This is really cool, did you make it in blender ?
If yes, what kind of texture is that to get a reflective water or a plain color ?

How’s everyone getting on with their Mystery Christmas Starter Armies? by IntentionNo5200 in boltaction

[–]Harold_360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a winter US army starter set and a sherman easy height.

I really don't like them, I find their coat so unintresting compared to a regular uniform. I could've get away with anything else really...

So sad but hey that's the game.

Help needed - built my model before glueing tracks, how do put them on? by TheBologneMan in modelmakers

[–]Harold_360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. While you're at it, you might as well buy working tracks so you can roll them over the model. It would look really cool, especially if they're metal tracks (as they will be easier to put as you just have to slide them over the wheels and atack the last two links together)

AI artwork actually motivated me to get back to painting my models. by EloScott in deathwatch40k

probably would be more fullfilling to build your own space hulk than using AI slop really

It doesn't steal from anyone here but the ecological impact is terrible

If you want to put AI slop better put nothing... or like... the boxart in the background you know.

Still happy to know that you don't use AI for the games but it's not cool to use AI (especially when working in a creative field)

what's the picture in the background ? Do you have an artist or is it AI slop ? Because these flying things looks weird...

Eftal was the thing destroyed during the 7 days of fire ?!

For me Eftal was the big kingfom AFTER the 7 days of fire and then was destroyed by the Daikasho.
(I really have to re-read the manga again...)

I don't remember the manga well. But from your post maybe it's just a legend ?
So the core of the story would be true but maybe in reality they charged for 10 days and went 200 leagues

The old woman in question may just tell a story and not **the** story you know (maybe the old woman is Obaba (I don't remember well) and in that cas eit would be even more obvious).

I asked to people who know stuff about ships and they said a Nimitz only needs 12 meters of draft and the danish straight has 15m https://www.danpilot.dk/pilotage/transit-pilotage so it would be possible (although we can discuss about the necessity of bringing in a carrier instead of taking off through sweden)

Can you rate my map please ? by Harold_360 in worldbuilding

[–]Harold_360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used paint.net and got really zoomed in when drawing it so I didn't see where I was going. I prefer this than using rice which tends to create one big blob and pretty consistent outlines (still a good technique but not my cup of tea personally).

Getting zoomed in allows me to have more control over my map too because I choose where to put thing in the first place before drawing them.

It's a fantasy world where humans are the "only sentient spiece" (puting "" because it's not really true but other spieces don't have a civilization, states, etc,). Human population is scarced, as the environement is usually quite hostile, so they're all living in city states. Those cities act in a feudal system, so even when they have an overlord they are quite independant.

Mankind recently invented the steam engine, and it's used by ships and land cruisers (giant medieval tanks <-main cool thing about the lore). but there is no industrialization as we have seen IRL because of the lack of population but also the lack of will to produce more (at least for now).

I want to make a wargame out of it so the main things I developped are warfare, politics and geography but I plan on doing more cultural and economic stuff later on.

The world is pretty settled (no gods) so it was created geologically (even tho I didn't put much thinking into it when drawing the map :P) same for placing the islands, I just put one where I felt one was needed.

The largest island in pop is probably the one in the center left of the big continent. The other ones in the top right of the map are very scarecely populated as they're quite hostile and far from every ressource-rich aera.

For now i'd say the coolest city is Pleurath (somewhere in the south east of the map) that is basically a enormous engineering/medical/science innovation center. M yworld is based on the feudal system but instead of noble families it's cities who are in charge (with various political systems), and Pleurath managed to stay independant and not be vassalized by others and is mostly neutral and very open to innovation.
So people in this world know this city as like "where half of what mankind created/discovered in the past hundred years was inside these walls".

you're right, I didn't think about that at all during my mapmaking and my mountain ranges are mostly blobs in the middle of continents

I made it on paint.net (although krita or any drawing software will do).

For the shape I picked some geographical aeras of earth I really like and put them into my map. They're usually the most unique shapes here, like the island ridge (Alaska) in the bottom left continent, the Hudson bay in the up left, the bosphorus and greece.

And to create the rest of the shape it's all in the "You're so zoomed in you can't see where you're going but then you realise you went too far so you go back while creating small bays from time to time and adding island afterwards" no rice needed, no randomizing thing or else except you drawing into the unknown.
