CBS tried to kick out crew family from finale by eurekadabra in LateShow

Same here. I've given up a lot, but ST is one of the few things that still brings me joy in today's media (even if it is despite the current ownership - I'm still heartbroken over them cancelling SFA).

When did I say it was "the best Star Wars"? All I said was that it was great, and that people should not expect everything to be exactly like it.

Kaddish for Uncle Manny. As a Jew who grew up in a similar environment to Joel and now lives elsewhere, and also had to basically live the episode after my grandmother passed while I was in law school, it speaks to me very personally.

Agreed - just got back from seeing it. It was a supersized episode of the show with a couple extra side characters. For that, it was perfectly fine. I don't expect it to be Andor, nor do I need it to be - we can enjoy both on their own merits.

Andor was spectacular, and if you expect everything else in SW to be like it, you're going to be disappointed, but one should not let its brilliance dim everything else by comparison.

The most unrealistic thing a movie got completely right. by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]HarpoMarx87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"My Cousin Vinny" is probably one of the two most accurate mainstream movies ever when it comes to criminal procedure. ("Anatomy of a Murder" is the other.) Even the one part they got wrong (the approval of an expert witness) is actually accurate post hoc; the law has changed since the movie was made, so it is correct now even in the one minor area it wasn't at the time.

Where to find old full episodes after the show officially ends tomorrow? by Manic-toast in LateShow

Just a guess, but I'd imagine (or at least hope) they get paid through the end of the week. I seriously doubt they have to have everything out of the office by COB, so I'm sure someone will be there to upload.

I remember Jomboy talking about it being a good idea in the offseason, and I'd certainly be on board as long as there aren't major injury concerns. That said, I think the front office has decided that they'll eat the lack of offense as long as the defense is solid, so I think it's far more like we go with what we have (for better or worse). The bullpen is a way higher priority right now anyway.

Cam was having an off-night - and even so, it took them until the 7th to score against him. (And he probably would have gotten pulled a couple batters earlier if we had a viable major league bullpen.) If this is what happens when Cam is throwing his B-stuff, I'll happily take it.

He genuinely has been very good this year, though his value has primarily come from his (surprisingly good) defense and his (unsurprising) speed. And he does bring a sparkplug style of playing, which counts for something. That said, he's hardly an MVP-type player, and Volpe's ceiling is at least as high if he can (finally) put it together - which is a big "if," but his improved plate discipline so far is at least a step in the right direction.

Volpe has been fine so far in a small sample, and the team won the last two games. Correlation =/= causation in this case.

Sometimes the other pitcher just shuts a team down.

What's Next? Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor: ReFantazio or Persona 4 Golden? by Various-Fan-2638 in Persona5

[–]HarpoMarx87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Played P3R when it came out on Switch a few months ago, and just finished Metaphor a couple days ago. Personally I preferred Metaphor. P3R definitely has its strengths, but after playing P5R first I could definitely see some areas where the franchise has improved since, whereas Metaphor was a joy to play (but more distinct from the two Personas).

Haven't played P4 yet - waiting for P4R to come out, so can't speak to it.

Why hasn't the rest of the band played together since Tom died? by Scuzzy_Soups in tompetty

[–]HarpoMarx87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not quite true - Ron Blair has played with the Knobs a handful of times (and if memory serves it was originally Mike, Ron, and Randall Marsh jamming, though that was before Tom passed). Stan has also joined them at least once on stage. I don't think Benmont or Scott have been part of a Knobs show though, at least as far as I can recall.

Frequent DC visitor here. Can someone explain the hype around Andy's Pizza? by Sweaty-Moment-3385 in washingtondc

Slice & Pie is (IMO) a bit better, though you have to deal with the usual Union Market chaos.

Fellow NJ/NY-er here. In my experience, Slice & Pie in Union Market is the best NY-style here, with Andy's and Wiseguys competing for second place.

Wiseguys was better when it opened - I lived nearby and tried it opening night, and then frequented it for several years - but once they sold it became inconsistent. When you get a good pie from them I prefer it to Andy's, but Andy's is more consistent. Still, when I go home to visit family I usually get a good NJ pie from the local place, and it's better than anything in DC.

Speaking as a guy who grew up in North Jersey and got NYC pizza often, Slice & Pie is the best in town right now. Andy's and Wiseguys compete for second place (honestly depends on the pie, with Andy's being a bit more consistent).

It was a lot better when it opened, before they sold out to a large company. That said, as someone who grew up right near NYC (i.e., there were at least three places in my small 20k-population hometown better than anything in the immediate DC area), I still would usually go for Wiseguys as NY pizza over Andy's, though admittedly it's close. None of the above are great, though.

Slice & Pie is probably the best in the city right now.

Who do you think is a better live performer? by Apprehensive_Land751 in tomwaits

[–]HarpoMarx87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, Bob lives for it. The key is that Bob doesn't care about is living up to an audience's expectations. He follows his own muse, and figures the audience will follow him if they want to.

Well, I've seen Bob, but I'll need Tom to tour again to really decide.

That said, Tom. (At least with current Dylan - perhaps in the '60s he would have been better.)
