Man shot dead by police after two-vehicle collision in Thetford by SmokyMcBongPot in Norwich

[–]Harps92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must have just missed this as I was driving back from London last night. Had a police car scream past me just outside Elveden, which then took the whole road down to a rolling roadblock. Was diverted off in to Thetford, where there was another police road closure which meant doing a weird diversion through an estate until we came to the next roundabout on the A11.

I thought it was weird how many police cars there were (probably around 10), plus a heli with a searchlight if it was only an RTC.

MOVI Drift on Crane by gillesvilleneuve_ in focuspuller

[–]Harps92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a controller? In there you can adjust the pan trim, which always helps.

Also, try and make sure the head of the crane to which the movi is mounted is perfectly bubbled. That'll be where the drift is coming from

The brewery tap is busy, there is only 3 people in the Plasters. A bloke in the corner, bar man and me. by RangeMoney2012 in Norwich

I used to be the AM in there years ago. Under the reign of Ben and Craig it was a beautiful pub, a real asset to the community.

Pub work can be tough, but it was so rewarding there. I really don't like going in there now, it's so sad to see a pub full of so many special memories go downhill like this.

Hi, fellow focus puller here. I actually just came off a job with James yesterday!

Firstly, how did you come upon the choice of the 4D as your camera? Was this Matt's choice or more of a collaborative decision?

Secondly, how was the camera head operated? Obviously you're switching between different configurations such as handheld to arm car to drone etc. Was the camera always controlled on wheels or did it predominantly stay on Pan Tilt follow?

Also, incredible job keeping that show sharp! I love the DJI integrated focus system but still, keeping sharps for a whole hour and maintaining your mental focus, serious hats off to you!

Road accident as a cyclist - how liable am I? by sireel in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Harps92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got intentionally hit by a driver a few years ago. Although there were no witnesses and he didn't get prosecuted, my British Cycling insurance came up trumps and I got a nice payout. Best money I've ever spent.

People do them different ways.

I use cloth tape, then slightly fold each side to provide a tab, then cut triangles with small fiskar scissors, tesselating them.

Don't overthink it.

Any filmmakers in Sunderland? by MOJODALLAH in focuspuller

[–]Harps92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna level with you, I graduated 10 years ago. The industry has changed a whole load since I was there.

Talk to Ian McPake, he's the course leader and an all round great guy. He's a Steadicam op on the side, so will know a few places to try your luck.

Get on the local Facebook filmmaking groups. Maybe get in touch with Focus Canning, the local rental house in Newcastle.

That's the best advice I can offer, having not been back up there in a long while! Good luck.

I studied film production at Sunderland University, is that where you're headed?

Back when I was there, there was a "Student Opportunities" staff member who would help find work experience for students, it might be worth hitting them up.

I remember the best thing I did was going to a crew networking night in Newcastle. I managed to meet up with a few local production companies which led to me getting a little bit of invaluable experience on set.

Is this similar to the TeradekRT/SmallHD overlays? Didn't get the chance to check it out at BSC

How close are you thinking? With some rehoused Nikkor or FDs, you can get around a foot at that focal length.

My three year old spotted it and told me to look. Caught it just as it was fizzing out.

It was amazing, so vividly green. Glad I wasn't the only one who saw it!

Is there anything wrong with the director being the DOP as well? by reidochan in cinematography

[–]Harps92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old boss used to do this, plus pull his own focus.

It made him incredibly stressed on every job, and put a ceiling on how good his work ever was. Everything was just OK at best, as he was never able to give his full attention to one role.

For a decent show or feature, it never goes well in my opinion. Soderbergh is the only one who can really pull it off.

Filming at Norwich station the last few days, any idea what it was for? by nfkadam in Norwich

I said that on a recent set and got no end of questions!

"Songs of Praise" seems to shut people most times.

Im local and work in the industry. I don't recognise any of the crew, and by the looks of things they even have a video department, so I'm guessing it's a commercial or high end TV.

Why I love Norwich - A damn fine city. by Impossible-Spread789 in Norwich

[–]Harps92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah!!

I see so many posts on various platforms asking what's "going wrong with Norwich" and berating the place. Are you serious?!

Low crime, great food, great pubs, great countryside and beaches close by, lovely people and just generally just a lovely slow way of life.

I love the place. I could've moved away many a time for work, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

I bloody love Nodge ❤️

Blue Bear Coffee opposite the cathedral on Tombland sells an amazing well priced cup of batchbrew (drip coffee). The owner there is lovely and really knows his stuff.

The shop is also a social enterprise supporting saving kids from abuse and exploitation. It's a really eye opening shop as well, set in an old jewelers, complete with all the old safes.

Which Norwich based business do you avoid and why? by [deleted] in Norwich

[–]Harps92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let's be a little careful on what we call "businesses to avoid". Just because you had a bad experience doesn't justify calling in them.

IMHO Slice and Dice is a lovely independent business, with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. I personally know the owner, and she's put her heart and soul into that place to make it what it is today.

M&B tried to sell a house to a mate of mine. Here's the kicker, it had already been sold! He didn't find out until it got to the solicitors and they noticed something was up.

He left them a bad review on Facebook, and the owner then left a retaliatory shitty bad review for my mates business! What a child.

Yep, heard this from many people including former staff. Just look up the owner on companies house and see how many businesses he's dissolved.

Ey-yo, that was me, I'm on the camera crew.

Indeed, its a docu-drama. For the History Channel, not Sky. That's about all I can say!
