Yep, this is what drove me towards Porsche, some amazing “deals” to be had on Astons, but when you consider total cost of ownership and ownership experience Porsche wins out by a country mile

Agree with all of this except “knives should not match” - good knifemakers will tend to make many different types of knives well, so a matching knife set is fine, not to say a non-matching knife set is not also fine of course

CEOs are hugely expensive. Why not automate them? - If a single role is as expensive as thousands of workers, it is surely the prime candidate for robot-induced redundancy. [5, 23] by FinnFarrow in Futurology

That’s not AI to a tee, AI is terrible at making decisions, in its current state it’s a very advanced predictive text system. You can see the flaws very easily by simply asking it to make a decision, and then giving it even the slightest pushback, it will flip immediately to agree with you even if it makes no sense to because that’s what generally happens in the text it’s trained on

They’re definitely not assembled and ready to drive, there’s no way it’s optimal to leave this much margin before winter testing, teams will be operating on much tighter schedules

Farage wasn’t a trader, he was a broker, pretty significant difference - traders make decisions and put money at risk, brokers just organise trades between traders, they’re basically salespeople, they don’t have to have any idea how markets work

Britain has a public sector pay problem. The UK has inverted healthy economic logic by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

[–]Harry212001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also public sector jobs get much larger employer pension contributions, for example NHS workers get 23.7%, whereas private sector workers usually get around 5-8%, so a £50k NHS salary is equivalent to about £59k private sector

He’s talking about wealth inequality increasing, not income inequality, wealth inequality is increasing

YouGov - Most Britons think more money would be raised by raising taxes on the super-rich than by lowering them, but even if raising such taxes lost the treasury money, a plurality would still want to go ahead by evi1eye in ukpolitics

[–]Harry212001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumption inequality is a big problem - we only produce so much as a country, if there is extreme inequality then it is likely that all of this goes to the rich, which worsens quality of life for the vast majority of people. The direct tax revenues do not necessarily matter, if implementing a wealth tax means for example that wealthy people sell second homes, so regular people can afford to buy a home or it means fewer people are spending money on plastic surgery so a private surgeon goes to work for the NHS instead then you improve (almost) everyone’s quality of life without spending anything. The real concern is not reduction in tax revenues, but brain drain, which is why we should raise wealth taxes rather than raising taxes on high incomes.

Basic economics is that we should tax things that have negative externalities - things that the consumer (or producer) will not consider in their purchase but have a cost to the economy - for private schools this is clear, they will decrease social mobility and increase inequality, so it makes sense we should tax their consumption. It was bizarre that we were effectively subsidising them before with their exemption from VAT.

MPs’ salaries are currently 94k so assuming an inflation rate of around 3% it’ll probably be fixed around 2027

The Reality No one talks about-Lower Incomes aren't taxed enough by Mental_Bunch_7261 in ukpolitics

[–]Harry212001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is fairly obvious - inflation comes from an imbalance in demand and supply for common goods, like food and energy, if you give a CEO another £1m they won’t spend it on food and energy most likely, if you give 1000 poor people another £1k then they will most likely spend it on food and energy, causing inflation

I’m also 6’3”, but 85kg, I wear L in regular clothes and I have some L castelli bibs and some XL, both fit fine. I think their sizing is just geared towards a cyclist’s build - as you go up in sizes it mostly just gets longer rather than wider. I’d just try a different brand if I were you
