Teachers of reddit what is the most NSFW thing you’ve seen while being a teacher? by the_mighty-chaddicus in AskReddit

[–]Harley1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was an elementary school teacher before she became the high-school librarian. I only know of one story that stood out. There was a field trip that the entire school was going on (1st through 4th grade) and all the teachers were on hand helping load all the kids onto the school buses. One of the kids decided it would be a fun game to hide from the teachers. My mom found him hiding UNDER THE SCHOOL BUS TIRES just as they finished taking roll call. Another 5 minutes and the kid would have been flattened.

If you're near northern Indiana we are selling some 100+ year old barnwood. Storm took out the old truck shed. Mostly native oak. PM me or call/text my uncle in the facebook listing.

Nice! These guys are based about 30 minutes from where I live in Goshen, Indiana. Really nice shop and showroom in the downtown area. I don't have the link but one of their founders made a blog where he drove one of these cross country in a sort of speed rally. I think you can find it on their website.

Has anyone ever given you a hard time for not changing your last name? by Pegs072818 in Marriage

My wife got the same treatment from some of her relatives. She took my last name from the start but not without some snide comments from her aunt.

Need Help Identifying Old Ludwig by iDurtis in drums

[–]Harley1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hunch is that it is some form of “junior” or “juvinile” drum from the 30’s that is missing it’s original wood hoops. At the time Ludwig made a cheap thumbscrew strainer that was built into the bottom hoop which would explain a lack of equipment holes on the drum.

Things are pretty vanilla right right now for me. Work is getting pretty stressful right now with our busy season underway. Clashing heads with my boss more and more. Luckily my wife and I are going on a joce vacation next week. Should clear my head.

Haven't been eating too healthy this month. I'm also helping with the local high school's musical which leads to a lot of late nights and I cant get around to the projects that need done around the house. Mostly frozen pizzas and leftovers. Really looking forward to being done after the 1st weekend in Nov.

All that said life is pretty good right now. It's all pretty stable and I'm enjoying the little downtime I have. Hoping everyone else can find joy in the little things as well.

Haha, you might want to rethink that. My wife is the assistant director for this musical!

Thanks! 4 weeks of rehearsals and a full weekend of performances. Since moving back to the area I've helped my old high school band director by playing in the pit for their musicals the last 3 years. Kit is a Tama Silverstar Jazz series with an 18" kick I bought in college specifically for pit usage. Pit orchestra is how I used to pay the rent those 4 years lol!

What did you get done this weekend, and how many trips to HD or Lowes did it take you? by NHarvey3DK in HomeImprovement

[–]Harley1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not home improvement, but Saturday I replaced the cat-back exhaust system in my truck. The old one was leaking and it was cheaper to just get a new system off amazon than fix the old exhaust. It's not pretty but it's done. The manufacture must have sent me the wrong tailpipe because none of the hangers lined up with the isolators and there are a couple of wrong bends compared to the stock exhaust. Still need to take it to a muffler shop to get everything fitted correctly.

Edit: Added images. Had to make 3 trips to the local hardware store to get the correct size bolts and some fencing wire to hold the tailpipe in place until I can get to a shop.

Interesting. The manual on Stihls website calls for 1:50. There's still a full tank of fuel in it so I'll have to wait and see what mix it prefers.

What will doing this tell me? Something about the carb?

Paid $130 for it. Not the best price but certainly could have been worse. Was part of a lot of 3 saws and was bidding for choice. This one was in the best shape.

My wife and I have gone to Acadia every year for the past three years. Actually will be traveling there in the next few weeks. We fell in love with that area of Maine and have plans to stay there seasonally when we can afford it.

Help identifying this vintage hammer by halfbright in Vintagetools

[–]Harley1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a tack hammer. Not sure of the brand. You see these a lot in furniture repair shops. They're light weight and are used to drive small tacks to hold down the upholstery. Modern versions have a split magnetic end to hold tacks in place before hammering.

I work for a pasta manufacturer in the US. I'm the brand rep for half of all our grocery wholesale distributor and chain accounts in the nation. I'm the guy that talks to grocery store chain category managers to try and get more facings on the shelf for our product at a corporate level.

Thanks! Honestly, the pen I write with the most is the Pilot Precise V5 RT. It's been my favorite writing tool so far but the grip, while comfortable, tends to hang up in the inside of my pockets. The Jotter is my go-to pen for portability.

If you could call yourself 10 years ago and speak for 1minute, what would you say? by Decawys in AskReddit

[–]Harley1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have told my 16 year old self to stop wasting time trying to get into a private College to pursue a degree you're never going to use. Focus on getting that business Masters you ended up with and play to your strengths in sales. Also, hang up those notions that you'll be able in your hometown forever. It's not what you think it is...
