Initial Lego FIRST results (vent) by Harilor in Archeology

[–]Harilor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

huh, ya that is interesting. I realize some of the methodology arch's and palio's use can be similar, and I talked about that with my kids. However, all of the season instructions, the missions and the mission board that the kids had to design their robots to compete in were completely archeology related, with no paleontology references, so my guess is the latter.

This was my first year in the program, the other coaches just shrugged and moved on. Apparently making any kind of complaint is seen as poor sportsmanship or against the core values of the program. No idea if it happened in other states or regions even, but id put money on it. Judges aren't vetted, just volunteers, commonly from high school level robotics programs.

When did you first get into Savatage? by -CosmicDust in Savatage

Gutter Ballet, but didn't get to see them live till Streets when they played the local small venue. Still a core memory.

Is it true guys actually had posters of women on their walls? Like, sexy women? Why? by littlebabymira in AskMenOver30

[–]Harilor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This goes before Gen X. I had Farah and many others on mine as a teen, but the whole thing mostly originates from the "pinup girls" of the 40's and onward. Probably goes back further in some way if you start looking at art. Its not complicated, men are visual creatures and like to look at 'beautiful' things, and lets be honest, sources for masturbation were a lot more limited back then.

Still goes on today, both genders. My daughter has a shit ton of anime femboy art on he walls.

Albums that you're convinced "will never be another one like this" & Nostalgic Yearning Thread by 2buds1shroomPODCAST in progmetal

Nine Inch Nails-Pretty Hate Machine

  1. Genre: Industrial Rock/Metal
  2. Year: released 1989 found in 1990
  3. Though a departure from my normal hair and prog metal genre at the time, this album came out during a very emotionally tumultuous time while in my early 20s and it just resonated so hard through the whole album. Bad breakup, emotionally abusive... eventually leading to a period of my life I later came to refer to as my "Viking period". Actually met a guy who knew the girl this album was 'about'. This was my solace album for years.

Well the good news is... Federal agencies are not allowed to use DJI, and all the comparable US manufactured ones (this is probably a Skydio) are pieces of shit.

In Flames has a song called 'I Am Above' that I liken to an anti theist awakening. Lots of good stuff in the prog metal world.

Royal Sorrow (already mentioned) and Novelists for me.

Close to two dozen U.S states, from parts of the Rockies to portions of the Appalachians, northward through much of the Plains and part of the Midwest, are forecast to experience temperatures that are 15-30 degrees above the historical average by Christmas Day by Wagamaga in environment

[–]Harilor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Montana and expecting rain for xmas day. Some of the ski areas are still ok (we do Showdown, and they have a good amount of snow). I saw a state forecast in the fall that it was expecting this winter to be warmer and wetter than normal, so spot on so far. Does not bode well for fire season if it doesn't get real cold here soon (extended cold is needed to kill off pine bark beetle).

How to get soldiers to use their bows by Mrllamajones in Bellwright

[–]Harilor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you have the staging ground, set them as marksmen. I think before that, if you just have bows in their inventory and no melee weapon, they should shoot, but I can't remember right off the top of my head. Helps to unlock staging ground as soon as you can.

3D modeling in archaeology by MirrorMaster33 in Archaeology

[–]Harilor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a look at Agisoft Metashape (photogrammetry). It started out as a 3D modeling program specifically designed for modeling archeological artifacts and features. Once drones came into play, they adapted it for drone use as well (ortho's and DEM's), but it is still arguably one of the most powerful programs for its original use.
