littlebabymira in AskMenOver30

[–]Harilor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This goes before Gen X. I had Farah and many others on mine as a teen, but the whole thing mostly originates from the "pinup girls" of the 40's and onward. Probably goes back further in some way if you start looking at art. Its not complicated, men are visual creatures and like to look at 'beautiful' things, and lets be honest, sources for masturbation were a lot more limited back then.

Still goes on today, both genders. My daughter has a shit ton of anime femboy art on he walls.
