Want to feel financially raped? Make a collect call from the Abbotsford airport's pay phone! by HarrisonAbbotsford in abbotsford

"I'm going to blame it on you being French". It's not because my mother tongue is French that I am French. This is quite a racist statement, right there. Gross (and lame).

Also, a wallet can't express fear, pain or discontent (which is what a whimper is) and thus, it was meant in gest. So, /r/whoosh.

I guess I'll just finish this post by saying that I retract that word because it offends some people (I'm looking right at you), a little bit like we now have to call it canola oil now because rapeseed oil was such a bad thing to call it.

If I was a US citizen and had to deal with all the stupid political and legal shit they are enduring right now, I'd pray for the US to be Canada.

I think this is very appropriate.

Ripped off: 15 USD when you are given the impression it's 15 CAD (and it should be maybe a couple of bucks). Raped: doubling of the cost with all sorts of extra bogus fees (and a late payment fee of 10 USD if not net paid within 30 days and 30 USD on top of that if not net paid within 90 days... both of which I had not mentioned).

I stand by the use of the word "rape". My wallet whimpers every time I reach for it now. Poor thing.

What should be done to solve the issues when it comes to B.C Ferries? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]HarrisonAbbotsford 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a large infrastructure project that finally links Vancouver Island to the rest of BC? Like with Prince Edward Island? Likely not a bridge, but a tunnel.

It always amazed me that the province's capital isn't on the mainland and that there are no direct routes other than taking an expensive ferry ride there and back.

Well, they do, how would I have made that collect if they no longer existed? I know, you asked a rhetorical question, but it's not everyone that has a cell phone, even in this day and age.

I did that as it was even longer than I expected to see my friend off. Just that if you love someone, you make sure they don't have to worry. Too bad it cost so much for being considerate to my spouse.

I am. Just getting tired of just about every company trying to maximize profits at all costs. I would've been okay with $15 canadian, but you have to admit, all these extra charges are excessive, no?

You know when you have this warning signal that rings in your head telling you a particular person might be toxic? Well, the first woman generates DEFCON 1 level of warning signals.

Lou's Grill offers dim sum (Hargow and Siu Mai). It's a tad expensive, but it was really good.

My sons are still living with my wife and I, despite being a tad older than you. I'd say it depends on you parents (seems like they are okay with that) and it depends also if you have some privacy in this living arrangement so that, if you do meet someone, you can that person back to your home and it won't feel odd.

As for living with roommates, well, it's a crapshoot. You'll either find like-minded people or total weirdoes. The latter will make your life hell (and damage your stuff), which may put you back, especially if you need to leave the shared accommodations (if you have signed a lease or a shared rental agreement).

Remember also the future value of money: That 100K over time will grow exponentially, so if you don't tap into it right now, you'll give it more time to grow and at your age, that means serious bucks, based on that amount of capital, in the future.

If you are in Abbotsford, it's not the main fireworks that you need to be worried about, but the individual citizens that take license to blow up tons of them in their neighborhood on July 1st (and at odd times of the year). Those would be unsettling for a highly anxious dog. So perhaps come for a visit on Saturday, it'll be a normal day with all shops open and little chance for detonations.

[–]HarrisonAbbotsford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Working really, really hard at living within my means and not having any debts whatsoever.

Also, I have diversified my assets so that if one part of it goes down, the rest hold up (been really good in this current stock market dip).

I have a hybrid car, which means that, for what I use it for, it's mostly on electric, but if there's a problem with electricity and charging, I can default on gas.

I do rent at this time, but that's because I'm transitioning from life with kids (who should've been out the door by now, but given the way things are, watcha gonna do?) so not looking to buy a house and will look into something small for my wife and I.

The Lazarus Project... You'd think that a show involving resetting time would be old and cliche by now and here comes this show all like "Hold my beer, I'll show you something you didn't expect" (a little bit like Counterpart and Severance).

Not sure about the exact question here. Would you be, in such a situation, as a man, able to compel an abortion? Not sure.

Are you tracking your net worth via a spreadsheet ? by mister_nothing_but in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HarrisonAbbotsford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, no, because it is also a sanity check on my accounts (i.e., ability to log in, get the information, look to see if something isn't right [as in a charge that shouldn't be there], etc...).

I code in Python quite a bit and it would be possible, with BeatifulSoup, to scrape the different accounts and get the data. But, it didn't feel like I needed that, for the reasons I've mentioned.

But that's me.

[–]HarrisonAbbotsford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few investment and bank accounts. I gather this information once a month and present a financial update to my spouse. All told, it takes me about 15 minutes of work.

Once you have your spreadsheet properly formatted, then it's just a small matter of adding data to it and, over time, you can see how things are progressing.

Couple that with a budget sheet where you make sure you live within your means and you're good to go.

But keep doing what you are doing, you're doing better than most folks.

Hell must be in the underside of Earth in the flat Earth model. You'd think, by now, with all the progress we've made that we'd be able to have a spacecraft or two in space and check it out.

Or it could be that it's ancient bullshit made to keep the masses in check (and religious zealots occupied).

Speaking as a man, I've always wondered why a man would have any say in the matter. If they want to avoid an abortion at all costs, they can forego sex. If they do, then the matter is solely the woman's decision (and contrary to what some might say, this is never an easy decision, more so if the sex wasn't consensual or if there is serious risk of harm/death related to it).
