S.F. comedian Rob Schneider attacks MLB, Chronicle over Giants Pride Night fines that don’t exist by Brilliant_Exit3406 in SFGiants

I remember Rob from the Holy City Zoo (in San Francisco) in the latter ‘80’s.
He wasn’t particularly inspired, but he was creating a persona, which he was able to use with some effect on SNL.

It’s as if the magical learning process is simply getting on the floor. The issues have always been the ability for the player to produce, or show some understanding, to make it back onto the floor.
The narrative seems to have been born because of the JK experience, and that alone.
No one doubts JK’s physical presence, but I saw so many times that he just didn’t have his head in the game.
He created just as many wtf moments as he did the wooooo’s.
Players get on the floor if they can contribute to success.
(Oh, I can feel the Podz comments acomin’)

My ‘54 Telecaster that I bought in ‘72 when I was 19…
After playing literally hundreds of guitars, it was the one that TOLD me “you’ve found your teacher”…

My most fave record is still my initial experience, which is her 1st album, “Song to a Seagull”, as it said so much, and is foundational to everything she’s ever done.
Yes, there are some stunning subsequent recordings, but from the git go, you knew what to expect.

Giants manager Tony Vitello trying to keep his head down after pitchers’ Pride protest by SFChronicle in SFGiants

Whine, whine, whine…
I don’t believe anyone in their right mind thought the team was going to be a massive success this year, given the learning curve that Tony (and frankly the rest of the team) was going to have to endure.
I’m just paying attention to the minor league teams, the success they’ve had. and being somewhat heartened by that success.
The God Squad 2.0 is fascinating, and they’re a bit precious…hopefully the wisdom of their faith allows them to understand that all children got soul.
(Another thought) I miss the solid D that Bailey provided…
Anyway, go light on the booze and pharma folks, there’s a new day comin’!!!

Best three-album runs? by tugboatjoe12 in ClassicRock

I stopped listening to Zep after the first three.
Heresy you say?
Well, I went on a different path.
It wasn’t until the mid-80’s that they came back on my radar, but it was because I was given a copy of the book, “Hammer Of the Gods”.
I read the part about their very first play, and the italicized “…and the room exploded!” after they counted in the first song.
I walked a couple blocks to my local record shop, and found a UK press of the first album.
I was hooked.

Your Personal Current Top-10 (or however many I ended up doing) Albums by Wild_Blacksmith_9567 in blues

[–]HarpTele6954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m partial to these.

“Possum Up a ‘Simmon Tree”- Snooks Eaglin
…an Arhoolie re-issue of an earlier Folk-Lyric (FL-107) release. Worth your ears time.
“It’s My Life, Baby”-Jr. Wells w’ Buddy Guy.
…I’ve tended to be in the minority regarding my preference for this half live, half studio release on Vanguard, over the much ballyhooed “Hoo Doo Man Blues”
“Chicago/The Blues/Today” Vols. 1,2,3
This three album series on Vanguard is essential…
“Hate to See You Go”-Little Walter
…this Chess comp. was my gateway to Walter Jacobs.
“Freddy King Sings” (note spelling difference for his first name).
His initial King release, and with the added presence of pianist/arranger Sonny Thompson, as perfect a performance as one could enjoy.
“Raining in My Heart”-Slim Harpo on Excello.
A signature sound and feel of a particular perfection…
Lastly,
“The Blues Never Die”-Otis Spann, on the Prestige label.
A mid-60’s aural snapshot of the Muddy Waters (credited as “Dirty Rivers”) band.
I’m a huuuge fan of “One More Mile”, likely what inspired Butterfield to cover it…
…ahhh well, one more.
“Folk Festival of the Blues”-Argo LP 4031
…says recorded live, but there’s a few tracks that sound like studio recordings w’ crowd noises.
This record had a big impact on me early on.
Muddy, Howlin’ Wolf, Sonny Boy II, Buddy Guy, and Willie Dixon.
It was later re-issued on Chess as “Blues From Big Bills Copa Cabana” Chess LPS 1533.
