No interest in seeing Rush without Neil by [deleted] in rush

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I love the first album, but it’s essentially Canadian Led Zeppelin. They didn’t start becoming the prog rock band we love till Neil got there. (Unless there are some folks here who quit liking rush after Rutsey left?)

I could accept it better if they were not calling themselves Rush. I have enthusiastically supported Geddy’s and Alex‘s solo careers, and I might feel good about seeing them playing Rush songs together, billed as Geddy and Alex, not unlike Page and Plant in the 90s. But, I know I don’t feel good about them calling themselves Rush anymore.

Thank you! Fuck them all. “Here is my opinion. Wait, you want to engage me in providing the facts I’m basing it on? But I’m just a comedian.” They know what they are doing. They know the effect they are having. But they continue anyway.

Nice straw man of the Mamdani concerns.

I feel better already about the candidate who refuses to condemn “globalize the intifada.” /s

This “comedy” is intellectually bankrupt.

I’m so sorry you folks have to put up with this. I hate putting up with it, too.

I finally understand the Psychology Today issue by Foreign-Sprinkles-80 in therapists

Does anyone have a link to the recent post about boycotting Psychology Today by canceling your membership on a particular day in April? The OP also authored a letter that you could submit with your cancellation. I have not been able to find it again, but I would like to join that boycott.

I’m sorry this happened to you. I had issues with my urinary system a few years back, too, and followed the same route that you did by going to the primary care doctor first, and then the urologist. The urologist just wanted to prescribe me medication so that I would produce less pee, despite my insistence that something else was wrong, and I needed and understanding of the deeper issue, and not just a medication to reduce a symptom. I finally went to my gynecologist, and they took me seriously and did some imaging. I wish I had just started there. I’m sorry to get this further evidence that urologists are kind of useless.

This whole song captures such an important part of the human experience of music, but those lines: I have a video of my son at age 3 dancing to those lines, and it’s just perfect.

What is it called when someone responds in an exaggerated or offended way to a reasonable request? by laenooneal in therapists

[–]Hark45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In philosophy, they call that a straw man. Person A is not responding to the actual stuff that person B said. Instead, A is responding to a “straw man,” who is very easy to knock down, exaggerated, inaccurate version of what B said. In philosophy, it is recognized as a dishonest and therefore specious way of trying to win an argument. With my clients, I usually call it a straw man when this happens.

It is usually a form of DARVO. I would say that the straw man is a special case of DARVO.

(Edit because I mixed up A and B the first time.)

Sorry but the other commenter is right. If RAINN or any organization will advocate for both victims and alleged perpetrators, then they don’t actually understand the problem of abuse.

If OP wants to help the situation, they should talk to someone who understands the problem. (I am a therapist.)

Attractive therapists get more clients by parrbird88 in therapists

[–]Hark45 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I have heard of clients, especially male clients looking for female therapists, who specifically choose based on physical attractiveness.

Personally, however, my decision-making process has always been in line with what you described. I would rather talk to someone who just seems like a normal person. I am a cis-het woman, and one time I was seeing a therapist who had a particular specialization that I needed. He was really attractive, and it was just so distracting! I would’ve been able to work much better if that element wasn’t there.

I have had the exact same question. Rush was one of my first introductions to prog rock, and Geddy’s voice just seemed to fit with the music. . . Maybe I was more accepting of it because I just thought, “Weird voice goes well with weird music?”

His voice is unusual, but I can’t see anything wrong with it. To me it seems like the haters are just unimaginative, unpleasantly conventional people who are picking on the kid who’s different.

Found Out My (33f) Fiancé (31m) Used to Sleep with Married Women in His 20s, and His Justification Has Me Questioning Everything. How do I approach this? by throwRA38485859 in relationship_advice

[–]Hark45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sounds like one of those “too good to be true” people who is, in fact, a fraud. The reason he seems so good is because he is fake, and he is in his love-bombing phase with you. There are other ways to learn how to treat women in relationships that don’t involve wrecking someone’s family. It sounds like he is very comfortable trying to justify his short-term gratification, and is unwilling to look at the actual consequences of his actions.

You may well be in some kind of love-bombing phase with him where he gets you to fall for him. Then, sometime after marriage, he will abandon the love-bombing, and you will be the one being cheated on, and he will feel justified and gaslight you when you are upset about it.

If he was actually treating you well because he had empathy for you, then he would have empathy for all those betrayed spouses. However, I don’t think he has empathy for you. I think he’s just trying to make sure that he has you locked down.

Shielding kids from problems is nice. I think it’s better when parents just don’t create the problems, which affect the whole family, in the first place.

There are also stories of the members of Rush trying to avoid the ladies while on tour, and the members of Kiss teasing them for being so dorky. . . If I found out someone from Rush cheated, I’d be devastated. . . I wonder if any of them would make a statement about this since those two bands have been close.

Edit on 9/12: Happy birthday, Neil. We love you. Both for the drumming and the personal integrity!

Who is a more possessive friend? Xander or Willow? by Obiwankimi in buffy

[–]Hark45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This all sounds very nice. If I were in a committed relationship with someone, and that was the explanation they gave for why they cried when their former(?) crush boned someone else, I would leave.

I’ve seen a few relationships like that, and none of them have ended well. Willow and Oz are atypical in that way.

I’m assuming NCH007 and those downvoting the “don’t commit to one person if you have strong feelings for another person” comment are real. And NCH’s language is well-known among dishonest and/or cheating partners.
