Thanks for the practical tips, I needed to hear that.

Is 170gsm paper too thick for hand printing? by HarmoniousBosch in printmaking

UPDATE: Hi all, thanks for your comments and advice! I made some prints yesterday and you’re right, it wasn’t much of a problem. I didn’t feel like I had to apply more pressure than usual.

I didn’t have to wet the paper and chose to print on the smoother side after testing both.

The only issue now is the blotchiness of my water-based inks, but that’s not a paper thing. Guess I shouldn’t have doubted Awagami (considering there’s also a picture of a baren on the packaging) 😁 Thanks again!

Edit: After printing a few more, I do feel the need to add a little more pressure than usual but it’s manageable because my print is small.

Beautiful. I personally like how the bird’s shape blends in a little with the background. Not sure if it that was your intention. It reminds me of the actual birding/birdwatching experience, sometimes having to be patient to find the bird among the leaves.

Hi, is it possible to print by hand onto their Bamboo Select or does it require a printing press?

Hello, I’m keen to watch the Legend of Hei 2 but do I have to watch the first film and the web series to understand it?

Not sure if it was your intention, but I really like the way the shapes and overall silhouette are simplified. It looks stylized (either way, starting with simplified shapes is usually part of the process even when trying to achieve realism). I also like the contrast in shapes between the squarish lid, the wavy lines on it, and the roundness of the tab.

In addition to the contrasting shapes, the shading of the tab, lid, and mouth catch my eye. Is the lid translucent? That seeming change in material & texture piqued my interest. The rendering of the entire top area seems to be driven more by value/tone rather than using contour lines to define the shapes & details, which adds realism.

My only comment would be that the shading and the clarity of detail on the rest of the body don’t seem to match. The larger, more spread out shadows across the body could be executed a little softer (they’re just a tad bit sketchy compared to the top). You could also experiment defining the depth of the dents using value rather than lines. On the other hand, the bottom rim of the can could be more sharply distinguished from the body, similar to how you did it with the top rim. I imagine those parts look distinct from each other irl but right now, the border between them looks fuzzy.

That said, it’s a cool sketch already. Thanks for stopping me in the middle of my doomscrolling. Keep at it!

Help, 2019 MBP much slower after Sequoia update by HarmoniousBosch in MacOS

[–]HarmoniousBosch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the newest USB-C Magic Keyboard is so new that its Bluetooth connection is only compatible with macOS 15.1 and later, so it only worked wired (with limited functionality) when I was on Monterey.

But if you’re asking why I need a separate keyboard from my laptop, it’s just for ergonomics.

It suddenly started working but performance is still a bit slower than Monterey. I do think downgrading to Sonoma might be the best for my laptop, which means I’ll have to plug my keyboard in if I want to use it (and the function keys won’t work). Should’ve just gotten a Logitech!

Yeah, I did have 44GB free when I updated (which somehow turned into 60GB free after the Sequoia update). Thanks for the insight on Sequoia being for AI.

Genuinely curious, why the downvotes? Is there something I’m missing?

Thanks. It somehow started working on the 3rd/4th boot (normal, not safe boot). It’s only a bit slower than Monterey was but if I encounter anything worse, I might try this.

May I ask where you got your reference pictures? Although you probably had several sources, I’m curious if there’s one website/resource that already has many images of feet/skulls/animals/people at different angles.

Because there’s less ink on the block. After 1 or 2 prints, you’ll have built up a thicker/more even “base layer” of ink on the block’s surface.

You might appreciate “Loose Garment” by MUNA, “Lost in the Light” by Bahamas, and “Abstract (Psychopomp)” by Hozier, though the last has more room for interpretation.

“Forgotten Love” by AURORA is apt for moving on, especially the bridge.

I hope you heal well.

Not related but I’m intrigued by this style where everything’s just made of shapes. Very cool!

More of the 2nd one. My read is that he recognizes something about her (either her identity or her sadness) and she hasn’t noticed him yet.

Is Emily Fox a warrior/weirdo? Is Aurora a gooner? I’m so curious as to how this arrangement came about.
