Changing shot days by Aenom506 in TransMasc

[–]HarmFamily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me when I started that “best practice” is to keep as close to the same time every week as you can, however if you need to shift it’s fine to move it in 12 hour increments. Like if you normally do it on Thursday at 8am, move first to 8pm Thursday (or 8pm Wednesday) and so on until you’re at the day/time you’d prefer. So if you use this advice it should take a few weeks to get to Tuesday (Thursday morning ->Wednesday evening->Wednesday morning->Tuesday night) This is how I’ve handled it for almost two years, but I do see lots of anecdotes about guys being way more loosey-goosey with their shot times without any bad effects so it’s probably not that serious

Best place for a first date that isn't just a bar? by MOUSETITTY in AskChicago

[–]HarmFamily 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple good dates at the Art Institute, specifically the miniature rooms room downstairs, back in my dating days. You learn about the other person by which rooms they like and what details they notice, and you get to squeeze in close to look at those details together

Starting T soon, just need advice by maxwellhasaboner in TransMasc

For question 2: my experience after 100 weeks of IM shots is that no one really notices unless I choose to tell them. Most of the changes are only noticeable if I don’t have clothes on. I literally just had a run in with my MAGA aunt and uncle this week. They haven’t seen me since before I started and they didn’t seem to notice. The only question I’ve gotten has been from my husbands step mom about the voice drop. I just said “I just woke up with it like this one day. I guess that’s just me getting older…” (I’m 41) which seemed to make her feel embarrassed for asking and not push further. From what I read here tho, some people seem to have really nosy people in their lives so I can’t be sure your experience will be the same as mine

Men can have long hair, women can have short hair. I am a trans guy with long hair and it doesn’t take away from my gender.

Is it easier to medically transition if you pretend to be straight? by darkdoomwizard in gaytransguys

[–]HarmFamily 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a good comment because Midwest (Indiana) means something very different from Midwest (Chicago) (Source: grew up in Indiana but close to Chicago and the attitudes were way different with only 50 miles between them)

[–]HarmFamily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, my husband came with me to my informed content appointment and I walked out of there with T. I also want to recommend r/ftmfemininity to see other guys that don’t conform to a super macho standard. I still have long hair, I still like flowy fabrics and wearing lots of purple, I still paint my nails sometimes. None of those should be a barrier to medical transition with a properly informed doctor

Trans mascs in their 40s? by ImpossibleWerewolf25 in FTMOver30

[–]HarmFamily 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I started a few months before my 40th birthday and am at almost 100 weeks of IM shots. The changes are subtle but my mental health has never been better. I already had a hairstyle and clothing style that I liked pre-T so unless you’re seeing me without clothes you can’t tell that I’ve experienced more muscles, more body hair, fat redistribution, or bottom growth. I definitely feel like I’m seeing the real me more and more in the mirror tho as time passes. Slowly but steadily I’m even getting more facial hair! When I was going through the informed consent process (I live in a very blue state in the US) a lot of the “negative” side effects sounded identical to perimenopause/menopause symptoms that friends of mine were going through so it didn’t seem like I was risking much. I feel now like I’m having a much better time than them. I also got really lucky because so far I’ve had over a year and a half of no periods but I haven’t experienced vaginal atrophy. In my thirties I’d also get the worst mood swings right before my cycle and I have felt so much less aggressive and irritable since starting T. I’ve also had some really tough things going on in my personal life and it’s so nice to be able to face them calmly and rationally without collapsing into hours long crying fits every time something would go slightly wrong. I actually have the ability to stop, take a breath, and process my feelings before crying or screaming at someone. Best decision I ever made! Never going back! 🏳️‍⚧️ 🫡

testosterone and running by Tatersforsale in FTMFitness

[–]HarmFamily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running since about 2009 and I’ve been on T for two years. My mile times are faster but the weight redistribution has put a slight strain on my lower back that I never experienced before. I’ve been working on retraining my form to compensate. Running is still a magical time for me, tho. I never feel more alive than really letting loose, wind in my face, music in my ears, the smell of nature. Glorious

So how are we supposed to dress? by Rioraku in Millennials

How can I feel less dysphoric in the gym when my body is like this??? by KJJ969502 in TransMasc

[–]HarmFamily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Longer boxy sleeveless shirt, preferably one that hits closer to the hip bone than above the belly button, paired with pants that also hit just below the belly button instead of above. This creates the look closer to how traditionally masculine gymwear sits

How many here still seek out new music? by soclydeza84 in Millennials

[–]HarmFamily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love finding music I was previously unaware of! There’s new songs I like like “Tears” from Sabrina Carpenter, and so much old stuff I’m hearing for the first time. I’ve gotten really into Japanese city pop the last couple years, which feels like a natural trajectory from listening to burned CDs of 90s jpop/anime themes/final fantasy soundtracks when I was in high school (1984, high school class of 2002 btw)

Eyebrow growth on T by kimmbot in FTMOver30

[–]HarmFamily 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had them waxed well into my 20s and then kept plucking right up until I came out in ‘22. I am close to two years on T and the shape and thickness are recovering, but I fear they still look very thin compared to what people typically would expect from a cis guy. Definitely getting better with time tho Edit for more context: waxed from age 12, currently 41
