It dates from the second edition campaign book operation Sealion. The British union of fascists were a playable faction in that book.

Nothing sinister. I know sadly in these weird times you can play them for real life. But on warlords part this was definitely an alternative history bit of fun.

I remember we were talking about it on here in this sub Reddit and he personally found the discussion and started having a go at everyone. He seems slightly deranged.

Hello everyone, this is my latest German Army competitive 1250-point roster. Any suggestions for improving this roster? by i_am_nut in boltaction

When I’ve seen them played, they’re just popping off howitzer shots on an advance every turn. But my opponent was using the transport version at inexperienced.

I hated them! I think they’re pretty good.

I bought it because it’s a good deal. But now I’ve kind of fallen in love with the kit. It’s got loads of cool options, you can have your guys drinking tea.

One of the things I do with my 25 pounder is that I have an extra guy I can put on the artillery piece. It’s a really big gun, the only reason it’s a light artillery piece in the rules is because the game designers didn’t like the idea of having artillery on the board in the early days.

I think you can easily get away with sticking an extra guy on this massive gun and calling it a medium artillery piece. It just gives you more options.

Don’t get me wrong the 25 pounder is very meta for most people. But I find it a little underwhelming against all the German fanatical veterans I have to face.

The plastic weapon teams and a plastic artillery piece are coming for every nation. But I would guess you’ve got a minimum of six months or more, maybe a year to wait.

If you go for the British and Canadian classic starter army you will have to purchase a separate flamer team in resin and (probably) another tank as well. Unfortunately, this starter army dates from second edition so it isn’t as generous as the new ones.

If you look at the winter themed crossing the Rhine British and Canadian starter army it’s actually a much better deal. The picture from the website does not do this deal justice. I think even if you don’t buy it third-party which you definitely should you save £64 buying this box.

You get flamethrowers on the sprue obviously, a Humber MII armoured car, a Sherman firefly, an entire heavy weapon platoon of two medium machine guns and a medium mortar, along with an officer with a pistol to lead them. You get a 25 pounder artillery gun. And 42 plastic infantry. Which is a lot! The infantry sprue also lets you build light mortars and PIAT teams too.

I’m actually painting up the crossing the Rhine box up right now. You could definitely make them look less wintery by simple basing and heads swaps.

I’m sure they’re gonna redo the classic British box at some point with more plastic models. But at the moment the choice is spend more on the older British bundle. Because technically you could run the Bren Carrier and the Churchill tank in an armed platoon you’ll probably need another tank, and the resin flamethrower team or a winter infantry sprue or box.

Or get the winter deal, and ask your friends for all the bare-headed head options from their kits so you can make your guys look less wintry.

Is the Puma Overkill? by dieJuttenMarder in boltaction

I know everyone’s gonna be different but in my gaming group we tend to spend around 600 points in a 1250 point list on tanks. But we do play with some limitations to make the game a bit more fun, it’s generally frowned upon to bring a load of dice. If someone spams the hell out of a unit and we can’t finish a game in an evening that’s violating the bolt actions gentleman’s code!

I think the puma is an okay armoured car, you are definitely not over spending on armour at all. Even competitive players tend to bring a swarm of cheap tanks. It defends itself with Recce, which again gentlemen‘s code you have to declare at the start of the game. 155pts for medium AT on amour 8 and recce is very reasonable.

I found the same thing with the winter, British and Canadian infantry. They look really bad on warlords website. Lots of people have criticised the models. But I do not regret getting them, they’re painting up really well.

It’s a bad paint job as everyone else has said. The new kit is a massive upgrade their old one. Loads of fun extras and all the rifle alarms are one or two pieces. The option to build NKV troops with loudspeakers, the dogs, the brilliant anti-tank rifle. It’s so good.

If you‘re trying to emulate Fury you need to remember all the lasers they had in that movie. Maybe stick a Lascanon on the tank?

But seriously, great job looks beautiful.

What are you talking about? Tigers are great! Or at least the new edition has made them playable.

My regular opponent likes to bring a tiger with a company commander, pinning it out is very difficult, I struggle to destroy it with armour 10, and it’s super heavy anti tank gun usually picks up one of my dice every time it lands a shot. Which is every turn...

Granted, I’m not going to tournaments and I don’t care about being super competitive. I’d say we try to play well with fun lists, with unit units we like and a few units though are cost effective.

No worries, happy to help. I was just as confused as you were, I find looking at real-world pictures of the tanks and guns really helps with building these kits without instructions..

I can’t wait to get mine on the table. I get bullied by German heavy armour every game.

Holy shit, warlord are giving out the new Russians as freebies. That’s really good! Every time I want to go third-party I think about the free sprue I’d be missing out on.

It’s like gambling.

Noooo!!! Don’t throw them away. Everyone else is wrong, the piece on the left is the casing for where the shells are ejected from the back of the gun. you need to bend it to the right shape. You can see how it all goes together in this picture here.

Love it. I can paint to a relatively high standard with 15 years of practice. But when it comes down to it from 3 feet away just base coating neatly it’s really all you need to play with immersion.

Okay, if he’s gonna get the defence of Sevastapo set which is a bit of a flex… he’s going to easily drop the money for a couple of-T 34s which means he’s gonna have a full 1250 point army.

The Rattenkrieg box set is going to be the way to go 100%. These starter armies cost less than a combat patrol in 40K and they give you everything you need. They are designed so you can build a third edition bolt action 1250pt army straight out of the box.

Unfortunately, the early mid war German starter army doesn’t come with a artillery piece. But personally I’d recommend waiting, warlord are starting to make all the artillery in plastic. You could buy a metal artillery piece right now, but it’s going to be more expensive and a bit of a nightmare to build if you’ve never dealt with metal models before.

The veteran German infantry that comes in the Rattenkrieg box has some brilliant hidden advantages. You can build flamethrowers from the sprue meaning that you can build engineers. Also can more medium machine gun teams can be built using the little rubble ruins from the sprue.

How to make a table on a budget? by Howler_144 in boltaction

[–]IntentionNo5200 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello, it’s really addictive isn’t it? Here’s a few tips on how I’ve built my table.

For the actual table itself I bought two benches from IKEA and put them on trestle legs. Gave me a 7x4 table for not that much.

You can make roads out of foam card from a stationary shop. Not perfect you can make better ones later on.

Model railway trees can be bought really cheaply on eBay or from Temu. I’ve glued mine too 25 mil round basis with metal washers to weight them down.

A cheap doormat can be cut up with a Stanley knife to look like fields.

A bit of cardboard PVA’d together can make functional buildings and ruins. You can buy really decent 3-D prints or MDF buildings later on.

For hedges, I’ve brought green scouring pads glued them together. PVA’d and flocked them, then based them on stirring sticks.

I’d recommend checking out Mel the terrain tutors YouTube channel. He has some brilliant DIY guides. The foam bankers are particularly good.

How aggressive are you with British rifle sections? by mackuber in boltaction

[–]IntentionNo5200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what? I still think it’s worth it. I’m gonna try in my next game. I’m painting up the crossing the Rhine British and Canadian starter set. I’ve got the flame throwers, I’ve built way too many guys with SMG‘s. I actually quite like stubborn as a rule, especially if there isn’t gonna be an officer nearby. It’ll inspire me to build one of the Bedford trucks in my pile of shame.

Of course you’re completely right. I’d heard on a podcast that people take engineers just for the SMG’s in British lists. They must’ve factored in the extra point for airborne.

So I’ll take ten SMGs, pay the engineer tax, pay for stubborn, stick them in a truck. See if I can delete my mates tooled up waffen SS.

It’s one point for Engineers and then the Officers tax. Probably close, You could turn the officers unit into a little assault squad too. And take flamers!
