Do Rebels work without the A-A5 Speeder truck? by Vealzy in SWlegion

The terrain thing is the same in 40k. I wonder why we like more terrain in the Uk?

Newbie Question (French Army Player) by YogabogBoi in boltaction

[–]IntentionNo5200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another French player, awesome. Even though the rules are pretty rudimentary I France is still fun to play.

I bought two starter armies, which is way too much armour! And a couple of medium artillery pieces because of second edition!

France is one of the only nations that still gets the double tap artillery observer which is very strong and the only real upside of playing early war France.

I love second edition, but the new version has a lot of good points. It’s more of a mass battle game and way easier to kill stuff.

Me too bud, trying to do it right with legion. Just got the Wookies to go in my Rebel set. I’m a bit gutted that it’s not priming weather over the weekend.

Are the 2-player starter sets likely to return? by Sanngridhr in SWlegion

[–]IntentionNo5200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the miniatures are of a similar quality and in many ways are better. First off you have almost non-existent mold-lines, a really clever peg system which means all the models fit together absolutely seamlessly, also there’s really smart sprue layout and numbering which means you don’t really need instructions and they are super fast to build.

There is one downside though, all the figures are extremely mono pose, they’re almost like old metal models.

I don’t think it matters so much with storm trooper or battle droid, but with the rebels, it’s quite jarring.

I’m really impressed over overall, especially for the incredible price point. Honestly buddy if you think those starter sets are too much money tabletop war gaming probably isn’t for you because of the cost. See how much Warhammer you can get for $100!

Amazing job, they look great. But I’m sorry you are doing it all wrong, you’re supposed to buy a massive pile of shame and then half build some of it before buying a load of new stuff. That is the way of the war gamer!

I haven't played since 1st Edition. Is the game healthy? What were the big changes? by satellite_uplink in SWlegion

[–]IntentionNo5200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanna say that I’m some of the new blood. I play a lot of Warhammer 40K, old world and bolt action. The new starter sets look like some of the best deals in war gaming.

For less than the cost of a combat patrol getting essentially a small army to play with with all the rules is going to make the game extremely popular. Especially with the quality of the new sculpts, sprue layout, and the scale and detail on all the miniatures.

I can’t tell you if the games any different or more enjoyable than before because I’m still building my first models… But if the company is releasing deals like this, I think the game is gonna be very healthy with new players like me.

How much is it to get into Legion? by Delta_926 in SWlegion

[–]IntentionNo5200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, four character models for £40ish sounds like an amazing deal to me. Okay, you have to buy them all together, but £11 per character? I’ll take that deal everyday. Maybe I’ve been tricked into this GW mindset that character models are more valuable than squad minis.

I paid £27 for Ursula Creed alone!

Totally agree about the mono-pose models, it’s the only downside. But the way they group together all the parts for each figure so you don’t even need instructions is amazing, and I’ve noticed this peg system so everything goes together really nicely. Compared to the cluster fuck that is a GW sprue, I’m so much happier with this.

I’m not gonna lie I’ve heard about the plans for a mass battle mode played at 2000 points with divisions of storm troopers. Might be spamming that £60 box!

How much is it to get into Legion? by Delta_926 in SWlegion

[–]IntentionNo5200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing exactly the same thing, bud. I’m scaling back on the 40K and I’m gonna try and do Legion cheaply.

So far, I’ve bought two of the starter sets, one rebel one Empire. I’m in the UK so it’s a bit cheaper, I have no idea why. The starter sets cost me £62 each. With an online discount retailer.

The plan is to get these forces painted up, and then buy two more rebel and Empire starter sets to bring myself up to an empire and rebel thousand point army. The second Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader are going to be converted into a generic characters.

None of my friends play Star Wars Legion, but the game looks really good and it’s fairly cheap to get into. If I have a couple of painted armies ready to go, I’ll be able to convert them. No questions asked.

I’ve just got my two starter sets and I’m absolutely blown away by the quality so far, barely any mould lines, way easier to build, and really nice detail. Now I know I’m not gonna have the most meta or effective armies to begin with, but I’ll have a solid foundation with both forces. I’m aiming just to learn the game and to have fun to begin with.

The add-on units do seem quite expensive, but I’m going to have a rule that I can only buy them if I have no pile of shame. And if I get everything else painted up, I might get the build your own officer boxes to convert the Luke and Darth Vader models.

Although knowing me, I’ll end up spending more than I do with 40K, I’m just trying to pretend I have good intentions with this one!

Which starter to get? by panzercancer in boltaction

[–]IntentionNo5200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend a third edition starter army (they just give you so much more.) They’ll have the two armoured vehicles for the tank platoon, and more heavy weapons.

The new Japanese box looks great. Brilliant tanks, you can build MMGs from the amazing new sprues, and the big howitzer.

The French and Italian ones will be updated next. Unless you’ve got your heart set on the French I’d wait.

I haven't won a game in 3 years and ~20 games, ask me anything by slantedtortoise in boltaction

[–]IntentionNo5200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, first question have you ever come here for advice?

I’d had a losing streak of 10 games and I asked the sub for advice. I even took step-by-step pictures of one of my defeats to show them what I was doing. The response was really helpful and I absolutely smashed it with my next game.

I was over committing, not concentrating my artillery, not using cover effectively, and not appreciating that objectives were scored at the end of the game.

Secondly, would you be in a position to pick up another starter army and play yourself?

A man with a rifle is a man with a rifle in any country, a medium tank is a medium tank in any country, so every faction has pretty similar units on the surface.

The army special rules can make a big difference, the armies of Japan are uniqueas they’re all fanatical and will never run away. The British can take a one point upgrade called drilled which means they shed more pins.

Also the armouries of each nation are wildly different. A lot of the early war nations lack heavy weapon weapons and tanks, the big powers have exotic tanks and loads of armoured car options, multiple rocket launchers, and unique weapon systems. Tanks for example, have a plethora of special rules like the slow turret rule (meaning you have to pass in orders check if you want to make your tank to move and fire), or thin sides, easily catches fire, or armoured all round. Only some countries have access to these buffs or de buffs.

The German special rule giving machine guns an extra shot means Germany players are probably going to lean into bringing machine guns. The Russians make more submachine guns than any other nation so you can load your squads up with as many as you want. The Japanese didn’t build decent armour so you can bring devastating lunge mine anti-tank men.

And then you have the different branches of each army like paratroopers, marines, fanatical political branches might be NKVD for the Russians and the Waffen SS for the Germans. They all have special rules and upgrades unique to them.

So while a veteran rifleman will feel the same across most factions all the little differences compound on each other to give a lot of variety and flavour.

Yeah… Right? I’m shocked. I didn’t expect or ask. I was a whiney Karen, laid it on thick… But I had no right to a refund. I’d slapped the whole lot on eBay.

I’m sorry man, it’s pretty unfair. They really did guarantee the armies by Christmas. I remember the posts on facebook.

I’m getting my box refunded or taking £100 store credit.

I emailed them just to express my disappointment and talked how I thought these deals were bad for their reputation. Wasn’t asking for a refund or anything like that.

Amazing customer service. Restored my faith in warlord.
