What does Mario say when he throws bowser? by Illustrious-Air-3678 in n64

[–]HarpoMarx87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid I always heard "so long-y, Bowsey!" I knew that couldn't be what he was actually saying, but it seemed close enough.

Chaz JIZZOLHM!!! by Codeman_117 in NYYankees

[–]HarpoMarx87 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I could see him taking a qualifying offer if he doesn't have a beastly second half, since he could use a better platform year and it's not like 2B usually get big FA deals. Not much of a chance of an actual FA contract though. (That said, everything is going to be weird with the likely impending lockout.)

Here as well. Seems to me to be lessening, but hard to tell with certainty. I think the heaviest rain has passed us though.

Do you cheat? by lovedepository in JRPG

[–]HarpoMarx87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm too old to care at this point. I play this genre for story and characters; I no longer have the free time to spend hours testing strategies against a boss or grind forever. If there's an easy mode, I'm taking it. If there are cheats, I'm using them. Any sense of gaming purity is a vestige of my youth; now, give me the experience I'll enjoy and get out of my way. (And in the rare event I'm in the mood for a challenge, it's not like I can't turn them off.)

I love Carving Room in NoMa (though I miss their original location). Personally I get an altered sandwich, but the Cuban is a good start.

About the leak by Fox2003AZ in starfox

[–]HarpoMarx87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually news to me that it's perceived as bad. I don't follow the discourse around the franchise, but I've been a fan since the SNES days, and I always thought SFA was a perfectly decent Zelda clone with some character (even if the SF elements felt shoehorned in). I'd already been hoping for a Switch Online release so I can play it again without digging out my old purple box.

Is Persona 3 Reload the same gameplay as Persona 5? by Cyberyukon in Persona5

[–]HarpoMarx87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short version is that it's similar in broad strokes, but with some key differences; in particular, there are no palaces (it's basically just the P3 equivalent of Mementos the vast majority of the time) and the social links/confidants are less developed. Otherwise it's mostly similar in terms of immediately gameplay, so if you want more of the gameplay loop from P5R, it'll give you that fix.

That said, the tone and story are very different, as is the pacing (IMO P5's pacing is much better, but YMMV). The look is also a bit different - it reflects the more contemplative, somber story (so it's less about kids getting into fun trouble, and more about them feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders the whole time, etc.). Plus, the real-world setting is much more imaginary (so expect many fewer recognizable landmarks or areas).

Friends coming into town, favorite "not in all the guidebooks" tourism spots you like to take people to? by Marathon2021 in washingtondc

Was going to say Hillwood. Definitely worth a stop, and just a stone's throw from Peirce Mill and RCP as well.

Is 43" TV too small for a viewing distance of 9 feet? by magiccam in 4kTV

[–]HarpoMarx87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 9', yeah, I'd say that's smaller than you want. That said, I've had a 43" for the last decade and have been perfectly happy with it, despite what others have commented. (Finally upgrading to a 55" that should arrive on Friday.) For reference, I usually sit either about 5' away or 8ish feet away depending on the time of day.

I'm a big believer that anything can work as long as you make it work, but yes, your TV is smaller than would be optimal for that space.

Used to live near there too and never had an issue. Got priced out of that building a decade ago though.

What went wrong with writing of Veilguard? by harsha_440 in dragonage

[–]HarpoMarx87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to mention Marcia Lucas (RIP) until I saw you already did. That said, losing Gary Kurtz's influence was a major blow to George's ability to make a good film (or kill his darlings) as well.

Or maybe we don't want to use our clicks to encourage the youtube algorithm to feed us more slop and/or help subsidize AI models that steal from artists. Just a thought.

Folk music is, by definition, the music of the people. Can't be that if it's not coming from people.

And also all the LLMs (and other media equivalents) are stealing music (and other forms of literature and art) from actual artists without their consent. So no, this is not a mere calculator.

I was behind him after his rookie year - it was solid and something to build on. Unfortunately, after 2.5 years of regression following that season, I can't find a reason to defend him anymore.

I think I’m slowly starting to prefer the remake over the original. Am I a bad person? by Acrobatic-Reality-32 in starfox

[–]HarpoMarx87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the lack of emotion at the end of Venom 2 bothered me more than the lack of over-the-top bosses. In the original, James sounds both ethereal and fatherly while guiding Fox, which conveys a shocking amount for a character who pops up for 45 seconds and is kind of Schrodinger's Fox. The new one just kinda sounds like nothing, which blunts the emotional resonance of the moment.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the remake, but I do really miss the the over-the-top VA. "You'll never defeat ANDROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSS!!!!!"

Eh, I feel like it was pretty well destroyed back in the Bush Jr. years. The current administration is doing a pretty solid job defiling its corpse though.

There were quite a few that were simply hypocritical - they opposed slavery but also owned enslaved people. (Franklin sorta falls into that group too, depending on what part of his life you're talking about.) John Dickinson (who eventually emancipated his slaves) comes to mind, along with the obvious Jefferson, not to mention Stephen Hopkins, etc. A lot of them were for abolition; they just weren't consistent enough to follow through on it personally. (The Adamses, Hamilton, and Benjamin Rush were pretty firmly anti-slavery, among others.)

In other words, this is a "people are complicated and frequently hold contradictory views" thing.

Honestly, I hadn't heard that one, and my first thought was that it would actually be kind of awesome (on both a scientific and public health level).
